    Notes:

    ANDREW McRAE, farmer, South Dumfries, was born where he now resides, 30th Nov., 1848, and is a son of Murdoch and Ann McRae, natives of Scotland, who emigrated to Canada in 1835, and settled on the farm above mentioned, which consists of 100 acres of well improved land. The father died 22nd March, 1861, and the mother on 30th August, 1877. Andrew, our subject was married 29th Sept., 1871, to Isabella Robinson, who was born in the County of Waterloo, in May, 1847. She was a daughter of John and Isabella Robinson, the former of whom was a native of England, and the latter of Scotland. To Mr. and Mrs. McRae, who are members of the Presbyterian Church, were born two boys and two girls, viz., Isabella Y., Murdoch and Ann (twins), and John D. Mr. McRae has a substantial common school education, and has been so far blessed with prosperity in life. He has a nice comfortable home, and is happy with his little family gathered around him in peace and love.

    Died In South Dumfries on Tuesday, April 20th., 1897, at 8: 00 o'clock, P.M., Andrew McRae Aged 48 years, 4 months and 21 days. The Funeral will take place on Thursday, the 22nd. inst. at 2: 00 o'clock, p.m., from his late residence to the place of interment, New Cemetery, Ayr.

    Funeral of Mrs. C. Sheldon Stockton

    Private funeral service for the late Mrs. Charles Sheldon Stockton was held Saturday at Cumming Funeral Home, Paris, followed by a public service at Knox United Church, Ayr. Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan officiated at both services, assisted at the church by Rev. A. M. Manson, Drumbo. Ian McRae sang "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were: Robert McRuer, Andrew C. Hall, Robert Kennedy, John T. Kennedy, Douglas Perry and Kingsburgh Kyle. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Mrs. Stockton, whose maiden name was Isabella McRae, was in her 88th year and a lifelong resident of the district. She was a valued member of Knox United Church and a charter of the Kate M. Thomson Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons, George of South Dumfries and Andrew of Ayr; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Jeanette) Holder of Blenheim Township and Mrs. Fred (Jean) Fox of London, and a brother, Alex McRae of Ayr.

    Rev. A. R. McRae - Prominent Minister Succumbs After Protracted Illness

    After a prolonged illness, the death occurred at his home, 141 West Colborne street, Brantford, early Saturday afternoon of Rev. Andrew Robson McRae, for the last eight years minister of Balfour Street United Church, West Brantford. Rev. Mr. McRae was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1912, after being graduated from Queen's University, Kingston, and during an active and very successful career as minister in the Presbyterian and, subsequently, United Church of Canada he served in charges at, Kintyre, Ont., East Oxford and Blenheim, Glenmorris and Brantford. He became a minister of the United Church at the time of union. Rev. Mr. McRae, who was in his 51st year, was twice married, his first wife, who was formerly Miss Rachel McRuer, predeceased him in 1922. He leaves to mourn his loss his sorrowing widow, whose maiden name was Isobel McCormick; three sons, Donald, Neil and Andrew, all at, home; 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Mrs. Sheldon Stockton, Ayr; Miss Annie McRae, Ayr; Murdo McRae. Ayr; Rev. Dr. John McRae, BA., B.D.. D.D., of Toronto. formerly President of Shantung University, Tsinah, China; and Alex. McRae, Ayr. For some three or four years past Rev. Mr. McRae had not enjoyed the best of health, but had carried on his pastoral duties faithfully until a little more than a year ago, when he was compelled through illness to relinquish his more active work. He bore his suffering with characteristic patience and Christian faith. His loss will be a severe one not only to his family and congregation but to the ministerial ranks of Brantford and to the United Church, in the councils of which, particularly in the Hamilton Conference, Rev. Mr. McRae was active. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from his late residence, West Colborne street, Brantford, where a private service was held at 2 o'clock, followed by public service, at Balfour United Church. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery, where many Ayr friends and relatives had gathered to pay their list respect s. The pallbearers were fellow ministers of the Brantford Presbytery.

    Alexander T. McRae Passes

    A well-known and highly respected Ayr resident, Alexander Thomas McRae, passed away at Willett Hospital, Paris, on Saturday. Mr. McRae, who was 79 years of age, had been in ill health for some time. He was born on the 6th concession of South Dumfries on December 3, 1888, a son of the late Andrew McRae and Isabel Hobson McRae. He farmed the family acres until 13 years ago when he retired into Ayr, at which time the farm passed into the hands of his son Ian. Mr. McRae was a valued member of Knox United Church where, over the years, he served in many capacities including the office of elder. He was also a member of the choir for many years. Mr. McRae was a lawn bowler, and was affiliated with the local club. Surviving, besides his wife, the former Catherine Kennedy, are two sons, Murray of Denfield, Ont., and Ian of South Dumfries; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Mackie (Jessie) of Ayr, and twelve grandchildren. Funeral service was held on Tuesday from Knox United Church, conducted by Rev. D. E. Willis. Temporary entombment was made in Ayr Cemetery Chapel.

    George Douglas Stockton

    A life-long Ayr district resident, George Douglas Stockton passed away at Victoria Lodge, Ayr, on Tuesday, March 9th. He was in his 86th year. Born in South Dumfries, he was a son of the late Sheldon Stockton and Isabelle McRae. He grew up on the farm now owned by Howard Mitchell, townline, RR 2. Paris. After marriage to Mabel Holmans, the couple farmed on the farm now owned by Brian Sayics. Upon retirement the couple moved into Ayr. Mr. Stockton was a veteran of World War 1. He was a former director of Ayr District Co-Operative. A valued member of Knox United Church, Ayr, he served on the session, was Sunday school superintendent, and for a time was church custodian. Predeceased by his wife and a brother Andrew. Surviving are two sons Rev. James of Hanover and Donald Sheldon of Guelph; two daughters Helen of Toronto and Marion of Edmonton; two sisters Mrs. Thomas (Nettie) Holder of Richwood and Mrs. Fred (Jean) Fox of Hamilton; also 12 grandchildren. Rested at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, until Thursday when funeral service was held at Knox United Church, Ayr. His son Rev. James Stockton officiated., assisted by Rev. George Saunders and Rev. D. E. Willis. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Andrew M. Stockton Passes

    One of the community's most respected citizens, Andrew McRae Stockton passed away on Friday in Willett Hospital, Paris, in his 61st year. He had been in ill health for some time. Born in South Dumfries, he was a son of the late Charles S. Stockton and Isabella Young McRae. He was a successful farmer in that district until ill health forced him to retire into Ayr about five years ago. The late Mr. Stockton was a valued member of Knox United Church here, where his service was recognized by his election as an elder. Surviving are, his wife, the former Marie Chisholm; two daughters, Margaret of Woodstock and Isabel of Sudbury; brother, George Stockton of South Dumfries, and sisters, Mrs. Thomas Holder (Nettie), of Richwood and Mrs. Fred Fox (Jean) of London. - The Funeral - Funeral service was conducted on Monday by Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan at the Cunming Funeral Home, Paris, with interment in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: James Hutchinson, Norman H. Bennett, Leslie Turnbull, Kingsburgh Kyle, Howard Mitchell and Donald Robson.

    Miss Jean M. McRae of Ayr passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Thursday evening, April 1, 1982. She was in her 80th year. A lifelong resident of the Ayr district, Miss McRae devoted her life to the needs of her family, her church and those around her. She was keenly interested in current events, both local and world-wide and was active in all aspects of women's work in the Knox Church as well as the Sunday School and the choir. Daughter of the late Murdo McRae and Agnes Guthrie, Miss McRae is survived by one sister Mrs. Douglas (Florence) Perry, RR 2, Paris and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews. She dedicated her 46 years of married Life to her husband and family and was a second mother and grandmother to many others who loved her. Florence was a life long member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Funeral service was held at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris on Saturday, June 30. Rev. George Saunders of Knox Church, Ayr officiated. Interment in Ayr cemetery. Pallbearers were Ian McRae, Neil McRae, Gordon McRuer, Robert Perry, John Schmidt and Don Treat. Flower bearers were her grandsons Mike Perry and Doug Perry.

    Miss Helen M. MacRae Meets Tragic Death from Burns Received at Open Fireplace


    Many friends and relatives gathered at the W, O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Sunday afternoon to pay their last respects to the late Miss Helen Marjorie MacRae, who died in St. Michael'a Hospital, Toronto, on Thursday from burns received when her clothing caught fire at an open fireplace on. November 26 while at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. D. MacRae, in Toronto. Interment was in Ayr,Cemetery.

    Rev. R. A. Steed officiated at the funeral services and was assisted by Rev. J. W. Currie. Ary; Rev. Andrew Thomson, formerly of Honan, China, and Rev, Miriam Collins of Hamilton. The pallbearers were: George and Andrew Stockton, Thomas Holder, Douglas Perry, Murray McRae , and Neil McRae of Brantford.

    The late Miss MacRae was a niece of Murdo and Alex McRae and Mrs. Sheldon Stockton, and she was well known to many in the Ayr district. She was assistant to the chief librarian at Niagara Falls.

    Born in Honan, China , where her father, the late Rev. J. D. MacRae, was a missionary, she graduated from Victoria University in 1936 and later from the library school, University of Toronto. She was a member of North Broadview United Church and was active in the Canadian Youth Hostel Association. Surviving, besides her mother, are a brother, Rev. Donald MacRae, St. George's United Church, and a sister, Miss Kathleen MacRae, Toronto.

Born in Paris, he was a son of the late Catherine May Kennedy and Thomas Alexander McRae. For many years he farmed at RR 3, Ayr, before moving into Ayr. Ian was a long-time Director and Past Presi d ent of the Paris Agricultural Society; Director and Past President of the Canadian Shorthorn Association; Past Councillor of North Dumfries Township; former Director of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair; Director of the Ayr Cemetery Board; member of the Ayr Lawn Bowling Club, Knox United Church and Farmers' Euchre Club of Cambridge. He was a long-time Scottish entertainer.
