    Mrs. Joel Erb Passes In East Zorra

    Mrs. Joel Erb, formerly Catherine Gingerich, died Sunday at the home of her son in law, Nicholas Zehr, East Zorra. She was in her 81st year and had been ill for over a year. A native of Wilmot Township, she was born July 25, 1861, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Gingerich. She married Joel Erb December 18, 1883, residing in E ast Zorra since that time. Her husband died in Sept., 1935. She was a member of the East Zorra Amish Mennonite church, 16th. line.

    Surviving her are one son. Jacob, of East Zorra, four daughters, Mrs. Jos. Albrecht, Tavistock, Mrs. Aaron Brenneman, South Easthope, Mrs. Chr. Bender and Mrs. Nicholas Zehr, East Zorra; one sister, Mrs. Chr. Steinman of Tavistock, twenty grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

    The funeral was held from the home of her son-in-law, Nicholas Zehr, on Wednesday morning, to the East Zorra A.M. Church. Bishop Daniel Iutzi officiated. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

In 1903 she was married to Joseph Albrecht, who died in 1938.     Brenneman, Catherine, daughter of Joel and Catherine (Gingerich) Erb, was born in East Zorra on July 18, 1888; died at the home of her daughter at Baden, Ont., on Sept. 14, 1960; aged 72 y. 1 m. 27 d. On Jan. 7, 1909, she was married to Aaron Brenneman, who died in 1950. One son, 4 grandchildren, and one sister also preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 sons (Lorne, East Zorra; and Floyd, South Easthope), one daughter (Ahleda-Mrs. Emerson Jutzi, Baden), one brother (Jacob Erb, Tavistock), 3 sisters (Mrs. Clara Zehr, Tavistock; Mrs. Lydia Albrecht, Baden; and Fannie-Mrs. Christian Bender, East Zorra, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the 16th Line A.M. Church. Memorial services were held Sept. 16 at the A.M. East Zorra Church. Officiating in the services were Elmer Schwartzentruber, Daniel Wagler, and Henry Yantzi.

    BENDER, Anson - Passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hos-pital, Kitchener. Anson resided in Baden and was born 77 years ago in East Zorra township. He was the son of the late Christian R. and Fannie (Erb) Bender. He was a member at Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden.

    Beloved husband of Reta (Gingerich) Bender whom he married October 4, 1950. Dear father of Jim and his wife Chris Bender of Waterloo. Loving grandpa of Mara, Katrin and Averyl. Sadly missed by sisters-in-law, Eudora Bender of Tavistock, Marjorie and husband Ken Jantzi of New Hamburg and brother-in-law, Ralph and wife Louise Gingerich of RR 1, St. Agatha. Anson was predeceased by his brothers, Ervin and wife Rachel Bender and Wilmer Bender. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews.

    Anson owned and operated Anson Bender Electric in Baden for many years and installed electricity for many farms for the first time in Wilmot and Wellesley townships. Anson also enjoyed metal working as a hobby in his retirement years. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden, with Pastor Steve Drudge officiating. Interment to follow in the church cem-etery. As expressions of sympathy, do-nations may be made to St. Mary's Hos-pital, Kitchener.

    ZEHR, Delmer Delmer Zehr, 87, of Tavistock passed away peacefully with family by his side at Stratford General Hospital, on Monday evening, April 7, 2014. He was born in East Zorra Township, Oxford County on April 30, 1926 a son of the late Nick and Clara (Erb) Zehr. Delmer was an active member of Tavistock Mennonite Church. During his lifetime he had been a farmer, a building contractor and the operator of the Tavistock Golf Course. He was a former Provincial Director of the Mennonite Disaster Service; a member of Tavistock Men's Club and in 2013 was one of the "Seniors of the Year" for Oxford County. Delmer is survived by his wife, the former Clara Gascho, whom he married at Wellesley on June 29, 1949; three children, Duane Zehr, Charlene Zehr and Dave Harland, Darolyn Zehr and Laverne Rettinger; four grandchildren, Luke Zehr, Kelsea Zehr and Matt Schumm, Ryan Green and Jayne Edighoffer, Tara and Koos Rossouw; two brothers, Curtis Zehr, Lorne and wife Delphine Zehr; brother-in-law, C. Gerry Gascho and his wife Wendy; sister-in-law Millie Zehr; "Gascho" brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Glenn and Katie Schwartzentruber, Dan and Joyce Gascho, Rae and Ruth Nafziger. He was predeceased by his son, Roger Zehr (February 10, 1987); two brothers, Laverne and wife Edna Zehr and Ivan Zehr; his sister, Doris and husband Melvin Wagler and sister, Jean Gascho; his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Lydia Gascho and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vera and LeRoy Leis. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Adams will officiate. Interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Mennonite Central Committee or the Legacy Fund of Tavistock Mennonite Church would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 519-655-2431.
