A second victim Died of pneumonia last Friday

A second death due to influenaza followed by pneumonia occurred last Friday in Elmira when Mr. Daniel Frey, of William Street, passed away. Mr. Frey took ill on Saturday, Jan 24, with what seemed a severe cold. On Sunday he was able to get up and sit in a chair. Later he felt worse and had to go back to bed. His condition, despite medical aid, grew worse and pneumonia developed. On Friday the end came. He was only 39 years, 1 month and 22 days of age, when dissolution came. Mr Frey was well and favourably known in Elmira and district and general regret was expressed over his comparatively sudden death. A loving wife and one daughter Elsie and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David M. Frey of Floradale, are left to mourn his departure. His remains were interred in the Union Cemetery on Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock and following burial, services were held at Zion Evangelical Church, of which he was a faithful member . Rev. Mr. Brown officiated at the funeral and church. To the bereaved widow, the Signet extends the sympathy of the community in her heavy affliction.

    BEAN, Marguerite Betty, (nee Pleon)

Passed away peacefully on October 21, 2019 in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener at the age of 93, following a brief illness. Daughter of the late Michael Pleon (1964) and Elsie (Frey) Pleon (1990). Also predeceased by her brother, Carl Pleon (1993). Betty leaves behind her husband Jack Bean, daughter Judith Bean and son Dr. Michael Bean.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Kitchener, where she attended Suddaby School and Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate. After completing high school, she attended Stratford Normal School (1944-45), where she studied to become a teacher and met fellow student and future husband Jack, whom she married in 1948. Upon graduation, she was hired by the Kitchener Public School Board, where she taught from 1945 to 1959, first as a primary teacher and later as an art supervisor.

Betty was an accomplished painter of landscapes in the Group-of-Seven style and her beautiful paintings adorned the walls of our home as we were growing up. She was also actively involved in the life of Zion Church, Kitchener, where she taught Sunday School for many years. However, above all, she was a devoted wife and mother, a role she cherished and embraced with enthusiasm, always putting the needs of her children first. Her dedication to this role ensured that we became the people we are today.

We are blessed to have had her in our lives all these years and will cherish her positive, optimistic outlook on life forever. We trust that she will continue to watch over and guide us in the years to come.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Betty with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 10 \endash 10:45 am. The funeral service will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 am with the Rev. Doug Kellough officiating. Reception to follow in the Fireside Room.
