    DICKIE, MARY (Nee McKay)

At her home at Lapeer, Michigan, March 8, 1894, aged 63 years. Wife of Alexander Dickie. Most of our readers will remember that about two years ago, Mr. Dickie sold his valuable farm near Puslinch Lake, where he had lived about forty years and removed to Lapeer, Ml, so as to be near his sons and daughters, who had married and taken up farms in that neighbourhood. Mrs. Dickie was one who, during her long active life, was seldom ill and was one of the most industrious of women. Her aged partner still survives her but has for long been in rather a crippled and enfeebled condition of body, owing to natural lameness and rheumatism. She also leaves behind a family often, five boys and five girls, all married but one who lives with her parents, Miss Jessie. The funeral was on Sat, the 10th at Lapeer.

    Notes:

    DICKIE, BYRON H.

The Breckenridge Democrat of Breckonridge, TX contains the following account of the death of Mr. Dickie of Woodson, TX, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Dickie, formerly of Puslinch, near Hespeler: A former Breckenridge school boy and graduate electrical engineer, he was accidentally electrocuted in the General Electric Co. plant at Schenectady, NY, on Monday morning, February 5, 1917, at about 10. His body was laid to rest at Woodson on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10, with masonic honours. The Breckenridge Lodge officiated and about thirty automobile loads of friends and masons from Breckenridge attended. It seems that something had gone wrong with the dynamo and that he had gone around the machine to splice a wire carrying 2, 200 volts of electricity, which had been burned in two. The switch, which should have been opened before touching the wire, was closed, the supposition being that he had looked at the switch in passing, thought it open and had gone about his work. When he was found about five minutes later, he was standing upright, one hand on the wire and when the switch was thrown open, he crumpled to the floor. The company physician worked for three hours, using a pulmotor but to no avail. Funeral services, held at Woodson Church, were conducted by Rev. Boyd of the Methodist Church. The concourse of friends was so great that the building could not accommodate more than one third of them. He was the second oldest son and a young man of sterling worth, marked ability and was anxious to make his mark in the world. He was 25 years of age, a graduate of Breckenridge High School and the A. & M. College of Texas. In private life, he was of a jovial, open-hearted disposition, despising hypocrisy in every form, a loving and dutiful son, honouring his mother, as a son should and being more than a son, a chum, to his father. Also survived by three brothers, Hugh, Alex Jr. and Dewey; two sisters, Myrtle and Katie.
