    Notes:

An Aged Resident Answers Final Call
Mr. Henry S. Lang, Who Had Reached Advanced Age of Over Eighty-One, passed away peacefully. The final summons came this morning at an early hour and removed from life's sphere of action one of the oldest and most honored citizens in the person of Mr. Henry S. Lang, of 87 South Cedar street. While Mr. Lang had not been seriously ill for any length of time, his advanced age made it difficult, for some months back, to take his accustomed walks, which covered miles and he was more or less confined to the house. About three weeks ago, his strength failed him and he became weaker, and this morning, he fell asleep in Jesus. Mr. Lang was one of the oldest and best known citizens in Berlin. He was born in Schoenenberg, Rhein-Bayern , Germany, March 18, 1834. He was a son of Carl Lang, and at the age of 18, he came to Canada with Mr. Louis Boehmer. The trip was made by rail to Hamilton, where they secured a team and made the overland trip to Preston. They arrived there September 22, 1853, and their home with Mrs. Kress, a sister of Mr. Lang. Soon after he came to Berlin, securing employment with Mr. Henry Boehmer on a farm two miles from Berlin. While here, he learned the cooper trade, remaining three years. In company with his brother Peter, they secured a farm near Twin Bridges, where they remained three years.
    ESTABLISHED BRICK BUSINESS
In 1875 he established a brick yard on his farm. In 1880 he moved to Bloomingdale, where he continued the brick business for seven years. He later moved to what is now 56-58-60 South...

Gun Discharged As Boy Examined It Causing His Death - Fifteen Year Old Joseph Lang Victim In Kitchener Home; Lived But Three Minutes

Boys Discussing Hunting - Joseph Lang, aged 15, of Esra Ave., Waterloo, was fatally shot last night about 8 o'clock at the home of W.C. Wiegandt, 60 Bingeman Street, when a rifle which he was examining suddenly discharged, the bullet taking a course from the left side just above his collar bone coming out on the opposite side. The lad lived only two or three minutes. Dr. McGregor was summoned but the boy was dead when he arrived. Coroner Kalbfleisch was also called. According to the story told the police young Lange was visiting at the Wiegandt home last evening. He was in the cellar with young Wiegandt aged 14 and apparently the two were discussing a hunting trip with which young Wiegandt had with his father Saturday afternoon. It is believed Lang asked to see the gun and the Wiegandt boy pointed to where the rifle was standing in a corner of the furnace cellar covered over by paper. The Lang boy went to the rifle and taking hold of it started to examine the gun when it exploded, the 22 caliber bullet with which it was loaded passing thru his neck and severing important blood vessels along the route it traveled. Young Lang dropped the gun and walked about eight feet to the cellar steps where he sat down and a moment later collapsed in death. Coroner Kalbfleisch stated he was satisfied the fatality was purely accidental after a thorough investigation. There will be no inquest. Brother Died Recently: (image ends here)
