    Mrs. Henry Lingner

    Mrs. Henry Lingner, an aged and respected resident of Elmira, passed away at her home on Park Avenue on Sunday morning after an illness of about two weeks.

    Mrs. Lingner, who was in her 81st year, was born in the Township of Woolwich, being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oppertyshauser and she had lived in this community all her life. In the year 1878 she was united in marriage to Henry Lingner who predeceased her some ten years ago.

    The surviving members of the family are three daughters, Mary Ann, Mrs. P. Campbell of Kitchener; Frieda, Mrs. G. Campbell of Maryborough; Eda, Mrs. W. Seegmiller of Bright; and on son, Emil, at home. Two brothers, John Oppertshauser of Kitchener and eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.

    The funeral, which was held on Wednesday afternoon from her late home took place to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where Rev. F. Malinsky conducted the funeral service. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. Milton Oppertshauser, George Seegmiller, Ezra Seegmiller, Walter Campbell, Oscar Campbell and Arnold Campbell. Interment was made in the Elmira Cemetery.

    Henry S. Oppertshauser, 75, died at his residence, 32 Pequegnat Avenue, early today. He was born in Woolwich Township, on May 9, 1866, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oppertshauser. In 1890, in New Hamburg, he married Elizabeth Schaefer who predeceased him one year ago.

    Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Robert Bartley, Mrs. J. Draves and Mrs. C. Yager of Kitchener, Mrs. Henry Brox of Detroit, and Mrs. John Brox of Sunnyside. Twenty-five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral service will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. Yager, 63 Bingeman Street, on Sunday at 2 pm to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church for service at 2: 30 pm. Interment will be made in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Dr. John Schmieder will officiate. Remains are resting at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home until Saturday at 6 pm when they will be removed to the residence of his daughter.

    Mr. John Oppertshauser, a well-known and respected citizen of Elmira, passed away at his home on William Street on Tuesday morning of this week in his 69th year. Mr. Oppertshauser had been in ill-health for a couple of years. Last summer he was obliged to go to the hospital in Kitchener for treatment, where he had to undergo a serious major operation. He spend five weeks there and returning home, seemingly felt considerably better for a time, but his condition again grew worse and the end came on Tuesday.

    The late Mr. Oppertshauser was born in Woolwich Township, being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oppertshauser. When a young man he went to Sebewaing, Mich., where about 38 years ago he was married to Marie Armbruster. He resided in Sebewaing in all about seven years, and five years after his marriage he returned, taking up farming in North Woolwich. After twelve years on the farm he came to Elmira and has been resident here for 21 years. He was a member of St. James' Lutheran church.

    Besides his widow the late Mr. Oppertshauser leaves a family of two daughters and two sons, namely: Mrs. Cecil Heipel, of Elmira and Mrs. Charles Miller of Kitchener, and Messrs. M. J. and Walter at home. One brother, Mr. Henry Oppertshauser, of Kitchener, also survives.

    The remains will be resting at the Dreisinger Funeral Home until Thursday evening when they will be taken to his late home on William street and the funeral takes place from there on Friday afternoon at two o'clock to St. James' Lutheran church for service by the pastor, Rev. L. H. Kalbfleisch. Interment will take place afterwards in the Elmira Cemetery.

    She was married in 1910, and her husband died in 1942.

Mrs. Roy (Marie) Freiburger, Mrs. Ross (Hazel) McCormick, George (Myrtle) Cooper and Mrs. Ernest (Olive) King all of Kitchener; four sisters. Mrs. Henry (Dora) Brox of Grand Ledge, Mich., Mrs. John (May) Brox of Preston. Mrs. Jack (Selina) Draves and Mrs. Chris (Alvin) Yaeger of Kitchener; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One daughter and one sister predeceased her.

    The body will be at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Saturday when removal will be made to St. Matthew's Church Chapel for service at 2 p.m. Rev. F. W. Zinck will officiate and burial will be In St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery

    BRUBACHER, Rose (Mrs. Clare J.) -Peacefully, on Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at Chateau Gardens, Elmira, Rose (Campbell) Brubacher, in her 97th year, of Elmira. Beloved wife of the late Clare J. Brubacher (1977). Dear mother of Ralph and Freda Brubacher of Elmira, Margaret and Edwin Layton of Minneapolis, Minn.; loving grand-mother of Peter, Paul and James Brubacher and David Kirby; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Rose was born in Woolwich township July 26, 1902. She was the last surviving member of her family having been predeceased by her parents and six brothers and one sister. She was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira and the E.L.W. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Sunday at noon transfer will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira for funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Wendell Grahlman officiating followed by interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.

    HENRY CAMPBELL DIED OF INJURIES

    HIS DEATH HEAVY AFFLICTION

    TO PARENTS In last week's issue of the Signet the serious injuries accidently sus- tained on Wednesday, Nov. 24 by Henry C. M. Campbell, of Floradale were reported.

    He remained unconscious from the happening of the accident until Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He then recovered consciousness and recognized the members of his family but died at 4.45 o'clock that day.

    On Wednesday night he suffered a great deal of pain and it took three. persons to keep him in bed. His death was due to the injuries received when he struck his head and fell. He expressed his desire and readiness to die.

    His funeral was on Tuesday afternoon held from the Floradale Luth- eran Church, where services were held, after which burial took place. in the Elmira Union Cemetery. Rev. A. Gallmeier officiated.

    Henry was aged 17 years, 8 months and 2 days and was a good industrious young man. He was the oldest son of the family and a great help to his parents.

    This fatality is all the harder to bear since it followed two months ofter the death of a four-year old brother who died on Sept. 28. The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Camp- bell, and family, are receiving the condolence of a host of friends in both communities over this second and heavier affliction.

    Ownig to the death of their son it is probably that Mr. Campbell and family will remove to Elmira.

    Predeceased by his parents, John and Selena Draves and one brother, Harry Draves (February. 1990).

    Visitation at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, 51 Benton at Church St., Kitchener, 2-4 and 7.9 p.m. Tuesday.     ST. CLAIR A light has gone out among us with the passing of Florence Elizabeth (Brox) Brenner, who died February 2, 2006 in St. Clair, Michigan with her children by her bedside. She was just turning 87. Florence was a great mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We will miss her. She was born on March 9, 1919 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada to a Mennonite couple Henry Brox and Dorothy Oppertshauser Brox. Her Mennonite background would serve her well during the Depression of 1929 and years of gardening, canning and self sufficiency. Named after Florence Nightingale, the British nurse who dedicated her life to caring for the sick and war wounded, Florence was always ready and willing to help those in need. In 1928, nine year old Florence and her family moved to Melvindale, Michigan when her father, a skilled cast iron worker accepted a job to help build Model T cars at the Ford Motor Company. They lived with a distant aunt until her father purchased a lot and built a house about three miles from his work. At the time, she could only speak German. Florence attended Daesher Elementary School in Melvindale where she learned English and settled in as a new immigrant American. She attended and graduated from Melvindale High School in 1937. After graduation, she worked for several attorneys in the Penobscot Building in Detroit. When she became overly stressed worrying about the mothers and children in divorce proceedings, her father made her quit this $10 a week job. She went to work in a local C.J. Smith grocery store where they shopped. Florence loved this job, and her math skills and love for people made her a popular employee. Here she earned $12 a week. In 1939 she met her future husband, Chuck Brenner. They married in February 1940 and moved to Detroit. They were together for 58 years until Chuck died in 1998. During their long marriage, they gave the world seven children who in turn produced over two dozen grandchildren and over two dozen great-grandchildren. Chuck, Florence and their kids moved to St. Clair County in 1953. After a year renting a farmhouse at the corner of Division (now Fred Moore Hwy) and Mitchell (now Wadhams Road), they bought 40 acres on Trumble Road and built a house. In 1975, they bought another 40 acres on Allington Road and moved from Trumble Road to a new custom-built house. Here they lived until 1998. During her life, Florence worked as a secretary, grocery store clerk, school bus driver, school cafeteria employee, grocery store manager, Girl Scout leader and even mailing clerk at the St. Clair County Press. Florence loved tennis, gardening, crocheting, quilting, cooking, baking and children of all ages. She is most remembered as a loving and wonderful mother and grandmother. Of over 200 photos that were displayed at her life graduation celebration at Immanuel Lutheran Church following burial, many photos showed her holding babies and young children. She was born as WWI was ending, and she lived through WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf War. During her 87 years, she saw the U.S. Postage Stamp go from .01 to .39 and income taxes go from 2% to their present high level. She lived during the administrations of 16 presidents and saw the introduction of hundreds of new innovations, including television, the copy machine, instant cameras, digital cameras, computers, fluorescent lights and the automatic dishwasher. She is survived by seven children, Dr. Rev. Donald (Judy) Brenner of San Diego, Retired Lieutenant Commander, Robert (Carol) Brenner of San Diego, Jack Brenner of Wadhams, Tom (Janyce) Brenner of St. Clair, Susan (Joe) Hohman of Smiths Creek, Richard (Tracy) Brenner of St. Clair and Barbara (John) Jowett of St. Clair; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Hohman. Florence will be fondly remembered as a person who cared. She was honest, she was devoted to her family, and she was a loving member of our community. A devout Christian she is now enjoying eternal life with her husband, Chuck. We are all better off because she lived among us. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair and her remains will be buried next to Chuck at Hillside Cemetery. Visiting hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
