    It is with feelings of deep regret, that we report the death of another old and highly esteemed resident of Puslinch, in the person of Mrs. Benjamin Chester, who died at her residence on Sunday evening, April 5th 1914. She leaves a large family to mourn her untimely death. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon to the Hespeler Cemetery.

    Notes:

    David Rife from the Sunny Hill Farm and George C. Hammett were the milk peddlers in my early days. And anyone who has seen the amount of washing and scalding being done at Sunny Hill and the clean manner in which milk was there handled and all utensils kept, will realize the effort there made to give Hespeler people good milk. The same at Hammett's I have no doubt although I was never there myself.

    DEATH OF REV. J. W. HAMMETT

    On February 28th the death occurred of Rev. John Wesley Hammett at his home in Newbury after an Illness of a few days. The deceased was in his 75th year.

    Mr. Hammett was born on his father's farm near Hespeler, Ont.. where he lived until he went to Naperville, Ill., to study for the ministry. After graduation he occupied various Evangelical pastorates over a period of some 40 Years. Since his superannuation some four years ago he has lived in Newbury.

    The funeral took place from the home on March 2nd at two o'clock. Rev, Mr. Meyer. of Rodney, had charge of the service and was assisted by Rev. C. E. Qualfe. of Newbury. The sermon was Preached by Rev. J. P. Rauch. of Stratford. Interment took place at Oakland cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends attended the service.

    The deceased is survived by Ida wife, Abblo Miller Hammett: two sons, William, of Montreal, and , Thomas, of Toronto, and a daughter, Mrs. Wave Tully. of Essex.

    A lifelong resident of the township, at his residence in Puslinch Township, on Thursday, December 16, 1948, in his 79th year, following a long illness. Brother of John and William Chester, Mrs. C. J. Brown, Miss Martha Chester, all of Puslinch Township and Mrs. F. Hilborn of Hespeler. Born in Puslinch Township, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Chester. He spent his entire life in this district and was a farmer. He attended the United Missionary Church in Hespeler. Funeral service was held on Sat. , Dec. 18 at 2: 30 from the Stager-Russ Funeral Home on Galt St. in Hespeler. Rev. A. Lucas conducted. Burial took place in Hespeler Cemetery.

    CHESTER, THOMAS

    Word was received of the death of Mr. Chester on Friday evening, September 16, 1932, at his home in Missoula, Montana, in his 61st year. He was born in Puslinch Township, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Chester. He left this district when a young man of 19. His wife, who survives him, was Mary Fyfe Reeve, also a native of this district. Mr. Chester was a conductor on the Northern Pacific Railway. He was an active member of the Masonic Order. Also survived by four sisters and five brothers, Mrs. Charles Gowing of Waterloo Twp. ; Mrs. Francis Hilborn of Preston; Mrs. Charles Brown of Puslinch; Miss Martha Chester of Puslinch Twp. ; Benjamin, Richard, William and John of Puslinch Twp. ; and Edward of Guelph. His body was brought to the home of his brother-in-law, Robert Reeve in Puslinch Twp, whence the funeral took place on Friday at 2, accompanied by Mrs. Chester, her brother, William Reeve of Vancouver and her sister, Miss Elizabeth Reeve of California. Service was conducted by Rev. J. L. Small of St. George, assisted by Rev. T. G. Marshall of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers: John R. Little, William J. Little, John Robertson, John McAllister, Elias Holm and John E. Chester.

    HILBORN, MARY CATHERINE (Nee Chester)

    A member of well-known Hespeler and district families, suddenly, on Thursday, April 3, 1952, at her residence on Hungerford Road, in her 79th year. She was born in Puslinch Township and resided in that locality for many years prior to taking up residence in Hespeler. Her husband, Francis Hilborn, predeceased her in Nov. 1950. She was a member of the United Missionary Church. Surviving are children, Gladys Hilborn of Toronto; Ronald Hilborn of Brantford; Alger Hilborn of Waterloo Township; Charlotte (Mrs. Ross Miller) of New Dundee; Vera Hilborn of Kitchener; Viola and Eliza Hilborn of Hespeler; two sisters, Martha Chester of Hespeler; Mrs. Charles Brown of Puslinch; two brothers, John Chester of Puslinch; William Chester of Hespeler; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The service on Saturday at the Stager-Russ Funeral Home, Galt St., Hespeler at 2: 30 was largely attended. Rev. W. J. Purdy, minister of the United Missionary Church, officiated. Pallbearers: Keith Hilborn, Clarence Hilborn and Russell Hilborn of Preston; James Brown, John Gowing and Norman Chester of Hespeler. Interment Hespeler Cemetery.

    On Wednesday, January 10, 1912 at 2 a. m. , after a few months illness, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Chester of Puslinch Township, at the age of 30 years. Miss Chester was well known, having been a resident of this town (Hespeler) for a short time and was most highly respected. Besides her parents, she is mourned by the following siblings: Benjamin, Thomas, Richard, Eddie, Mrs. Francis Hilborn, Martha, Ethel, Mary and Bertha.     On Sunday morning, February 25, 1934, at her home in Waterloo Township, in her 46th year. Mrs. Charles Gowing had not been in the most robust health and it is said, took a chill at the funeral of the late William H. Gowing a week ago, that resulted in her fatal illness. She was born in Puslinch Township, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Chester. A member of the Mennonite Church, she was well known throughout the district, where she was held in the highest esteem. Surviving are her husband, three sons and a daughter, Albert, John, Benjamin and Florence; four brothers, Albert, John and Benjamin Chester of Puslinch; Edward Chester of Guelph; three sisters, Miss Martha Chester of Puslinch; Mrs. Francis Hilborn of Preston; and Mrs. Charles Brown of Puslinch. Funeral on Tuesday, with a short service at the home at 1: 45, followed by a service at the Mennonite Church at 2: 45. Rev. R. J. Pike, pastor of the Mennonite Church was in charge, assisted by Rev. C. M. Good of Kitchener and Ensign Waters of Guelph. Pallbearers: Norman and James Chester and James Brown of Puslinch; Alger Hilborn, Robert and Bruce Gowing of Preston. Interment Hespeler Cemetery.

    On Monday morning, October 17, 1932, at his home on the 3rd concession of Puslinch Township, after a protracted illness, in his 42nd year. He was born in Puslinch, where he spent practically his entire life, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Chester. Surviving are four sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Charles Gowing of Waterloo Twp. ; Mrs. Francis Hilborn of Preston; Mrs. Charles Brown of Puslinch Township; Miss Martha, at home; Benjamin, William and John in Puslinch Township; and Edward of Guelph. Mr. Chester was not married. Funeral on Wednesday at 2: 30 from his home to Hespeler Cemetery, where Rev. S. C. Cressman of Stouffville conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Bricker and Rev. Russell Pike, pastor of the Mennonite congregation. A large number of friends paid tribute. Pallbearers were nephews: J. Chester, N. Chester, J. Brown, A. Gowing, Alger and Ronald Hilborn.

    Following an illness of some months' duration, a well known resident of the farming community, at his home in Puslinch Township, at an early hour on Saturday morning, October 10th 1942, in his 33rd year. Mr. Chester was born in Puslinch Township on March 22, 1910 and had resided in that area throughout his life. Last spring, he took ill and has not been active on the farm since that time. He returned home this week from St. Joseph's Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment. Husband of Lillian Paddock. Also survived by six children. The funeral, from his residence on the 3rd concession on Tues., Oct. 13 at 2: 30, was attended by a large gathering of friends and relatives. Rev. D. E. Foster of Hespeler, assisted by Rev. D. M.
