    Funeral at Waterloo.

The body of Mrs. Agnes Pearson. of Waterloo, mother of [in law] Mrs. Thomas W. Seagram, of Waterloo, was brought to Waterloo from Hamilton yesterday morning and arrangements were made for the funeral to be held. on Tuesday afternoon to Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener, where her husband is buried. The late Mrs. Pearson died as a result of injuries incurred in a motor accident near Dundas on Tuesday. She is survived by three brothers, one sister, a son and a daughter. Mrs. T. W. Seagram and, her husband are in the old country, having gone there a month ago.

    _______________

Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Seagram have arrived home from a visit of several weeks in England and will have the deepest sympathy of their many friends in their irreparable loss in the death of Mrs. Seagram's mother Mrs. H. F. Pearson, in whose passing the Twin-City has been bereft of one of its finest women. To be with her was an encouragement and a comfort, for she gave of herself heartily and sincerely, her quick understandings and ready sympathy endearing her to all. Around the hearts of her many friends she wound herself with an appealing sweetness, the severance of which will long be felt. An unusual personality, a good woman and a true friend.

    Waterloo Chronicle 22 Nov 1923, p. 4

    _______________________

The unexpected and much deplored death of Mrs. H. Fred. Pearson, which occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, on Sunday morning as a result of a severe motor accident last Tuesday, October 30th, came as a severe shock to her hosts of friends both here and elsewhere. The death of Mrs. Pearson has removed from the Twin City a woman of much beauty of character and strong personality. A fine type of a Christian lady, she proved herself a most devoted and affectionate wife and mother, whose home was always the place where she loved best to be, and where she welcomed friends and acquaintances with a geniality unexcelled by any and so to the end her family, consisting of one daughter. Mrs. T. W. Seagram of Waterloo, and one son. Mr. Gibson Pearson of Costa Rica, and their families, were her chief thought, and to whom she devoted her best and most loving care, her husband having predeceased her several years ago. The deceased lady also leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Mrs. Colquhoun, Mrs. C. N. Pirie and Miss Madge Gibson, and three brothers, Messrs. Tom and John of Alberta, and Alex. in Montgomery, Ala. with their families, as well as a host of relatives and friends, to whom she was very warmly attached, and to each and all of whom the heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended in their bereavement.

    Notes:

John Liddle Gibson was born in Berlin in the late 1870s and during his early years lived in the Spring Valley area.

His illustrious hockey career started about 1897 as a player on the Berlin team, the first to win the OHA. Intermediate championship. He later played in the Senior Series. Being then considered one of the game's best players, he was invited to organize a professional league in Northern Michigan. He moved to Houghton to do so and play for that city. Teams were formed in other area cities. Other prominent players were imported from Canada. The area was "hockey mad," the quality of hockey was good and exciting. Gibson proved to be a capable organizer and again a star player in his new environment. He graduated from the Detroit Dental College and opened an office in Houghton where he practiced until moving to Calgary in 1909.

Gibson excelled in other sports. For several years he starred on the famous Berlin Ranger Football (soccer) team, also on the Berlin Baseball team. Amongst the many fine athletes native to this area, he undoubtedly was one of the greatest.

He served in the Canadian Forces during World War I and was wounded in 1916. He died in Calgary in 1954.
