    PO. J. M. STECYK

Missing since July 1, 1944, PO. J. M. Stecyk, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Stecyk, 148 Waterloo St., has now been reported as "missing, believed killed" in France, according to unconfirmed information received by the director of records.

A letter received by the officer's parents revealed that he and the other members of his plane crew were buried in a cemetery at St.. Pierre-de-Jards, France, after their bomber exploded and fell to the ground near the town. At that time St. Pierre-de-Jards, near Reuilly, was still in enemy hands, and thus, the letter continued, PO. Stecyk must be considered "missing, believed killed" until a check of the information can be made.

The officer, at the time he was reported missing, was unaware that. he had received his promotion. He had been on constant duty during the two weeks prior to his last flight as an air gunner.

He enlisted in February, 1943, received his training at stations in Manitoba and Quebec, and went overseas ten months later. Born and educated in Kitchener, he was a member of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and formerly em- ployed as a machinist at Sehl Engineering Co.

Four sisters, Nellie, Olga, Mary and Anita, and a brother. Steven, are all living at home with their parents.
