    Swartzentruber, Sarah, daughter of Jacob M. and Marie (Ruby) Bender, was born in South Easthope, Ont., Jan. 15, 1890; died at Stratford, Ont., Dec. 22, 1972; aged 82 y. 11 m. 7 d. On Oct 19, 1911, she was married to Joel Swartzentruber, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Elroy, Vernon, and Willis) and 2 daughters (Nelda - Mrs. Lavern Lichti and Katie - Mrs. Wilmer Wagler). One daughter (Selma - Mrs. Milt Litwiller) preceded her in death. She was a member of the Cassel Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at the East Zorra Church on Dec. 24, in charge of Vernon Zehr, Henry Yantzi, and Newton Gingerich; interment in the East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery.

    \emdash At the RECU of Stratford General Hospital, Stratford, Ont., on Dec. 22, 1972, Sarah Bender, Route 1, New Hamburg, age 82 years, beloved wife of Joel Schwartzentruber; dear mother of Elroy, Hickson; Vernon, Sebawing, Mich.; Willis, Route 1, Tavistock; Mrs. Laverne (Nelda) Lichti and Mrs. Wilmer (Katie) Wagler, both of Route 1, New Hamburg; also survived by 32 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; last surviving member of her family; predeceased by one daughter, four brothers and five sisters.
    Friends may call at the Robert Krug Funeral Home, Tavistock, until noon of Sunday, Dec. 24, 1972, when transfer will be made to East Zorra Mennonite Church, 16th line, for a memorial service at 3:00. Interment in church cemetery. Rev. Vernon Zehr will officiate.

    Sarah married Rev. Joel Schwartzentruber 19 Oct 1911. Joel (son of Joel R.     Litwiller, Selma Schwartzentruber, was born at East Zorra, Ont., Nov. 5, 1917; died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Mar. 17, 1969; aged 51 y. 4 m. 12 d. She was married to Walter Bender, who died in 1945. On Apr. 7, 1954, she was married to Milton Litwiller, who survives. Also surviving are 5 sons (Wray and Paul Bender, Newton, Douglas, and Robert Litwiller), 5 daughters (Grace Bender, Lorna - Mrs. James Brubacher, Carole - Mrs. Clare Maltby, Alice - Mrs. Alex Kinsie, and Wanda Litwiller), 3 brothers (Elroy, Willis, and Vernon), and 2 sisters (Nelda - Mrs. Laverne Lichty and Katie - Mrs. Wilmer Wagler). She was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, where funeral services were held Mar. 20, with Rufus Jutzi officiating.

    TAVISTOCK-Mrs. Milton Litwiller of Tavistock, died Monday night at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. She was 51.
    She was the former Selma Schwartzentruber, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Schwartzentruber of Tavistock, and was born in East Zorra, Nov. 5, 1917, Mrs. Litwiller was a member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, and was vice-president of the Women's Missionary Service Auxiliary of the church.

    Surviving besides her second husband to whom she was married April 7, 1954, and her parents, are five sons, Wray and Paul Bender and Newton, Douglas and Robert Litwiller, all of Kitchener; five daughters, Grace Bender, Toronto, Mrs. James (Lorna) Brubacher, and Mrs. Clare (Carole) Maltby, both of Kitchener, Mrs. Alex (Alice) Kinsie, Breslau, and Wanda Litwiller, at home. Also surviving are three brothers, Elroy and Willis Schwartzentruber, both of East Zorra Township, and Vernon Schwartzentruber, Sebewing, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Laverne (Nelda) Lichti, North Easthope Township, and Mrs. Wilmer (Katie) Wagler, South Easthope Township, and 17 grandchildren.

    Her first husband, Walter Bender, predeceased her in 1945. The body will be at the Robert Krug Funeral Home, Tavistock, until 10 a.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be conducted at 2: 30 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, Kitchener. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Rufus Jutzi will officiate.

    Donations to the Women's Missionary Service Auxiliary will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

    Mrs. Milton Litwiller

    Mrs. Milton Litwiller of Tavistock died on Monday of last week at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, at the age of 51.

    She was the former Selma Schwartzentruber, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Schwartzentruber of Tavistock, and was born in East Zorra, Nov. 5, 1917. Mrs. Litwiller was a member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, and was vice-president of the Women's Missionary Service Auxiliary of the church.

    LICHTI, Nelda Nelda Lichti, 87, of Tavistock passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011. She was born on December 8, 1923 in East Zorra Township, Oxford County, a daughter of the late Joel and Sarah (Bender) Schwartzentruber. On November 17, 1943 she married Laverne Lichti, who predeceased her on January 12, 1993. Nelda is survived by her six children, fifteen grandchildren and two great-grand-children; John and Norma Lichti of New Hamburg, Chris (Kim) Lichti, Abby, Garrett, and Sarah Lichti; Dan Lichti of Kitchener and Deena Mandell, Andrew Lichti and Rebecca Lichti; Roy and Mardi Lichti, of New Hamburg, Tim (Annie) Lichti, Derrick Lichti, Alyssa (Dave) Kerfoot; Ruth and Dwight Steinman of Tavistock, Maria Steinman, Bethany Steinman, Catherine Steinman; Ruby and Miguel Barrenengoa of Argentina, Pablo Barrenengoa, Emily Barrenengoa, Amanda Barrenengoa; Diane Lichti and Bruce Bechtel of New Hamburg, Craig Bechtel, Evan Bechtel. Nelda was also the Canadian mother and grandmother of Roman and Emilia Orlinski, and Monika of Wellesley. She was predeceased by her great-grandson Connor Lichti, May, 2002. Nelda is survived by her brother-in-law Wilmer Wagler and sister-in-law Hilda Swartzentruber. She was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters Vernon Swartzentruber (Elizabeth); Elroy Swartzentruber (Annie Mae), (Verda); Selma Bender Litwiller (Walter), (Milton); Katie Wagler; Willis Swartzentruber. Also survived by her Lichti brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Elmer and Annie Roth, Magdalena Wagler, Louis and Loretta Lichti, Floyd and Catherine Steinman. She was predeceased by her Lichti brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Allen and Barbara Bast, David and Fannie Lichti, Nicholas and Verna Lichti, Albert and Kaye Lichti, Julius and Floretta Lichti, Willis and Laura Lichti, Emerson Wagler. Nelda and Laverne farmed together in North Easthope Township for over 35 years. Hidden Acres Camp and Retreat Centre grew out of a corner of their farm, and both Nelda and Laverne, along with many good friends and peers contributed countless hours of hard work to the building and development of the camp, now almost 50 years old. Nelda was a hard worker and good organizer, and served in many ways and many places. She offered her talents at various times to Rockway Mennonite High School, Nithview Auxiliary, MCC New Hamburg Thrift Store, MCC Relief Sale. Nelda and Laverne served several times with Mennonite Disaster Service in short term work assignments following natural disasters in Canada and the United States. She was a member and active participant of Tavistock Mennonite Church. Nelda was an avid gardener, loved flowers and never missed an opportunity to share her appreciation of a new bud or healthy plant with others. Although she kept herself busy, she always made time for a visit. She appreciated all of her many nieces and nephews, loved to travel, and stay connected with her many friends and relatives. Relatives and friends will be received at the Tavistock Mennonite Church on Monday, October 10th, 7-9 p.m., and Tuesday, October 11th, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be on Wednesday, October 12th at 10 a.m. at East Zorra Mennonite Church Cemetery on 16th Line, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Tavistock Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hidden Acres Endowment Fund or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
