    Death of Former Ayrite

Passing of William Currie, Aged 62 Years

The demise of William Currie, only son of Mr. John Currie of South Dumfries, which event transpired at Hamilton on Sunday forenoon, removes a former well-known and highly respected resident of Ayr, in his 63rd year. The deceased was born on the Currie homestead in Blenheim and later lived in Ayr for some years, during which time he filled several local positions, viz., that of baggage master at the railway station and caretaker at the Presbyterian Church. In 1891 he went West, settling near Carberry. A few years later he started a general store at Petrel and was appointed postmaster there, continuing in this capacity until failing health necessitated a change. A few months ago he came east, and was doctoring with a bronchial expert in Hamilton when the end came. He is survived, besides his father, by his wife (nee Miss Wright of Princeton), and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Bell of Galt and Mrs. Robert Smuck of South Dumfries. IN religion Mr. Currie was a Presbyterian and in politics a Liberal. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. Robert Smuck, Paris Road, when interment was mace in the Ayr cemetery, Rev. J. J. Brown officiating. The pallbearers were all nephews of deceased, viz.: Messrs. G. H. Lawrence, Jno. C. Pell, Roy C. Bell, Currie Smuck, William Wright and Gordon Maycock.
