__________________________
Whenever a silent film producer needed someone to portray George Washington, chances were good that the actor employed was Joseph Kilgour, a tall Canadian veteran, who had starred on the stage in such plays as Arizona and The Easiest Way. Kilgour, who portrayed the first president in Washington Under the British Flag (1909), The Battle Cry of Peace (1915), The Dawn of Freedom (1916), and Janice Meredith (1924), also took a stab at Louis XVI in My Lady's Slipper (1916) and General Von Bissing in The Fall of the Hohenzollerns (1919). He retired in 1926. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
_____________
Kilgour enjoyed a long career on stage. He acted on Broadway in 29 productions from 1896 through mid-1930. His film roles are limited to silents, largely shot in and around New York City, during the time when major studios maintained operations there to take advantage of theatrical talent.
