Of 20 Mill Creek Rd. in Cambridge, on Tuesday, June 22, 1976, in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital. Born in Puslinch on November 14, 1883, she was 92 and lived in Cambridge most of her life. Predeceased by her husband, Edward Gregg in 1964. Surviving are three daughters, Viola (Mrs. Charles Fitzgerald) of Cambridge; Alsmenia (Mrs. William Welth(?) of Mallorytown; Edith (Mrs. James Sweeney) of Cambridge; a brother, Jerome Cober of Maryland, U. S. ; a sister, Mrs. Nora Rennick of Elora; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of Sheffield Presbyterian Church. Service at the Coutts and Son Funeral Home on Fri., Jun 25 at 2. Interment Hespeler Cemetery.

Mrs. Hortop was born in Puslinch Township, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cober and lived all her life in the area. Predeceased by her husband, Gordon Hortop. Survived by her son, Jack of Hespeler; her daughter, Mrs. Shirley Munn of Fergus; her brother, Jerome of Michigan; five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Pte. Cober Gassed

A letter has just been received who was Jerome Cober, who from Pte. Jerome gassed on March 9 last, and is of interest to Hespelerites because the writer tells how he became gassed.. At the time of writing he was in No. 24 General Hospital, France. An extract from the letter follows:

"Old Fritz got me at last. He couldn't hit me with shrapnel or bullets, so he gassed me. He sent the gas over in shells early Saturday morning and I left the trenches the following Sunday noon. They carried me out. I was as blind as a bat, but I could talk all right.

Pte. Cober is a well known Hespeler boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Cober.
