    Notes:

    Following a lengthy illness, Joseph Hesse, 91, died Friday morning, April 5, 1957 at Avon Crest, Stratford, where he had been a resident for a number of weeks. Mr. Hesse was a native of Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hesse and was born on June 23, 1865. He has farmed near Bright prior to his retirement some years ago. His wife, the former Matilda Amacher, died in 1908. Mr. Hesse was a member of Zion Evangelical U. B. Church, Tavistock. Of later years had been making his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Pletsch, Adam Street. Surviving are four sons, Earl of Brantford, Elmer of Stratford, Delaus and Floyd of Detroit, two daughters, Mrs. Pletsch (Clarissa) and Mrs. Lorne (Lauretta) Weber, Stratford a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Junker, New Hamburg, 21 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Four brothers and 3 sisters predeceased him. Service at Robert Krug funeral home with burial in Lingelbach Cemetery. Rev. F. Paul Erb, in charge.     SCHILDROTH, Mrs. William C. (Alberta) - On Wednesday, March 5, 1980 at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness, the former Alberta Hesse, in her 91sdt year, of 94 Scott St., Kitchener.

    Mother of Winnifred (Mrs. William Kropp), Eileen (Mrs. Lorne J. Schweitzer), Lester and Donald, all of Kitchener. Also survived by nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by two brothers, Wilfred and victor; her father John Hesse and her mother, the former Maryann Amacher.

    She was a member of Zion United Church, Kitchener, and at one time served as organist at Evangelical Churches in New Hamburg and Lingelbach.

    Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, after 7 pm this evening. Funeral and committal service in the Ratz-Bechtel Chapel on Saturday at 2 pm. Rev. F.J. Roberts will conduct the service. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.

    A resident of Tavistock since 1960, Irvin Roy Hesse, 73, died Thursday afternoon at Avon Crest, Stratford. He has been a hospital patient since mid-February. A native of Blandford Township, he was born July 18, 1893, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hesse, and had farmed in that township for 32 years before retiring to Tavistock. While living in Blandford be was a member of the Bethel United Church, Wilmot Township. He was a member of Knox United Church, Tavistock.

    On Sept. 11, 1918, in South Easthope Township, he married the former Louisa Mansz, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James (Elizabeth) Tew, Washington; Mrs. Alvin (Jean) Morris, Harrington, and Mrs. Norman (Audrey) Potter, Woodstock; a brother, Harvey, 230 Brunswick St., Stratford; three sisters, Mrs. George (Effie) Capling, Bright; Mrs. Valentine (Annie) Hofstetter, Baden, and Mrs. Albert (Viola) Pauli, New Hamburg. There are six grandchildren.

    The body rested at the Francis funeral home where a service was held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p. m., conducted by Rev. James Warden, minister of Knox United Church. Burial followed in Bethel United Church cemetery, Wilmot.

She was quite the card shark with friends and family as well as enjoying card games at the 39 Plus Club. Marg was the treasured wife of the late Carl Zoeller and lovingly raised their four children in New Hamburg. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Norma Wright (Jack, predeceased) her two granddaughters Kelly and husband Tim Breadner, Kim and husband Dean Bedwell. Marg was a proud great-grandma to Carly, Sam, Jack, Grace and Avery. Her son Richard and wife Sheila and her two grandchildren Jeff and Amy and husband Tim Deutchman and her two great-grandchildren Ava and Levi. Daughter Carol and husband Terry Petznick, two grandsons Cory and wife Molly, Chris and wife Karen and great-grandchildren Joshua, Cole, Ella and Callie.     Left to mourn his passing are his wife Lucy of Brussels, children Linda VanKooten of Stratford, Beverly Hearn of Calgary, AB, Barbara (Dave Wahl) of Medicine Hat, AB, Norman Welsh of Kitchener, his grandchildren Jacob and Lucas VanKooten, Travis and Jessica Wahl, Kayla and Laura Hearn, Eric (Cynthia) and Shane Welsh, as well as five great-grandchildren.

    Remembered by Laura Illingworth (John) and sister-in-law Charlotte Hesse. Predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Elmina (Dahmer) Hesse, daughter Cheryl Hesse, brothers John Stanley (Myrtle) Hesse and Calvin Hesse.

    Robert was born and raised at 601 Ontario Street, Stratford and lived and worked as an auto body mechanic at his shop on Downie Street. He moved to Kitchener in 1971 where he met and married Lucy in 1978. He then worked in industry selling steel barrels. He retired at the age of 55, against his wishes, due to health reasons. In 1991 he moved to Brussels where he became active in the community, joining the Lion's Club, where he held the office of president, Masonic Temple, Mother Lodge Preston # 297, where he became Master in Brussels and joined the Shrine in 1995. He held many offices in various Shrine Clubs and joined the Fire Brigade, Hillbillies, Desert Rats and Blue Water Clubs. Robert enjoyed many interests, including the 'coffee club in Brussels', had great vision for renovating homes, loved spending time with family and friends, enjoyed travelling in his Mercedes (his mafia car) to various destinations. He and Lucy also travelled to Alaska, England, Spain, Portugal, Madiera, as well as all over the U.S. and Canada, LIVING THE DREAM. Because of declining health he was not able to get about on his own for the last year of his life.

    Family and friends will be received at Melville Presbyterian Church, 55 Dunedin Drive, Brussels on Wednesday November 23, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the church on Thursday November 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Gordon Williams and Rev. Elwin Garland officiating. Private family interment in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.

    As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Mocha Shrine Centre, London for the Canadian Shrine Hospital.

    A Masonic service will take place Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.

In 1934, Lester took a position at Brodey-Draimin Furriers in downtown Kitchener. He started his employment delivering fur coats on a bicycle, and over the course of time became a senior salesman. He continued working for Brodey-Draimin for 55 years, until his retirement in 1989. During the Second World War, Lester served as a member of the 24th Field Ambulance Reserve based in Kitchener. A lifetime active member of Zion United Church, Lester served in many capacities. Lester acted as an Elder, served on the Presbytery Council and was a member of the Finance Committee, as well as many other volunteer capacities. For over 40 years, Lester was an enthusiastic member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Sales and Advertising Club. He served on many committees and was a director of the Club in the 1960s. Long before anyone used the term "environment", Lester taught his children and grandchildren to care for the planet Earth. He loved camping, hiking and fishing throughout Southern Ontario. He always had deep sympathy and compassion for those who were less fortunate and was a generous contributor of his time and financial resources for the benefit of others in need. Lester participated in numerous charitable activities including fund-raising for the K-W Federated Appeal (now the United Way). Lester was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his family as well as many others in the community.     EILEEN SCHWEITZER (nee: Schildroth) 1918 - 2007 Passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Home on Thursday, November 15, 2007 in her 90th year. She was born on August 10, 1918 on a farm outside of New Hamburg to William and Alberta Schildroth (Hesse) and had many fond memories of going to public school and Sunday school in New Hamburg. Her family later moved to Kitchener where she eventually worked at Smiles? n Chuckles.

    Eileen married Lorne Schweitzer in 1940 (predeceased March 25, 1982) and has two daughters, Paula (Bruce) Scheifele and Wendy Payne. She always put others first in her life and was always there to help anyone who needed her. She is especially remembered with great affection by her three grandsons, Steven, Scott, and Mark Scheifele with whom she developed a wonderful rapport. She will also be missed by her adopted daughter Joy Becker, her brother Donald and his wife Collette of Vancouver, sister-in-law Mae Schildroth and great grandchildren Brooke and Eric (Charlotte Bruder), Jacob, Sarah and Joseph (Stephanie Wunder) and Ella, Jack and Tessa (Kelly Schroeder).

    Predeceased by her sister Winnifred Kropp (Powell/Schildroth) and her brother Lester Schildroth. She was a member of Zion United Church and for many years a volunteer with the Grand River Hospital follow-up Cancer Clinic and the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic. She also worked at the Nurses Residence of K-W Hospital as receptionist and house mother for the nurses.

    The family wishes to thank Judy and the wonderful staff of Castle Kilbride at Sunnyside Home where she received the very best care for the past five years.

    Friends are invited to share their memories of Eileen with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Sunday, November 18, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, November 19 at 2:00 pm with Rene Alexander, Chaplain of Sunnyside Home officiating, followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. Cremation will follow and a private family interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo.
