Fatal Accident in Galt - An Old Resident Instantly Killed
A very sad accident happened in Galt on Tuesday afternoon last, about 5 o'clock, whereby an old and well known resident, Mr. Isaac Martin, was instantly killed. The deceased has been teaming about the town for many years, and on the afternoon in question went to remove a small load of hay from the lower part of the Central School grounds to the residence of Mr. Thos. Dalgleish. After loading the hay on the wagon, Mr. Martin got on top of it and drove to the gate leading out of the grounds, which was opened for him by Mr. Dalgleish, who also closed it after him, and then turned round and went up the hill towards his own residence, so as to be ready to meet Mr. Martin at his stable. What followed after the unfortunate deceased drove through the gate is merely a matter of conjecture, as no one saw the accident happen; but some parties passing the spot a few minutes afterwards found Mr. Martin lying on the ground insensible, but still breathing. He was instantly raised from the ground, but he barely gasped a dozen times before his spirit took its flight. His team meanwhile had run towards Concession Street, where it was stopped. As we have said before, it is impossible to state for a certainty how the accident happened, but there being quite a sharp descent from the sidewalk which he had to cross after passing through the gate to the street it is conjectured that he must have overbalanced himself and fallen headlong form the top of the load to the ground, a distance of some six or seven feet. Upon an after examination by Dr. Vardon, it was found that his neck had been broken by the fall. The remains were at once removed to his late residence, Market Street, where they were afterwards viewed by a Jury empanelled by Dr. Philip to inquire into the cause of death. After hearing the evidence, the Jury returned a verdict of "accidental death."
The deceased had been a resident of Galt and neighborhood for many years, and was formerly a resident of the Township of Waterloo, where he carried on farming. He was for some years the proprietor of "Martin's Mill," - now carried on by Mr. Austin - on Mill creek, about three miles from this town. This venture not proving successful, however, he moved into the town, where he has since resided. He was an industrious, honest man, and his fearfully sudden death has cast quite a gloom over his large circle of friends and acquaintances.

MARTIN (Galt, Ont.) March 1 - John W. Martin a prominent farmer of Waterloo township, aged about 70, died very suddenly in Galt this afternoon. Deceased, who has been running the Speedsville woollen mills, which belong to the estate of his son, the late Samuel C. Martin, who, strange to say, died very suddenly about a year ago under similar circumstances, was in Galt this morning, delivering a load of yarn to Newlands & Co., and drove home, but returned to Galt in the afternoon to attend a meeting of North Dumfries, and South Waterloo Insurance co., of which he had been a director for several years. While walking on the street he apparently fainted and was carried into Dr. Varden's office nearby where he died almost immediately.

HESPELER NEWS
WAS BURIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON
The funeral of the late Mary Martin, widow of the late James Sault. took place Sunday afternoon and was one of the largest funerals that has taken place in Hespeler for some time. The large residence could not hold all the relatives and friends and a big lineup of people were along side and in front of the house. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Rev. W. H. Harvey conducted the impressive services at the home and the graveside. It was a motor funeral and was the largest that has been in Hespeler. The pallbearers were all friends of the family and were as as follows: Messrs. J. D. Ramsay, L. Grill, W. R Kris ex. M.P.P., Henry Sachs, J. R. Phin and John Morris.

GEORGE MARTIN
PRESTON, Sept. 13— One of Preston's best known citizens, George Martin, market clerk, died here Saturday afternoon. He was in his 77th year. The late Mr. Martin was born on a farm on the Kitchener-Preston highway and lived in Waterloo Township where he farmed from1898 until 1923 when he came to Preston to live semi-retired. He served for years as market clerk but his illness a year ago forced him to relinquish the post. A staunch Presbyterian, the deceased belonged to Knox church here. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge in Preston. His wife predeceased him two years ago. There survive two sons, Elton of Galt and Samuel of Preston and one daughter, Miss Carrie Martin: at home three grandchildren servive. Funeral servives were held from the home on Duke street, Sunday afternoon. Interment following in Preston Cemetery, Walter Paterson officiated.
