Litwiller.-Maria Litwiller, nee Miller, was born in Wilmot, Ont., Dec. 13, 1851; died Aug. 30, 1921; aged 69 y. 8 m. 17 d. Sept. 27, 1870, she was married to Pre. Chr. Litwiller. To this union were born 9 children-4 sons and 5 daughters. One son and 1 daughter preceded her. She leaves husband, 7 children, 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, 1 brother, 3 sisters, and many friends and acquaintances. Mother was sick for nearly two years when the last 3 months she suffered much pain but was very patient during her afflictions. She united with the A. M. Church in her teens and remained faithful to the end. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Bro. P. Boshart and at the church by Bros. C. Z. Yoder in English and Jonas Snyder in German. Texts, Isa. 35: 8-10; Phil. 1: 21. Buried in adjoining cemetery.

BADEN. Oct 19 - Ninety-year-old David B. Roth of this village died yesterday at 10: 30 a.m. at her home after an illness of 18 days.

Born in 1854 in Baden, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Miller, she attended the Steinman Amish Mennonite Church. Her husband predeceased her six years ago.

Surviving are three sons, Noah Miller Roth of Baden, Dan Miller Roth of Preston and Sam Miller Roth of Baden; two daughters, Mrs. Sam (Mary) Ruby of Kitchener and Mrs. Peter (Lydia) Steinman of Baden; a brother, Christian R. Miller of Petersburg, Florida, 38 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One son, Moses Miller Roth and a daughter, Mrs. Jacob (Katie) Jutzi, predeceased Mrs. Roth.

The funeral will be held publicly on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1: 30 p.m. from the residence. Church services held at the Steinman Amish Mennonite Church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Bishop Moses Jantzi will officiate.

Mrs. John B. O. Schmidt

An esteemed and beloved resident of Baden passed away at her home in Baden last Thursday, March 19th, in the person of Mrs. John B. O. Schmidt, aged 80 years. She had been in failing health for several years.

The late Mrs. Schmidt, whose maiden name was Catharine Miller, was born at Baden and spent her whole life in that community. For the past twenty years she resided on the farm birthplace of the late Sir Adam Beck.

The deceased was a devout adherent of the Amish-Mennonite faith and through her kindly and charitable disposition made a wide circle of friends who regret her passing.

She was married at Baden on March 13, 1883, to John B. O. Schmidt, who predeceased her in June, 1940. She leaves in bereavement three sons, Samuel, on a farm west of Baden, Noah and Aaron, Baden, three daughters, Mrs. Moses Steinman, Baden, Lydia, at home, and Elmina, Kitchener, besides one brother, Christian Miller, St. Petersburg, Florida, and one sister, Mrs. David Roth, Baden.

The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from her late home to Steinman's A.-M. Church for service, followed by interment in the Steinman Cemetery. A very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Peter Nafziger of St. Agatha, assisted by Elder Elmer Schwartzentruber.

Litwiller. - Jacob Litwiller was born near St. Agatha, Ont., March 7, 1874; aged 54 y. 2 m. 26 d. On Sept. 22, 1896 he was married to Rachael Jantzi. This union was blessed with 7 children. He leaves his widow, an adopted daughter (Eleanor), Nelson and Edna (Mrs. A. Swartzendruber - missionaries in South America), Reuben, Milton, Ella, Delton, 7 grandchildren, 2 brothers, and four sisters. He was confined to his bed for about five weeks. Death was due to complications, but his main sickness was bacterial endacarditis. During his illness he spent many wakeful nights, meditating with God, and during unconscious hours his talk was always of spiritual matters. He was a lover of song, and during his days of sickness he asked all those present to sing for him; leaving a blessed assurance of the eternal hope. In his younger years he united with the Amish Mennonite Church of which he was a faithful member until death. Father's place in our home can never be filled. His kind disposition commanded all to love him and the loss of his counsel is heavy to us. Funeral services June 6 at the house by Christian Gascho, and at the A. M. Church near St. Agatha, by C. F. Derstine, Oscar Burkholder, and Peter Nofziger. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Jacob Litwiller of St. Agatha passed away Saturday at his home, In his 54th year after an illness of several months' duration. He was a prominent farmer for many years and a member of the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church. The late Mr. Litwiller had spent his entire life on his farm near the village. He Is survived by his wife, three daughters, Ella and Eleanor at home, Edna (Mrs. Amos Schwartzentruber) a missionary in South America, and five sons, Nelson, a missionary in South America, Milton or St. Agatha, Reuben of Wind sorf and Delton and Orie at home.

The funeral was held on Wednes day afternoon from his residence to the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Litwiller. - Moses Litwiller, son of Christian and Maria Litwiller, was born in St. Agatha, Waterloo Co., Ont., July 1, 1876 and died in Petersburg, Ont., Sept. 24, 1916; aged 40 y. 2 m. 24 d. He was married to Lydia Brenneman about 15 years ago. To this union were born 6 sons.
Bro. Litwiller accepted Christ when a young man and united with the A. M. Church, and was faithful until the end. He was sick only three weeks. First he had enlargement of the heart, after which he got pneumonia. We thought he was getting better, then gangrene set in.
Bro. Litwiller expressed hope in the home beyond and desired the services of the Word and prayer and the singing during his days of sufferings. We can hardly understand why he was taken. We miss him so much. We have lost him. Heaven has found him, and we know that everything God does is well done. May we all take comfort in the thought that he now rests in the Savior.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, 6 sons, parents, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters; also many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the St. Agatha A. M. Church on Tuesday, Sept. 25, conducted by Bros. Chr. Kropf of Tavistock and Eli Frey of Archbold, O. Text, II Tim. 4: 7, 8, and Isa. 38, last clause of first verse. "Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live." Interment in cemetery near by.

MRS. MOSES O. JANTZI

Mrs. Moses O. Jantzi, 89, of New Hamburg, formerly of Baden, died January 24 at the Bender home in New Hamburg after a lengthy illness.

The former Annie Litwiller, she was born Aug. 4, 1878 at St. Agatha, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Litwiller and was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church.

She was predeceased by her husband Bishop Moses O. Jantzi in 1965.

Surviving are one son, Clinton of Kitchener; one daughter, Mrs. William (Beatrice) Lichty, Baden; 11 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren. One daughter predeceased her in 1967.

The service was held Saturday afternoon at Steinman Mennonite Church. Rev. Albert Zehr officiated, assisted by Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber. Temporary entombment was made at Graff Chapel, Riverside Cemetery, Nov Hamburg. Burial will take place later in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Musselman, 59 William St. West, Waterloo, died yesterday at the K-W Hospital. She was 70. A native of St. Agatha, she was a member of Erb St. Mennonite Church, Waterloo. In 1920, she married Jacob Musselman, who predeceased her in 1945. Surviving are three sons, Leslie and Edgar of Preston and Eldon of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Ira (Ermina) Bauman of Elmira and Mrs. Cleason (Elsie) Martin of Waterloo; two brothers, Samuel Litwiller, London and David Litwiller of Preston; one sister, Mrs. Moses O. Jantzi, Baden; 11 grandchildren and eight grandchildren. The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Erb St. Mennonite Church with Rev. J. B. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery.

Salzmann. - Sister Veronica Litwiller, beloved wife of Joseph Salzmann, was born July 13, 1885; died of heart trouble May 25, 1920; aged 34 y. 10 m. 13 d. She was united in matrimony to Joseph Salzmann Oct. 17, 1908, which union was blessed with 5 children (Gladys, Sanford, Florin, and Clifford) - one died in infancy. She leaves husband, 4 children, parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and many relatives and friends. She united with the A. M. Church when in her teens and remained faithful to the end. We can hardly realize that she is gone, but we believe that our loss is her eternal gain. The community feels that they have lost the earthly presence of a sister and friend and that the number was enlarged in heaven. Two days before her death she called her daughter to her bed side and selected the hymns for her funeral. Funeral services were held at the A. M. Church near St. Agatha, conducted by Peter Boshart and Moses Shantz, using for the text, "Set thine house in order for thou shall die and not live". May God comfort the bereaved ones.

The sad death occurred at her home in St. Agatha on Tuesday of Veronica Litwiller, beloved wife of Mr. Joseph Salzman, in her 34^th year She had been ill only a day with heart trouble and her untimely death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon to the Amish Mennonite church pod cemetery at St. Agatha.

David Litwiller of Preston, a public school teacher for 40 years and well-known throughout this district, died Sunday at Hamilton General Hospital following an illness of four months. He was 64. Mr. Litwiller was born March 4, 1895, in Wilmot Township near St. Agatha, a son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Christian Litwiller. He taught at Perry's Corner, New Dundee, and for 24 years was principal of Pine Grove Public School near Preston. He retired about two years ago. He was a member of Alma Street United Brethren Church, Kitchener.

Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie Hilborn whom he married in 1927 at New Dundee; one son, David of Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs. Henry (June) Buchholz of Rochester, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Moses Jantzi of Baden and four grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters predeceased him. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with service at the Alma Street United Brethren Church, Kitchener, Rev. Ward Woolner officiated and burial was in Woodland Cemetery.

Moses M. Roth died after a two weeks' illness on Tuesday at his home near St. Agatha at the age of 48 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David B. Roth and lived in Wilmot all his life. He had a large circle of friends who were shocked at his death. He was married to Katie Bast, who survives him with a family of eight. He also leaves his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister namely, Noah M. Roth, East Zorra, Dan, near St. Agatha, Samuel M., of Baden, and Mrs. Peter Steinman, near New Hamburg. The funeral will take place from his late home this forenoon to the St. Agatha Amish-Mennonite Church of which he was a faithful member. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery.

Novelty has been the keynote of Noah M. Steinman's life. When he went into business in Baden in 1905, he didn't stick merely to one line of goods. He sold groceries, stock feed and lime and cement. Because there was a demand for the service, three years later Mr. Steinman became a licenced undertaker and embalmer. This probably makes him the oldest mortician in point of service in the county. [Steinman funeral business records date from 1904.] This week the link with the undertaking business was broken when he sold the good will to the Twin City firm of Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Service. At 77, though, he needs something to keep him active so he has retained the furniture store and novelty shop which he opens every day. Last July he broke his ankle and although that has incapacitated Mr. Steinman somewhat, it hasn't kept him away from the store.

Besides an active business life Mr. Steinman always had enough time and public spirit to engage actively in Baden public life. Gideon Bechtel, father of Orton Bechtel, one of the partners in the Ratz-Bechtel firm [Ratz-Bechtel is in Kitchener] was one of the founders of the Wilmot Municipal Telephone System. When the late Mr. Bechtel gave up his directorship of the telephone systems, Mr. Steinman was elected in his place. During his tenure the company progressed, adding a new exchange building and switching board. Mr. Steinman has not been on the directorate for some years now. It is significant that his [telephone?] number is one.

The name Steinman is synonymous with firefighting in Baden. He was a fireman when the firefighting apparatus was an old hand pumper and reel. He was given a commission by the village trustees to organize a brigade to man the first pumper bought by the village. He forgets the year. However, it was a well-turned-out brigade of volunteers with natty uniforms which they bought themselves. And speaking of buying things, the brigade members contributed half the money to buy the second pumper some years later '96 or else the pumper wouldn't have been bought. Today, the need of good firefighting apparatus is seen, and a large water-carrying machine is housed in the fire hall. Mr. Steinman was born on the farm now owned by William Miller on the Baden outskirts. It was then owned by his grandfather, Chris Miller. Old Chris Miller was a hardy old character. His leg became caught in a threshing machine and he was taken to Tavistock where a doctor later proved a quack '96 cut it off with no anesthetic. Later, he continued work with an artificial leg. The leg is one of the large number of curios and antiques Mr. Steinman has in various places around the Baden store.

Next to the Miller farm lived one of Baden's most illustrious sons, Adam Beck. Sir Adam was one of those who carried on the battle to obtain hydro for Ontario as a public utility. Mrs. Steinman recalls that although Beck reached the heights of the civil service and political work he never forgot Baden. More than once he returned to the village for a good old-fashioned sauerkraut supper. Whenever anyone wants to track down any of Baden's history, he heads for Mr. Steinman's place. He has minute books and pictures of historical interest in a couple of large scrap books. One of the books is prefaced by the sage advice: "The only thing costly about good farm implements is trying to get along without them." He has trouble hanging onto some of the valuable curios. One things that disappeared was a model steam engine made by Adam Beck. Another was the first survey map of Baden and Wilmot made in 1856 by Adam's father Jacob. It was taken by Ontario hydro men and not returned. BADEN A former funeral director and proprietor of a furniture store for more than 50 years in Baden, Noah M. Steinman, 83, died suddenly Monday at the home of his son, Delton Steinman. A resident of Baden all his life, he was an honorary member of the Baden fire department and was a member for many years of the Wilmot Municipal Telephone System Commission. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Steinman, he was born June 20, 1880, in Baden. He was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church here. His wife, the former Magdelena Gascho to whom he was married Jan. 25, 1906, in Wilmot Township, died in 1957. He is survived by two sons, Delton and Arthur, both of Baden two brothers, Samuel of New Hamburg and Aaron of Kitchener ,one sister, Mrs. Mary Jantzi of New Hamburg, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, until 10 a.m. Thursday when it will be removed to Steinman Mennonite Church, Baden, where Rev. Orland Gingerich and Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber will conduct a service at 3 p.m. Friends may pay respects at the church until the time of the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

Samuel Steinman. 299 Waterloo St., died Friday night at the home of his daughter in Kitchener. He was 86.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Steinman he farmed in New Hamburg all his life. He was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church, the New Hamburg Turf Club, the Canadian Percheron Society, the New Hamburg public school board, and the Wilmot Agricultural Society.

Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Gascho whom he married March 26, 1907, one son. Lloyd of New Hamburg: one daughter. Mrs. Edward (Verna) Kipfcr and a brother. Aaron Steinman. both of Kitchener: a sister. Mrs. Mary Jantzi of New Hamburg, and two grandsons. He was predeceased by one brother and a sister

The body was at the Bruce J Omand Funeral Home. New Hamburg until noon Monday when removal was made to the Steinman Mennonite Church for service at 3 p. m. Rev. Elmer Swartzentruber officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Funeral service tor Aaron Steinman, 1 King St. W., who died Saturday, was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home. .

Mr. Steinman, 85, was born March 31, 1884 in New Hamburg, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Steinman. He was formerly of Vancouver and Prince Albert, Sask., and came to Kitchener six years ago. He was an instructor for 30 years at the Federal Penitentiary, Prince Albert, retiring in 1945 and was a member of the Anglican Church.

His wife, the former Mabel E. Freeland predeceased him in 1963. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Hilda Dodge, Toronto; one sister, Mrs. Mary Jantzie, New Hamburg and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Schmitt. - Abraham Schmitt of Baden, Ont., was born March 16, 1889. He was married to Clara Barbara Snyder March 5, 1919. This union was blessed with 1 son (Harold). For several months his health was failing. He suffered intensely with a complication of diseases but bore it all with Christian fortitude. "My grace is sufficient for thee," was verified in his sickness and suffering. Although his body was racked with pain he could still raise his voice in song and often requested his family and friends to sing for him. On Sept. 1 he peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, aged 45 y. 5 m. 15 d. He leaves his deeply bereaved companion and Harold, parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and many other relatives and friends. May God comfort and sustain the bereaved family. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 4 by Orphen Wismer, Moses Yantzi, and Manasseh Hallman at the Schantz Church near Baden. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

Miller, who survives him, and the late Mrs. Veronica Miller, at Baden on Dec. 27, 1887. A farmer and highway patrolman, he attended Steinman's Amish Mennonite Church, Baden. Surviving, in addition to his wife, the former Lydia Bast, and his father, are five sons, Grant of Baden, Earl of Ottawa, Harry of New Hamburg, Bernel of Nova Scotia, and Laverne at home, and four daughters, Mrs. Delton (Beatrice) Snyder of near-Baden, Mrs. Clayton (Mabel) Binkle, and Mrs. Bertram (Pearl) Diebel of Kitchener, and Mrs. Howard (Verna) Hesse of New Hamburg. One daughter predeceased him three years ago. At Norene's request, she will rest in peace at the Williamsburg Scattering Garden, close to her birthplace in Shingletown, Wilmot Township.

She took joy in serving as a Cub and Scout Mother in the Scout Auxiliary 24th and 19th divisions, Smithson School and Home, Teacher's Aid with pre-school deaf children and twenty years with the Sunnyside Home Auxiliary. She made friends as a lecturer with Counterweight and as a member of the Rockway Senior Centre Quilting Club. MaryBelle's greatest joy was serving her Lord and Saviour. She loved the children she taught in Sunday School and for forty years as a teacher during the summer Vacation Bible School. She served Holy Cross Lutheran Church as a member of the Women's Guild, L.W.M.L. Women's Retreats and many committees throughout the years. Wm. Iutzi Second Victim Of Auto Crash

William Iutzi of Baden died in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, On Tuesday night from injuries received in an auto accident near Elginfield on Sunday afternoon, September 12^th. His wife was instantly killed in the crash.

The accident occurred when the car in which they were passengers, and driven by Wm. Steckley of Milverton, collided with a car driven by Alfred Christiansen of Battle Creek, Michigan, and crashed into a tree.

Mr. Iutzi received severe internal injuries and had been in a critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, since the accident. Doctor's had hoped to perform an operation, but Mr. Iutzi did not rally sufficiently.

The late Mr. Iutzi was a prominent young farmer and was well known as a breeder of Holstein cattle and was active in agricultural and livestock organizations. He was a member of the Steinman Amish-Mennonite Church.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Z. Iutzi of Baden and was 43 years of age. Surviving him are two young daughters, Erma and Merle, his parents, two brothers, Wilfred at home and Roy, New Hamburg, three sisters, Mrs. Edna Herner and Mrs. Stanley Schmidt of Baden and Mrs. Eldon Gingerich, R.R. 2, New Hamburg.

The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, October 1, with private service at the house at 2: 00 o'clock, followed by public service at the Steinman A.-M. Church at 2: 45 o'clock, and interment in the adjoining cemetery.

MRS. STANLEY SCHMIDT

Mrs. Stanley Schmidt, ol New Hamburg, formerly of Baden, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, at the age of 56.

The former Elda Iutzi, she was born Aug. 13, 1911, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Iutzi. She was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church.

Her husband and daughter, Shirley, died in 1966. She was also predeceased by a brother.

Surviving are a daughter. Mrs. Joseph (Fern) Martin of New Hamburg: two brothers. Wilfred and Roy both of Baden: two sisters. Mrs. Eldon (Eva) Gingerich of New Hamburg and Mrs Edna Herner of Baden and three grandchildren.

The Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home was in charge, and the service was held Sunday afternoon at Steinman Mennonite Church. Rev. Albert Zehr and Elmer Swartzentruber officiated and burial was in the church cemetery

She also enjoyed knitting bandages for the third world countries, gardening and flowers.

Beloved wife of Rudy Jutzi of Fairview Home with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on March 6, 1995. Loving mother of Elaine and her husband Walter Fretz of Vineland, Robert and his wife Irene of Baden, Nelda and her husband Ray Brenneman, Mark and his wife Karen, Grant and his wife Louise, all of New Hamburg, Ken and his wife Joan of Milverton, Lucille and her husband Bill Jantzi of RR 2, Petersburg and John and his wife Juanita of Richmond, Va. Ever remembered by 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Iona Bowman of Haysv Lucille and her husband Harry Albrecht of Kitchener; one sister-in-law, Doris Janzi of Hensall.

SCHMIDT, Lloyd - At St. Mary's Hospital, on Saturday, May 10, 2003, suddenly to be with is Lord, Lloyd Schmidt, aged 87 years.

Lloyd was a member of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church and had been an usher with the church for many years. He was a member of Rockway Charles St. and Breithaupt Senior Citizens Centres and the Marmo Club, the Second Tuesday of the Month Retirement Club. He had been employed with K-W Hospital for 11-1/2 years until his retirement. He loved bicycle riding watching TV and playing with children.

Father to Larry and his wife Laurie of Bayfield; Dennis and his wife Cindy of Kincardine; Dale and his wife Shirley of Conestoga; and Sharon and her husband James McKenzie of Kitchener. Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Sadly missed by his loving companion, Alfreda Duval.

Predeceased by his parents, Saw Schmidt and Fannie Bast; a brother, Stanley and a sister, Erma in infancy.

New Schmidt Woods trail now open in Wilmot

Wilmot residents now have a new three-kilometre trail to walk, hike and cycle on - and with winter edging closer, it will soon be open to snowmobilers, too.

The Schmidt Woods trail opened Oct. 5, and runs from the northwest corner of the Wilmot Recreation Complex (at the Nafziger Road entrance) to the east end of the property, eventually connecting paved bike lanes at Gingerich Road.

About two kilometres of the trail has a compacted stone dust multi-purpose surface. The remaining kilometre is a natural ground hiking trail, which leads through the forest surrounding the Rec Complex.

The lands for the trails were donated to Wilmot Township by the Schmidt Estate as a tribute to the memory of Harold and Enid Schmidt's contributions to both Baden and the township.

The $257,000 construction, funded in part through the CIP 150 grant program, ended up costing less than anticipated.

Beatrice Miller Snyder was born in Wilmot Township and spent most of her life there.

She became adept at feeding large numbers of people when, as a young housewife, she was required to feed employees of her husband's transport business. Because of this expertise, she was often called on to supervise meal preparation for large groups of people at annual church conferences and other meetings.

In addition, she published a booklet of recipes and guidelines for the preparation of large scale meals and a book Pennsylvania German Customs and Cookery.

She served on many boards and committees, including the Waterloo Regional Folk Arts Council and Festival, the Waterloo Farm and Home Safety Association, the Central Ontario Exhibition, Kitchener Theatre Arts Centre committee, farm forums, the Pennsylvania-German Folklore Society, Shantz Mennonite Church Women's Missionary Service Auxiliary, the Women's Institute and the Waterloo County Federation of Agriculture.

MILLER, Bernet (Barney) W. - On Saturday, September 20, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital. Kitchener, Bernel Miller of Baden. He was born in Wilmot township 72 years ago. A son of the late David and Lydia (Bast) Miller. He retired from Lear Seating Industries, Kitchener after 44 years of service and was a member of the Wilmot Rod and Gun Club. Surviving is his wife N. Jean (Murray) Miller. Ever remembered by his children, Frank of Petersburg, Barbara of Kitchener, Murray and his wife Jean of RR 1, New Hamburg, Brenda Bauman and Mike Coffey of Kitchener, Bernel Jr. (Foxy) and his wife Debra of RR 2, Petersburg, William and his wife Gayle of Baden, Pamela Rossiar of Kitchener, Wayne of of RR 1, New Dundee and Dale and his wife Terry of Punkey Doodles Corners. Also missed by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Beatrice Snyder of New Hamburg and Pearl Diebel of Kitchener and a sisters-in-law, Pearl Miller of Baden, Doris Miller and Fran Holtzhauer both of Kitchener. Bernel was predeceased by four brothers, Earl, Laverne, Harry and Grant and three sisters; Genevieve Schmidt, Mabel Binkle and Verna Hesse. Private arrangements will be according to Barney's wishes with cremation to occur and there will be no visitation. MILLER, Lyle - Peacefully entered into his eternal rest, on January 20, 2007, at his residence, in St. Jacobs, at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Rebecca Eileen (Shantz) Miller whom he married June 26, 1948. Dear father of Paul (Pauline Duench Miller), daughter Lynn (Peter Bell), grandchildren Robert Duncan (Ally), Krissie (Richard O'Dell), David Miller and great-grandchildren Charles and Alexis. He is lovingly remembered by his brothers Clare Miller, Stan (Connie) Miller as well as many nieces and nephews. Lyle was born in Baden, Ontario May 14, 1920. He was predeceased by his parents Henry (1960) and Ida (Rueffer) Miller (1981), sister Edith Roe, brother-in-law Frank Roe, sister-in-law Joy Miller and niece Marion Miller. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy in the North Atlantic, protecting convoys. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 2: 30 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 60 Mill Street, Baden, with Rev. Dale Finch officiating, assisted by Rev. Charles Gingrich and Rev. Harold Brill. Interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Baden. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Baden, Grey Bruce Health Services, Lion's Head or St. James Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs- Accessibility Fund would be appreciated by the family. MILLER, Clare (P.Eng) - Passed away peacefully at his residence, on Thursday, October 18, 2007. A lifelong resident of Baden, Clare was born 83 years ago, a son of the late Henry Miller and the former Ida Marie Rueffer. Clare had been an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, Baden. He had served overseas during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a member and past-president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 532, New Hamburg. Clare was employed as a professional engineer with Lear-Ziegler, Kitchener for 39 years prior to his retirement. Clare was a man of precision. A recipient of the prestigious Canadian Heritage Award, Clare's quick wit and love of history were evident in his volunteer work at Castle Kilbride and in the high regard he received throughout North America for his knowledge of antique tools and watches. Beloved husband of the late Joy Marion (Levere) Miller, who predeceased him April 15, 1997. Loving father of James Clare and his wife Marlene Anne Miller of Baden. Sadly missed by grandsons, Ryan and fiancée Megan, Ethan and Justin. Lovingly remembered by brother, Stan and his wife Connie Miller; sister-in-law, Rebecca Miller of St. Jacobs; brother-in-law, Duncan and his wife Jean Levere of Winchester and a number of nieces and nephews. SNYDER, Gerald Edgar Peacefully at Norcliffe Life Care Centre on Monday, February 1, 2010 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's, Jerry Snyder, in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Margaret (Brohman) for 62 years. Dear father of Brian (Eileen), Linda, Barry (Barb), Kim (Wilma), Paul (Nancy) and Michele (Pete). Dearly loved Grandpa/Papa to Mark (Kristin), Jill (Shaun), Sarah, Caitlin, Jodi (Paul), Krista (Andrew), Landon, Charity-Rae, Cody, Ryan, Ashley, Hannah, Zachary and Zane. Loved Great-Papa to Jacob, Braden and Tyler. Jerry was predeceased by his brothers Claude and Robert Snyder, his sisters Selda Shantz and Joyce Gregory and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry is also survived by sisters-in-law Jeanette Anderson (Garth) and Florence Hales (Playford) and predeceased by Helen Steffler, Bertha Noonan, Fran Clements, Catherine, George, Andy and James Brohman. Over a period of more than fifty years, Jerry worked in the poultry business building Bray Chicks of Hagersville and later raising hatching egg chickens and broiler chickens on the family farm. Over the years he participated in community service clubs such as the Kinsmen and the Lions, but he was most committed to the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Roman Catholic Church and Separate school system tirelessly working to raise money for the new St. Mary's Church and School in Hagersville. He enjoyed his years on the Roman Catholic School Board, some of it as the Chairman. He sat on the Land-Use Planning Committee, a precursor to the current municipal zoning bodies. Among many other volunteer activities he was also well known as a driver for local cancer patients. Visitation for Jerry will be held at the Hyde & Mott Funeral Chapel, 60 Main Street South, Hagersville on Thursday, February 11th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 6: 30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church on Friday, February 12th at 11: 00 a.m. with interment at St. Anne's Cemetery. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the West Haldimand General Hospital.
