    Death of Mrs. H. Doering

    There died at Philipsburg on Jan. 1st, Anna Eve Schmidt, wife of Henry Andrew Doering, who predeceased her over two years ago. Deceased was born in North Easthope and was a daughter of the late Jacob Schmidt and Margaret Pfeffer. Deceased lived with her parents on the farm until the year 1866 when she was united in marriage to Henry Andrew Doering of Philipsburg and there resided on the farm adjoining the village until two and a half years ago they moved to their home in the village. The union was blessed with 7 sons, and 3 daughters, namely: Christena, Mrs. Geo. Lantz, of Philipsburg. David (deceased) Miss Millie at home, Andrew of Wellesley, Louis of Kitchener, Henry of North Easthope, Ella. Mrs. C. L. Forler (deceased), Theodore, Edwin and Elmer, all of Philipsburg. There remain to mourn the loss of a loving mother, the above named children, 29 grandchildren and 7 great grand children.

    The funeral (private) will take place from her late residence on Friday, Jan. 4th. at 2 p.m. to the Philipsburg Lutheran Church for service, of which she was a life long member. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery here. Deceased attained the ripe age of 83 years. May she rest in peace.

    PHILIPSBURG, Nov. 9. - Christina Lantz, relict of George Lantz, died here Sunday at her home following a lingering illness of about two years. She was 64 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband seven years ago.

    Three sons and three daughters survive. They and Mrs. Edmund Kraehling, New Prussia, Mrs, Alex Berg. Philipsburg. and Mrs. William Luckhart, Topping, Herbert Lantz, Berlets Corner, Andrew and Theodore Lantz, both at home. Six brothers and one sister also survive.

    The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon from her late residence a 2 o'clock to the Philipsburg Lutheran Church and Cemetery.

    Miss Emilia Doering

    PHILIPSBURG.-The death of Miss Emilia Doering of Philipsburg occurred early Sunday night. She was 69 years of age and passed away following a lengthy illness.

    Deceased was a daughter of the late Andrew H. Doering and Eva Schmidt both of Philipsburg. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg and a member of the Ladies' Aid and choir for over 30 years.

    Surviving are one son Stanley L. Doering, four brothers, Dr. Louis Doering of Wellesley, Theodore Doering, Edwin Doering and Elmer Doerring Philipsburg. Two sisters and one brother died a number of years ago and Andrew Doering, a brother of Wellesley, died suddenly two months ago.

    Emelie Marie Doering

    The death occurred at her home in Philipsburg on Sunday, May 3, of Emelie Marie Doering, after a lengthy illness, in her 69th year.

    The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Doering and was a lifelong and esteemed resident of the Village. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Ladies' Aid Society and church choir.

    The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with service in Zion Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. H. R. Mosig, New Hamburg. A large circle of sorrowing relatives and friends were in attendance. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery.

    Andrew S. Doering Passes Suddenly

    Though in poor health for the past month, death came very suddenly to Mr. Andrew S. Doering, well known resident of Wellesley, at the age of 67 years.

    The deceased was born in Philipsburg on May 10, 1874, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. Andrew Doering. He was married to Caroline Hamel and they operated a farm on the outskirts of Wellesley for many years.

    The deceased was a Lutheran in religion and was a member of St. Paul's Canada Lutheran Church in Wellesley.

    Besides his wife, he is survived by four brothers and a sister, Theodore, Edwin, Elmer, Dr. Louis Doering and Miss Millie Doering, all of Philipsburg.

    The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon with a private service at the home at 2 o'clock, followed by public service at Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg, and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Wm. Nolting of Wellesley and Rev. G. K. Schutz, Philipsburg, will be in charge of the services.

    NEW HAMBURG.-Henry W. Doering, R.R. No. 3, New Hamburg, passed away Monday at his home in his 55th year, following a six weeks illness. Mr. Doering, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Andrew Doering, was born at Philipsburg, and of Lutheran faith, was a member of Zion Lutheran church.

    Surviving are his widow, Emma Hoerle, three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Hoffman, Wellesley, Eva and Kathleen at home, and three sons, Elvon, Andrew and Emmerson, all at home, also five brothers, Andrew, Louis, Theodore, Edwin and Elmer, and one sister, Amelia, all of Philipsburg.

    The funeral was held Thursday afternoon with a private service at the home at 2 o'clock and thence to Zion church at Philipsburg for public ser- vices at 3 o'clock. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. G. Schultz officiated.

    PHILLIPSBURG Funeral service for Theodore C. Doering, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg. Mr. Doering died Wednesday at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital following a lingering illness. He was 83.

    He was born at Phillipsburg and farmed there all his life. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a former Sunday School superintendent, and a church councillor.

    He was the last surviving member of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Doering. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Johanna Kraehling.

    Surviving are two sons, Wesley of RR 5, Embro, and Armand of Phillipsburg; three daughters, Mrs, William (Idella) Wettlaufer of RR 1. New Hamburg, Mrs. Erma Seip of Stratford, and Mrs. Harvey (Marie) Kneisel, RR 1, Wellesley; nine grandchildren and six great grandebildren. He was predeceased by one daughter. The body is at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg. Rev. Ernest Felker of the church will conduct the funeral service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    Theodore C. Doering of Phillipsburg died last Wednesday at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, following a lengthy Illness. He was 83.

    He was born at Phillipsburg and farmed there all his life. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a former Sunday School superintendent and a church councillor.

    NEW HAMBURG - Elmer H. Doering, 61, died at his home in Philipsburg early today. A son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Andrew Doering, he was born on the same farm where he died. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg. His wife, the former Ella Seyler, whom he married in 1926 survives. Also surviving are a son, Walter, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Armand (Norma) Weiler of Baden and Karolyn at home and two brothers, Theodore and Louis of Philipsburg. One grandchild also survives. One brother predeceased him last year. The body is at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until Sunday noon when removal will be made to the residence. A private service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the residence, followed by a memorial service at Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg at 2: 30 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. D. H. Stewart will officiate.

    Wellesley - Mrs. Edward Kraehling, RR 1, Wellesley, 77, died suddenly at her home Sunday.

    Born in Phillipsburg, May 29, 1888, Mrs. Kraehling was the former Ella Emile Lantz, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Lantz.

    She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg. She and her husband farmed in Wilmot Township for the past 57 years. They were married Sept. 22, 1909, in Phillipsburg. She is survived by her husband; three sons, Harold of Waterloo, Roy of Kitchener, and Earl, RR 1, Wellesley; a brother, Theodore, RR 1, Milverton; a sister Mrs. William (Vera) Luckhart, RR. 1, Milverton; and by two grandchildren.

    She was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

    The body will be at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, until Wednesday noon when removal will be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, for the service at 2: 30 pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Rev. Ernest Felker will officiate.

    PHILLIPSBURG - Theodore Lantz of RR 1, Milverton, and formerly of Phillipsburg died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He was 64.

    Mr. Lantz was born in Phillipsburg, March 28, 1906 and farmed at that community before retiring in 1962.

    He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Lantz. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church there.

    Surviving is his sister, Mrs. William (Vera) Luckhardt of RR 1, Milverton. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

    The body will be at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home in Wellesley until noon Friday when removal will be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, where the service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Norman Keffer.

    Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery.

Doering He was the grandson of the late Henry Andrew Doering and Anna Eva Schmidt and was born in Toronto on December 9, 1915. He received his early education at SS No. 17, Wilmot, the New Hamburg Continuation School and his senior matriculation from the K-W Collegiate. In 1936, he graduated from the Stratford Teachers' College, with a first class teachers certificate. In 1968 he graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography. He spent his entire teaching career of 35 years in Waterloo County, 12 years at New Prussia, SS No. 18, 10 years at Kelly's, SS No. 6, Wellesley and 13 years at the Elmira and District Secondary School, where he was head of the Geography Department, when he retired in 1972. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, and at the time of his passing was a member of the Founders' Club of the University of Western Ontario. He is survived by cousins and many acquaintances. Visitation at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 40 Henry St., Wellesley, where his family will receive friends on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At noon Monday, Nov. 3, removal will be made to Zion Lutheran Church, for the funeral service at 2: 30 p.m., Rev. Doug Krantz officiating. Interment will be made beside his lifetime friend, George N. Buchhelt in the St. Agatha RC cemetery

    PHILLIPSBURG - Charles George Forler, 62, a lifelong resident of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, after an illness of four months.

    A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Forler, Mr. Forler was a building contractor and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Baden branch of the Canadian Order of Foresters.

    Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. John (Eva) Ehrat of Phillips burg and Mrs. John (Almeda) Leu of New Hamburg. Mr. Forler, a widower, was predeceased by two brothers.

    The body will remain at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until noon Saturday when removal will be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, for a service at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Edward Reigert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    PHILLIPSBURG - Suffering from a heart condition for the last six years, Theodore H. Forler, 55, died suddenly Sunday at his home on the Wellesley highway.

    Born in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Conrad Forler and Ella Doering. He farmed all his life. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg.

    Surviving are his wife, the former Alma Doering, three sons, Lloyd at home, Ralph and Reinhart, both of Phillipsburg, a brother, Clarence of Phillipsburg, and two sisters, Mrs. John Ehart of Phillipsburg and Mrs. John Ehart of Phillipsburg and Mrs. John Leu of New Hamburg, and three grandchildren.

    The body is at the Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley, where a short service wil be conducted Wednesday at 2: 30 pm. Funeral will be held at 3 pm at Zion Lutheran church with Rev. Donald Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    Frigidare Cake
    A)
    2 1/2 cups graham wafers, rolled fine
    1/2 cup soft butter
    Mix together, press into a greased pan and bake slowly 15 minutes then cool.

    B)
    Cream together:
    1/2 cup butter
    1 1/2 cups icing sugar
    Add 2 eggs, beat until thick, like custard. Pour ever baked cake.

    C)
    1/2 pt. sweet whipped cream
    Fold in 1 tin crushed pineapple (drained) and put on top of cake, sprinkle with graham crumbs or nuts.

    Keep in Frigidaire until ready to use.

    Scones
    3 1/2 cups flour
    3/4 cup white sugar
    3/4 cup shortening
    1 teaspoon soda
    2 teaspoons B.P.
    1 cup sweet milk
    Raisins
    Mix like pie dough
    Salt according to taste, roll out and bake.

    Historic Building:
    The present brick edifice was constructed in 1929 by Conrad Forler, assisted by members of the congregation, at a cost of $15,000. The pipe organ, installed in the original church in 1887 at a cost of $800, was moved over into the new church. Mrs. Eva Ehrat, the contractor's daughter, is the church organist, a position she has held for the past 37 years.1a

    He was born in Wilmot Township 74 years ago, son of the late Edwin and Edna (Wettlaufer) Doering. Roy had farmed on the home farm for many years before retiring to New Hamburg. Roy was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg where he had been caretaker of the cemetery and church custodian for a number of years. Roy had also been the caretaker of Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg for eight years. He enjoyed carpentry work and was a avid card player.

    Beloved husband of Blanche Rabethge whom he married September 2, 1950. Dear brother of Irene Neeb of Wellesley and brother-in-law of Evelyn Hohl of New Hamburg, Irene and Donald Cunningham of Elmira, Laverne and Dora Rabethge of Kitchener. Roy is also lovingly remembered by 26 nieces, nephews and their families.

    Roy was predeceased by a sister, Hilda (January 3, 2000) and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lloyd Guenther, Walter Neeb, Stanley Hohl and Elma and her husband Howard Heimpel and one niece.

    Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Clair Hills Retirement residence. Norma was born 86 years ago in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late Elmer Doering and former Ella Seyler.

    Norma will be dearly missed by her husband Armand (Mike) Weiler with whom she married on August 8, 1953. Cherished mother of Michael and Mary Ann Weiler of New Hamburg, Timothy Weiler and Sheila Lobrutto of St. Clements and Tamara and Robert Cranston of Brighton. Norma was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by; Jonathan and Ana Weiler and their children Kaylee and Jacob; Daniel Weiler and friend Aimee, Lindsay and Matt Kelly and their children Hannah, Maxwell and August; Amanda and Jeff Tobias and daughter Isla; Richard and Rhonda Weiler and their children Dakota, Harper and River; Natalie Cranston, Donald Cranston and Nikolas Lobrutto. Survived by her sister Karolyn Heubner and sister-in-law Virginia Weiler as well as nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Joe and Betty Weiler as well as by her brother and sister-in-law Walter and Ruth Doering, and brothers-in-law Rev. Norris Heubner and Roger Weiler.

    Norma had a passion for music and played the organ at church for 47 years. Norma worked for more then 20 years at the Baden Cheese Factory. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending much of her time quilting, knitting, sewing and crocheting. Family meant the world to Norma and Mike. Many evenings were spent watching the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Toronto Blue Jays, playing cards and enjoying great meals or some quality baking except for Tuesday, which was BINGO night!

    Family and friends will be received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 2 \endash 4 & 7 \endash 9 p.m. The funeral will take place on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Baden with Pastor Bonnie Shelter-Brown officiating.
