MRS. SOPHIE HERZ

A resident of Waterloo for 26 years, Mrs. Sophie Herz died at the Eix Private Hospital, Waterloo, this morning after an illness of about three years. Mrs. Herz was born in Germany and came to Canada in 1907. She was 80 years of age. Her husband predeceased her 33 years ago.

She is survived by four sons, Max, Amandus and Reinhold Herz of Waterloo and Friedo of Detroit and by three daughters, Mrs. Eldyon Hymmen, Kitchener, Mrs. Stephen Pedley, Toronto, and Mrs. Victor Moyer, Waterloo. Sixteen grandchildren also survive.

The remains are resting at the Letter and Dreisinger Funeral Home where a short service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, followed by service at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer at 2:30. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Elmira. The services will be conducted by Rev. Albert Orzen, vacancy pastor of the Waterloo Church.

Max W. Herz, of 235 Erb St. W., Waterloo, died today at K-W Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82.

Born in Germany on Jan. 28, 1885, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm Herz and had lived in Waterloo for the past 50 years. Mr. Herz worked for the Globe Furniture Co. Ltd. for 40 years as a designer draftsman, retiring in 1955. He was a founding member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lillian Ruppel whom he married on Oct. 9, 1912 in Elmira; Otto, Waterloo; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Martha) Wilkins, Toronto, and Mrs. John (Lauretta) Huehn, RR 1, Preston; two brothers, Amandus, Toronto and Reinhold, Waterloo; two sisters, Mrs. Victor (Minnie) Moyer, Waterloo, and Mrs. Stephen (Alma) Pedley, Toronto; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter in infancy, one brother and one sister.

The body is at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, Waterloo, where the service will be conducted on Friday at 2 pm by Rev. G. W. Scholz of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Elmira Cemetery.

Amandus Herz

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 3 pm the Good Funeral Chapel in Waterloo for Amandus Herz of Toronto, formerly of waterloo. He died Monday at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, at the age of 86. Burial will be in Elmira Union Cemetery.

Mr. Herz was a former leader of the Elmira Town Board, and choirmaster at St. James and St. Paul's Churches in Elmira.

He was the father of Herman of Toronto; brother of Reinhold and Minnie (Mrs. V. Moyer) of Waterloo; grandfather of two.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Herz; his wife, the former Stella Stumpf, a daughter, Paula; two brothers and two sisters.

HERE LARGELY ATTENDED

The funeral of the late Paula Herz, which was held Sunday afternoon was very largely attended. Short services were held at the residence of her parents and St. Paul's Lutheran Church which was crowded with about 500 persons. Rev. A. Gallmeier officiated. The pall bearers were Messrs. Carl Ruppel, Claire Schaub, Otto Klink, Otto Herz, Carl Hahn and Carl Class. The beautiful flowers received testified to the affection in which the little girl was held. Interment was made in the Elmira Cemetery.

BECKNER, Donald 1935 - 2014 Donald Norman Beckner, age 79, passed away peacefully at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on August 15, 2014. Don suffered from dementia and heart problems. He was born in Kitchener, Ontario on May 5, 1935 and spent his youth in Ontario. He enlisted in the navy at age 17 and served on the M.C.S. HAIDA 215 Far East Naval Forces in Korea, Japan and Hong Kong from 1953 ?1954. Don was a born salesman and showman and worked for many major manufacturers of professional beauty products travelling across Canada and the US. Tired of travelling he joined Emerald Beauty Supplies in Calgary, Alberta in the late seventies and ran the company until he moved on in the late eighties. He married MaryEllen in 1986 and moved to Vernon B.C. where they continued to service the beauty industry for many years. Don was an avid gardener and golfer and will be fondly remembered for his great one-liners. He is survived by his wife MaryEllen, his daughters Dawn and Kris (Gary), his sons Rob (Kim) and D?arcy (Lisa) and his seven grandchildren (Spencer, Ashley, Dusty, Taylor, Riki, Cody and Carly). A private service will be held at a later date.
