    Formerly a resident of Kitchener, Joseph J. Bender, 72, of Detroit, died suddenly, today of a heart attack. Suriving are four brothers, Peter and John of Kitchener, Andrew and William of St. Clements and one sister, Mrs Louis (Otilda) Bauer, of Waterloo. His wife predeceased him nine months ago. The funeral will be held Saturday at St. Anthony's Church, Detroit, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Detroit.

    Level Crossing Crash Takes Three Lives

    A west-bound Grand River Railway freight train of 15 cars struck an automobile at a level crossing near the Freeport Sanatorium Sunday afternoon.

    Simon Bender, 62, and his wife 59, of St. Clements, were killed when the car was struck, and Lucy Kuntz, 13, died soon after being taken to hospital. The car itself was carried 500 ft. by the train. Mrs. Peter Kuntz, a sister of Mrs. Bender, Mrs. Michael Prokopowicz, daughter of Mrs. Kuntz and driver of the vehicle, were injured.

    FEENEY, Louise (née Bender) The family of Louise Feeney is very sad to announce her death on March 19, 2018 at Innisfree House in her 100th year. Louise was predeceased by her loving husband Hubert in May 2000. She was the last surviving member of the family of Andrew Bender and Mathilda Scheffner, predeceased by sisters Irene (Henry) Brenner and Rita (Bob) Golds and brothers Gilbert (Nellie) Bender and Carl (Helen) Bender. She is survived by her 4 loving children, Marjorie (Terry deceased 2003) Hallman, Joanne (Frank) Shewchuk, Carole Forsyth and Jim (Leslie) Feeney. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sheri (Charlie) Tease, David Hallman, Paul (Julia) Shewchuk, Thomas Shewchuk, Ian (Tricia) Forsyth, Jean (David) Hébert and Tara (Steve Snyder) and nine great-grandchildren. Louise worked at Audio Transformer for many years. During retirement she engaged actively in many senior activities and especially playing cards. She was a member of the CWL and the Retired Knights of Columbus and belonged to St. Agnes and St. Louis parishes for over 70 years. Friends are invited to share their memories of Louise with her family during Visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be held at 8:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes RC Church, 75 Bluevale St. N., Waterloo on Friday March 23, 2018 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Aleksander Mazur as Celebrant. Interment to follow the mass at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. Reception will be held in the parish hall.     BENDER, Gilbert Joseph Born on October 13, 1922 near St. Clements, Ontario to both the late Andrew (1951) and Mathilda (nee Scheffner 1963) Bender. Gib passed away peacefully on April 10, 2015 at the age of 92 at his residence. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Angela Nellie (nee Zarzycki) Bender in 1999 after 54 years of marriage. Gilbert is survived by his children; Gary (Doreen), Glen (late Judy - 2008), Brian (Debbra), Jeff (Bonnie), and Denise Reinhart (Charlie). Grandfather of James, Deirdre, Carrie-Lee, Tammy, Julie, Michael, Kevin, Kristina, Angel, Emily, Derek, Ryan, Anthony and Jackie. Great-grandfather of Kyle, Dillon, Steven, McKenzie, Victoria, Lily, Brooke, Danica, J.J., Tyson, Tavia, Reese, Benjamin and Devyn. Great- great-grandfather of Ethan. Brother of Louise (late Hubert) Feeney. Gib will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved; and his long time friend Hans Bruhin. He was predeceased by his sisters Irene (late Henry) Brenner and Rita (late Bob) Golds and brother Carl (late Helen) Bender. Gib leaves behind a legacy that includes his love and friendship with everyone he met, his dedication to his family, his love of all children (and their antics), his willingness to help anyone in need and his love of God. Gilbert's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8: 45 p.m. Prayers will also be offered at the funeral home on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 12: 20 p.m. followed by procession to St. Anne's RC Church, 268 East Ave., Kitchener for a Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Following the interment at Parkview Cemetery a reception will be held at the church. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Anne's RC Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).     BENDER, Doug After a brief illness, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at home on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Bernice for 46 years. Loving father of Darryl and his wife Yvonne, Lori Beam and her husband Mike, and Dale and his wife Andrea. Proud grandpa of Carly, Katelyn, Dustin, Nikki, Blythe, Avery, and Hunter. Dear brother of MaryAnn Quehl, Chuck Bender (Liz), Kathy Dietrich (Brian), and Chris Gaudet (Rick). Also greatly missed by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Florence (Fischer) and Edward Bender and brother-in-law Don Quehl. Doug was the successful owner of Watcon General Contractors and more recently Bender Developments Ltd. He was active in the community and served on several committees that contributed to countless St. Clements area improvements over the years. Doug enjoyed spending his time at the cottage in Colpoys Bay with his grandchildren along with hunting and fishing. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses at CarePartners. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 8:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clements R.C. Church, St. Clements on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ray Reitzel C.R. as Celebrant. Interment in St. Clements R.C. Cemetery.     QUEHL, Mary Ann (nee Bender) Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Predeceased by her husband Don Quehl in 1991. Sadly, missed and most loved and devoted mother of son Greg and his wife Val of Linwood and grandchildren, Brendan, Taryn and Lauren. Along with her daughter Tanya Brick of Waterloo and grandchildren Brianna and Zachary. Our Mom and Grandma thoroughly enjoyed cheering on her family at many hockey, baseball, ringette and soccer games.
