    Christian Roi

    Mr. Christian Roi, a well-known and highly esteemed resident of the Cassel district died last Saturday night, March 5th, at the age of 72 years. He had been ill for some time and sent through a critical operation on the stomach on Saturday forenoon, but owing to his advanced age failed to rally and passed away in the evening.'

    The deceased was born in East Zorra and spent his whole life there farming successfully for many years. He retired from active labor a few years ago. He was married to Lydia Brenneman, who predeceased him three years ago. Three sons and one daughter are left to mourn his demise. They are Emerson of Woodstock, Simon near Hickson, Norman on the homestead near Cassel. He also leaves three brothers and one sister, Lois, Joseph and Mrs. Sol. Brenneman, of Tavistock, and Joel Roi, east of New Hamburg.

    The funeral was held on Tuesday from his late home on the 14th line of East Zorra to the 16th line A.M. church and cemetery. The funeral was attended b a large circle of sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors.

    Brenneman, Lydia, daughter of Christian and Lydia Roi, was born in East Zorra, Ont., Sept. 5, 1893; passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law near Baden, July 5, 1954; aged 60 y. 10 m. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was a member of the East Zorra A. M. Church, remaining faithful to the end. On Dec. 30, 1915, she was united in marriage to Solomon Brenneman, who preceded her in death April 8, 1951. This union was blessed with 4 children (Dorothy-Mrs. Clayton Wagler, of Baden; Archie, of Tavistock; Jerry and Earl, of Baden). Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 3 brothers (Emerson, of Woodstock; Simon and Norman of Tavistock), and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the East Zorra Church by Daniel Wagler and Henry Yantzi, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    Wagler, Dorothy, daughter of Solomon and Lydia (Roi) Brenneman, was born Oct. 14, 1918, in East Zorra Twp., Ont.; died April 6, 1960, at her home near Baden, Ont.; aged 41 y. 5 m. 23 d. She was married to Clayton Wagler, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter (Carol) and 3 brothers (Archibold and Jeremiah, of Woodstock; and Earle, Eastwood, Ont.). She was a member of the Cassel Church. Funeral services were held April 9 at the Steinman Church in charge of Orland Gingerich and Vernon Zehr.

    Roi, Willis, son of Norman and Christena (Bender) Roi, was born in East Zorra, June 12, 1923; died suddenly June 18, 1956, near Port Hope, Ont., in a traffic accident; aged 33 y. 6m. In his youth he accepted Christ and united with the East Zorra A. M. Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. On June 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mabel Zehr. He leaves to mourn his companion, 2 sons (Robert Allen and Donald Christian), his parents, one brother (Christian, East Zorra), 2 sisters (Doris-Mrs. Daniel Erb and Agnes-Mrs. Daniel Bender, both of Wellesley). Funeral services were conducted at the East Zorra Church in charge of Daniel Zehr, Moses Roth, and Henry Yantzi, with burial in adjoining cemetery.
