    Notes:

    Mrs. Katherine Gottschalg passed away at a local hospital this morning. She was born March 3, 1859, at Ontario, Canada, and came to Plymouth, Jefferson county, in 1885. She had been making her home with her son, John, and family on North 10th street since October, 1944. She fell a few weeks ago and broke her hip.

    Mrs. Gottschalg is survived by one son, John of Beatrice; one grandson, Melvin, with the Seventeenth army in Germany; one brother, J. F. Wiegand of Loveland, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Harrifeld of Blue Hill, Nebr., and Mrs. Daniel Wagner of New Hamburg, Canada.

    Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran church at Plymouth with the Rev. A. T. Degner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Harman-Johnson funeral directors in charge.

    MRS. DANIEL WAGNER

    Funeral for Mrs. Margaret Wagner, 83, of 76 Avondale Avenue, South, Kitchener, was conducted Thursday at 2: 30 p.m. at the Ratz-Bechtel funereal home by Rev. W. O. Rathke. Burial was made in Mount Hope cemetery. After a lengthy illness, Mrs. Wagner died early Tuesday, March 1st, at her home. She was born July 2nd, 1876, in Wellesley Township. A member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Waterloo. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, on September 30th, 1948. Mrs. Wagner's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. George Wiegand. Surviving are three sons, Albert, of Detroit; Herman, of Kitchener; Herbert, of Waterloo; eight daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Lilly) Bowan, Mrs. Benjamin (Edna) Grube, Mrs. Carl (Frieda) Schaefer, all of Kitchener; Mrs. Roy (Dora) Colpitts, Miss Alvina Wagner, Mrs. Arthur (Louisa) Thomas, all of Waterloo, Mrs. Wilfred (Alice) Witzel, of Sault Ste. Marie and Mrs. Adam (Christina) Hammer, of Wellesley; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

    Alfred Wagner

    Alfred Wagner of 19834 Midway Ave., Southfield, Mich., died Tuesday at Highland Park Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 68.

    Born in Wellesley Dec. 30, 1900, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wagner. He moved to Southfield 47 years ago.

    Surviving besides his wife, the former Freda Tupff, are a son, Kenneth of Birmingham, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Kaiser of Southfield, Mich.; two brothers, Herman of Kitchener and Herbert of Waterloo; seven sisters, Mrs. Clayton (Lily) Bowman, Mrs. Benjamin (Edna) Grube and Mrs. Carl (Freda) Schaefer, all of Kitchener; Mrs. Roy (Dora) Colpitis of Waterloo; Mrs. Adam (Christine) Hammer of Wellesley; Alvina of St. Jacobs and Mrs. Wilfred (Alice) Witzel of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and four grandchildren.

    Funeral service and burial were held in Detroit on Friday.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred and Herman; four sisters, Lilie, Louise, Elvina and Alice.

    She was a member of the Mary Martha Society and the Wellesley Jolly Oldsters.

    Visitation will be at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 40 Henry St., Wellesley on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Monday morning removal will be made to 1st St. Pauls Lutheran Church for the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Rev. George Reinhart will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    WAGNER, Herbert 1921 - 2012 Passed away peacefully at Leisureworld Caregiving Centre in Elmira on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the age of 91. Predeceased by his wife, Betty (Elizabeth) nee Baetz in 2010; son, Paul Wagner in 1984; parents, Daniel and Margaret Wagner; and ten brothers and sisters. Herb is survived by his sons, Ross Wagner (Dianne) and Richard Wagner (Linda); grandchildren, Dana, Steven, Jeffrey, Robert, Melissa, Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Jessica and Ben Chorney, Charlie and Finn Wagner. Herb is also survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Wojic and brother-in-law, Robert Baetz (Judy). Herb proudly served his country in the Highland Light Infantry from 1941 to 1945. He was a life-long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waterloo where he volunteered many hours of time. He retired from Dominion Tire (later Uniroyal Goodrich) and the Waterloo County Board of Education. In his retirement, Herb enjoyed being a handyman to many friends, family and neighbours. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Herb during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, April 18 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 78 John St. W., Waterloo on Thursday, April 19 from 10-10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Krestick officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall with interment afterwards at Memory Gardens, Breslau.     Passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at his residence Nithview Community, New Hamburg in his 82nd year. Verne was born in Wellesley, Ont. on June 9, 1935, son of the late Adam and Christina (Wagner) Hammer.

    Beloved husband of Joyce (Meyer) Hammer with whom he had celebrated 60 years of marriage.
    Dear father of Cheryl (Jim) Lee and Jeff (Mary).

    Proud grandfather of Tim Lee and Greg Lee (Kayleigh). Loving great-grandfather of Madison and Keaton Lee. Remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sadly missed by his brother Bill (Jane) and sister Doreen Groff. Verne was predeceased by brother-in-law Merle Groff.

    A graduate of Waterloo Lutheran University, Verne continued his education as he pursued a solid career in business, advancing through Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Dominion Electrohome Industries.

    He then joined Collier Macmillan Canada in Galt, Ont. Verne moved to England as Deputy Managing Director of Collier Macmillan International, returning to Canada as President of Collier Macmillan Canada.

    He also lectured for and became President of the Canadian Institute of Certified Administrative Managers. Verne furthered his career by opening his own business, lnterprint Services.

    Always an avid sportsman, retirement allowed him to compete in curling and lawn bowling. Verne was active in his church as well as The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 532, New Hamburg and Retired Business and Professional Men's Club of Kitchener, Waterloo.

    Verne's family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday May 25, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A celebration of Verne's life will take place on Friday May 26, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Reception to follow.
