    Pastor and Wife Are 50 Years Wed

    An interesting event took place Sunday when Rev. and Mrs. Orphen Wismer of Baden celebrated their golden anniversary. They has as attendants 50 years ago Mr. And Mrs. N. Snyder of Stasburg and they attended Sunday's anniversary. All of Mr. And Mrs. Wismer's eight children are living. Seven were present Sunday, Bryon of McCallsbury, Iowa, Mrs. Isaac Snyder of Baden, Herbert of Baden, Elmer of Kitchener, Jerry of Ayr, and Mrs. Lorne Shantz of Baden. Milton of Windsor was not able to attend. Dinner was served at Forest Hill Gardens, after which the family spent the afternoon at the old homestead near Baden, where their son Herbert now resides. Mr. and Mrs. Wismer were presented with two lovely gifts, one from the family and one from Mr. And Mrs. Snyder, for which Mr. Wismer gave hearty thanks.

Born in Wilmot Centre, he was a son of the late Rev. Orphen Wismer and the former Sarah Bechtel. Beloved husband of the former Maude Robertson; dear father of Gerald of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mrs. Harold (Merdith) Lawrence of Cambridge (P), Mrs. William (Joan) Sherk of Ayr; brother of Jeremiah of New Hamburg, Mrs. Lorne (Ada) Shantz of Baden. Five grandchildren also survive. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, after 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral and committal service in the chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Ross, officiating. Interment Parkview cemetery.

    On Thursday, Jan. 5, 1984, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Jeremiah Wismer, age 78, of 68 Victoria St. N., New Hamburg, formerly of the Bright area.

    He had been a member of Shantz Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden.

    Beloved husband of the former Elmina Mayer, whom he married May 28, 1931; dear father of Arlene and her husband Carl Riness of Bright, Jean and her husband Bob Innes of Innerkip, Shirley and her husband Bill Thomson of Plattsville and Bruce Wismer and his wife Celeste of Williamsford. A son, Earlus, predeceased him in infancy. He is lovingly remembered by one sister, Ada (Mrs. Lorne Shantz) of RR 2, Baden, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

    He was predeceased by his parents, the late Rev. Orphen Wismer and the former Sarah Bechtel; four brothers and two sisters.

    Friends and relatives called at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg until Monday, Jan. 9, where the service and committal was held at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Ron Byers officiating. Spring interment in Shantz Mennonite Church cemetery, RR 2, Baden.

She was born in Wilmot Township 87 years ago, a daughter of the late Orphen and Sarah (Bechtel) Wismer. Ada was a member of the Shantz Mennonite Church, RR 2 Baden where she had been a member of the WMSC. She was a member of the Baden Senior Citizens and a member of the Haysville Sunshine Club. Beloved wife of Lorne Shantz who predeceased her August 7, 1991. Loving mother of Ralph and his wife Dorothy Shantz of RR 2 Baden, Marilyn and her husband Laurence Martin of Kitchener, Clare and his wife Marlene Shantz of St. Agatha, Harold and his wife Judy Shantz of Milverton, Doreen and her husband Edward Stofega of Windsor. Also remembered by 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Elmina Wismer of New Hamburg. Ada was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters, Byron, Milton, Elmer, Herbert, Jeremiah, Florence Snyder and Alice Shantz. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, today (Wednesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Thursday, May 15, 1997 at noon transfer will be made to Shantz Mennonite Church for the service at 2: 30 p.m., with Pastor Jim Loepp Thiessen officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Shantz Mennonite Church (Building Fund) or the Mennonite Central Committee (Manitoba Flood Relief).

    WISMER, Clarence H. "Whiz" - Passed away, peacefully, at Trinity Village Care Centre, Kitchener, on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the age of 83. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Dorothy Wismer (2007). Dear father of Gail Wismer, Wanda Kutsch (Andy). Sharon Cathcart (Mark), Heather Huber (John), Darcy Wismer (Betty) and Roy Wismer. Also survived by his 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Milton and Grace Wismer; his great-grandson, Blake and his brothers, Derwood and Howard. A memorial service will be held at David MacLeod Funeral Home, 617 King St. N., Waterloo, on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 2 p.m. Cremation.     Mrs. William Sherk - RR #3, Ayr resident, Joan Viola Sherk, died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Sunday, April 2, 1995 while in her 61st year. Mrs. Sherk was born in Kitchener and was the daughter of the late Maud (Robertson) and the late Elmer Wismer. She moved to Ayr in 1964 shortly after her marriage to Bill Sherk. At various times she was employed at John Watson Manufacturing, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Ayr Feed and Supply and was also a member of Knox United Church. In addition to her husband, Bill Sherk, she is survived by her daughter Donna and her husband, Gregg Forte; three grandchildren Gregory, Rose and Mamie Forte, all of Cambridge; and by her sister Merdith and her husband Hank Lawrence of Wroxeter. Mrs. Sherk was also predeceased by her brother Gerald. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 273 Northumberland Street, Ayr on Saturday, April 8 at 1: 30 p.m. Reverend Fred Hagle of Knox United Church to officiate.

    WISMER, Bruce Dale - Passed away suddenly on Monday, March 16, 2009 in Burnaby, B.C. Bruce was born 60 years ago in Bright, a son of the late Jeremiah B. and Elmina (Mayer) Wismer. Bruce was a free spirit who enjoyed his many adventures in life. Dear dad of Dale Wismer and wife Chantal Thorn of Kitchener. Lovingly remembered by his granddaughters, Victoria and Rayne. Brother of Arlene and Carl Riness of Woodstock, Shirley and Bill Thomson of Plattsville and brother-in-law of Robert and Joyce Innes. Also remembered by Celeste Eickholdt and a number of nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by brother, Earlus (in infancy) and by sister, Jean Marie Innes (1984).     James 'Jim" Clare Shantz

    1935 - 2021

    Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021at Innisfree Hospice, Kitchener. Jim was born 86 years ago on February 15, 1935 in Baden, Ontario, and was a long time resident of Wilmot Township.

    Jim will be forever remembered by his beloved wife Shirley (Knechtel) Shantz whom he married on June 18, 1955. Cherished father of Kim Trottier (Michael), Greg (Michele) and Dean (Pat). Loving grandfather to Jill Drader, Josh (Dara) Martin, Emily Shantz (Kevin) and Matthew Shantz. Super Gramps to great-grandchildren Jake and Cooper Drader, Mason, Theo and Hana Martin. Loved by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Janet & Jim, Marlene, Brian and Kathy and by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased and now reunited with his father and mother; Lloyd and Alice (Wismer) Shantz, father-in-law and mother-in-law Clifford and Reta Knechtel, brother and sister-in-law Delford and Laurene Shantz and brother-in-law Doug Knechtel.

    Jim was a faithful member of the Zion United Church in New Hamburg. He was a man of integrity and loyalty as demonstrated throughout his careers in Industrial Relations and most recently as a Realtor with CB Peter Benninger Realty. As an avid sports fan, his loyalty was challenged at times but he stuck with his Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.

    The family wishes to express sincere thanks to all of Jim's personal care team, especially Cindy, Simon and Sandy. We would also like to thank the amazing staff at Innisfree Hospice for the compassion, dignity and professional care shown to our family as you walked this journey besIde all of us these past few weeks.
    All the love, kind thoughts and prayers from family and friends have been felt and appreciated throughout Jim's journey.

    In keeping with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to take place at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg Sunday May 23, 2021 at 11:00a.m. Rev.
