    John B. Snyder, "was born August 1st, 1848. On February 27th, 1877. he was married to Isabella Cassel They reside a few miles west of Haysville where he is the owner of a beautiful farm. His family consists of five children".

    Snyder.--John B. Snyder was born in Waterloo county, Ont., Aug. 1, 1848 died at his home in Kitchener, Ont., Mar. 20, 1922; aged 73 y. 7 m. 20 d. In 1877 he was married to Isabella Cassel to which union 4 daughters and 2 sons were born, one girl dying in infancy. After his first wife's decease he was married to Lucinda Cressman in 1900. To this union one son was born. He leaves his sorrowing widow, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters, and many friends. Bro. Snyder has been a member of the Mennonite Church for many years, to which he remained faithful till the end. Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, Mar. 23, conducted by the brethren Jonas Snider and Manasseh Hallman. "Gone to his reward."

    Snyder, Zenas, son of the late John and Isabel (Cassel) Snyder, was born near New Hamburg, Ont., Nov. 29, 1877; died at his home in New Hamburg, Aug. 5, 1958; aged 80 y. 8 m. 7 d. In 1900 he married Lavina Cressman, who preceded him in death in 1916. To this union were born 3 children; two died in infancy. One daughter (Arminta-Mrs. Ralph Honsberger, Vineland, Ont.), survives. On Feb. 5, 1919, he married Effie Cressman, who survives. From this union one son and 4 daughters survive (Mildred-Mrs. Jacob Regier, New Hamburg; John, Waterloo; Beulah-Mrs. Willard Cressman and Alice, Vineland; and Nellie-Mrs. Willis Martin, Elmira). Also surviving are one brother and 2 sisters (Oscar, Shoal Lake, Man.; Savilla-Mrs. Edwin Gabel, Kitchener; and Phoebe-Mrs. Walter Hofstetter, Plattsville), 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was a member of the Beihn Church where he rendered faithful service as church chorister, Sunday-school worker, and church trustee. Funeral services were conducted at the Beihn Church, Aug. 9, by Irvin Cressman and Curtis C. Cressman, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    GINGRICH. - Lauretta Rachel, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Snyder, was born in Wilmot Twp., Ont., Aug. 11, 1886; died in the K-W Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Sept. 8, 1945; aged 59 y. 28 d. On June 10, 1917, she was married to Abram S. Gingrich, who survives. She also leaves 3 daughters (Isabel, Mary, and Ruth), one son (John), 2 brothers (Zenas, New Hamburg, Ont.; and Oscar, Shoal Lake, Man.), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Edwin Gable, of Kitchener; and Mrs. Walter Hofstetter, Plattsville, Ont.). She was converted in her youth and united with the Bean congregation. When the family moved into the Breslau district in 1926 she united with the Cressman congregation. She was faithful in church attendance and, though her closing years were attended with much suffering, she unwaveringly retained her faith in her Lord and Saviour. Frequently she expressed her desire to go to her heavenly home. Her wish has now been graciously realized and we believe she is present with Christ, who gave her such an abiding hope and consolation. Funeral services were held at her late home and at the Cressman Church, Sept. 11, by the pastor, Oscar Burkholder. Text, Ps. 23: 4.

    HOFSTETTER MRS. WALTER

    Mrs. Walter Hofstetter, 91, formerly of Plattsville, Ont., died Saturday at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener. The former Phoebe Snyder, she was the daughter of the late John Snyder and Isabel Cassel and was a member of Plattsville United Church.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 1960.

    She is survived by seven sons, Harold, of RR 2 Petersburg, Floyd, of New Hamburg, Harry, John, Layton, and Glenn, all of Plattsville, and Reid, of RR 4 Bright; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Ruby) Ament, of Linwood, and Mrs. Gilbert (Jane) Ross, of Woodstock; 31 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.

    Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Earl; two daughters, Helen and Mrs. Allen (Marjory) Littlejohn; two brothers and two sisters.

    Friends were received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg Chapel until noon, August 4 when removal was made to Plattsville United Church for a funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harold Pillen officiating. Burial was in the Wilmot Centre cemetery.

    Snyder - Clarence Wilfred, son of the late John and Lucinda (Cressman) Synder, passed away at the Freeport Sanitarium after an illness of fifteen months. He was born near New Hamburg, Ont., Aug. 19, 1902, and died May 9, 1938; aged 35 y. 8 m. 20 d. He was a resident of Kitchener, Ont., for the past thirty years. He is survived by his sorrowing wife, 1 daughter and 3 sons (Mary Elizabeth, David, George, and Griffith), all at home; also his aged mother, 2 brothers and 3 sisters (Mrs. Edwin Gabel of Kitchener, Mrs. Abram Gingerich of Bridgeport, Mrs. Walter Hofstetter of Plattsville, Zenas of New Hamburg and Oscar of Manitoba). His father predeceased him him in 1922. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. His unassuming, quiet disposition, and constant interest in the deeper things of life, will not be forgotten by his friends. The funeral and burial was conducted at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, in charge of Bro. C.F. Derstine and Noah Hunsberger. Theme, "The Widows and Fatherless." Text, Jer. 49: 11.

    Surrounded by his family, John passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital at the age of 91.

    HOFSTETTER, Harold

    On Friday, April 5, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Harold resided at RR 2, Petersburg. He was born 85 years ago in Kitchener and was the son of the late Walter and Phoebe (Snyder) Hofstetter. He was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden. Harold was caretaker for 45 years at the Wilmot Centre Cemetery and also volunteered at the Guelph Correctional Centre for many years.

    Beloved husband of the former Melinda Gingerich whom he was married to for 55 years in March. Dear father of Ken and his wife Anna Mae of Kitchener, Nyle and his wife Kathleen, Laurene and her husband Doug Ferguson, all of Baden. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Kevin, Patricia, Tammy, Larry, Brian, Marvin, Suzanne, Sherry and her husband Larry, Michael and Andrew and one great-grandchild, Christine. Loving brother of Ruby Ament of Linwood, Harry and Reta Hofstetter, John and Margaret Hofstetter, Layton and Helen Hofstetter, all of Plattsville, Reed and Eva Hofstetter of Washington and Jean Ross of New Hamburg. Also remembered by a sister-in-law, Edith Hofstetter of Woodstock.

    Harold was predeceased by two great-grandsons; his sisters, Marjory Littlejohns and Helen Hofstetter; brothers, Floyd, Glen and Earl in infancy; brothers-in-law, Floyd Ament, Allen Littlejohns, Gilbert Ross and sisters-in-law, Reta Hofstetter and Lavelda Hofstetter.

    PLATTSVILLE, Sept. 2 - Ill a short time with rheumatic fever, Helen Hobtetter, 18 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hofstetter, died early today at the home of her parents, east of Platteville. Born on Nov, 16, 1920, at Wilmot Centre, she received her public school education at Platteville. Deceased attended the United church and was a member of the Live Wire Sunday school class. Besides her parents there survive seven brothers, Harold of Baden, Floyd and Harry of Platteville, John, Layton, Reed and Glen, all at home, three sisters, (Ruby) Mrs. William F. Ament of Linwood, Marjorie and Jean at home. Private funeral service will be held at her parents home on Monday at 2 p.m. followed by public services at Plattsville United church. Interment will take place in Wilmot Centre Cemetery.

    Passed away peacefully at Sakura House, Woodstock on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, John Hofstetter of Oxford Gardens, Woodstock and formerly of Plattsville, in his 89th year. He is the much loved father of Gerald and Jane Hofstetter, Mary Ella (late Bill 2010) Pettigrew, Ferne and Donald Woolcott, Richard and Sheila Hofstetter, Cecil and Cathy Hofstetter, Laurie and Clare Robinson and stepfather of Jim and Jane Bell, Ross and Kathy Bell, Pat and Gord Hall, and Bruce and Lynn Bell. Lovingly remembered by sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren. Survived by his brothers, Harry, Layton (Helen), Reid (Eva), sister Jean Ross, and sisters-in-law Ivy Musselman and Dorothy Shantz. Predeceased by his wives Reta (Wanner) (1987) and Margaret (Bell) (2010) and by his brothers and sisters, Harold, Ruby, Floyd, Earl, Marjorie, Helen, and Glenn. John was born on the farm outside of Plattsville where he lived, farmed, and retired until he moved to Woodstock in 2010. His family, church and community were his greatest pleasures. Over the years, he served first as a director, then as an insurance agent for the North Blenheim Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. He was a member of Grace United Church, Roseville where he attended faithfully. His involvement in both the local and provincial plowing matches provided much pride and pleasure. He was an honorary director of the Ontario Plowmen's Association. The Plattsville Masonic Lodge No. 178 and the Thames Valley Chapter No. 199 Order of the Eastern Star played a vital role in John's life. He served his community through his involvement in many organizations and on municipal government with the Blenheim Township and Oxford County councils. Friends and family are invited to visit with John's family at the Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William Street, Plattsville, on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 2: 00 p.m. - 4: 00 p.m. and 7: 00 p.m. - 9: 00 p.m. A Service of Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11: 00 a.m. at the Peace United Church, Plattsville.     Reid farmed, ran his own business for 20 years as an Interior/Exterior Decorator before moving on to be a Foreman with Waterloo Metal Stamping until his retirement. Reid joined the Plattsville Masonic Lodge on April 9, 1965 where he served as Master of the Lodge and then was granted the Honour of "Life Member" in 2009. Reid was a past member of the Plattsville Curling Club and he loved to go camping with his family, to dance and spend time watching his grandchildren play hockey and baseball. He simply loved all of his family. Everyone also remembers his smile and the twinkle in his eye, oh and not to mention that he loved a good joke!

    BRUBACHER, Vernon Snyder Passed away at Innisfree House in Kitchener on January 23, 2019, age 90 years. Vernon was born in Wilmot Township on January 27, 1928, the son of Abner and Arminta (Snyder) Brubacher. He is survived by his wife Eva, whom he married on August 2, 1956, their three children, Jeff Brubacher (Sandi Li) of Vancouver, BC; Doug Brubacher (Pamela Power) of Ottawa, ON; and Jan Brubacher (John Francois Beylard) of Tofino, BC; and their six grandchildren, Jasmine, Julian, Jennifer, Kate, Neil and Lucie. Also surviving are his siblings, Marjorie Jackson (Joe), Lewis (Lois), Lloyd (Edelene), Eva Good (Jim) and one step-sibling, Hugh Honsberger (Zoe). He was predeceased by his parents Abner Brubacher (d. 1942) and Arminta (Brubacher) Honsberger (d. 1996), his sisters Agnes (d. 1930), Eileen (d. 1936), Mary (d. 1986), Dorothy Snyder (d. 2013), his stepfather Ralph Honsberger (d. 1996) and step-siblings Charlotte Romagnoli, Madeline Thomson, Keith Honsberger, Joan (Liz) Jahncke, and Margaret Chester. After graduation from grade eight, Vernon worked at home on the farm where he was born. In 1945, some two years after his father's death, the family moved to Vineland Station where, for five years, Vernon worked in a greenhouse operation to provide income and housing for the family. In 1952, after his mother married Ralph Honsberger, Vernon went back to school. He graduated from Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in 1953 and from Waterloo College (now Wilfrid Laurier University) in 1957. Vernon entered the teaching profession that year. He taught at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate for five years; then studied at Goshen Biblical Seminary, Indiana from which he graduated in 1965. Then Vernon returned to Ontario and taught at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School until his retirement in 1987. He was actively involved in church and community, serving on various boards and committees including Wilmot Seniors Woodworking & Craft Club, New Hamburg Thrift Centre Board, Mennonite Historical Society of Ontario, Conrad Grebel University College, Mennonite Central Committee Canada, Rockway Mennonite Collegiate, and Mennonite Historical Society of Canada. Vernon was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church in New Hamburg, where he served as assistant pastor (1965-1968). He also served as interim pastor at Hunta Mennonite Church, Hunta, ON for two years (1990-1992). Vernon had a love of travel, a characteristic that he passed on to his children. When their children were young Vernon and his wife Eva took them on numerous camping trips in Ontario, the Maritimes, northeastern United States and the west coast. Following retirement, Vernon and Eva travelled to India and Nepal, Europe, the Middle East, Haiti and to communities across Labrador. They often travelled to visit their children and grandchildren in Ottawa, ON, and in Vancouver and Tofino, BC. Visitation will be at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 1 - 3 and 6 - 8 p.m. A funeral service and reception will be held at Hillcrest Mennonite Church on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. A private interment service will be held at Nith Valley Mennonite Church Cemetery. She leaves sorrowing parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters, 1 sister having predeceased her six years ago. Our hearts are made sad since the Lord claimed this jewel but we are resigned to His will. Funeral services on June 18 at her parents' home near New Hamburg, Ont., and at the Beihn Mennonite Church, conducted by Brethren M. H. Roth and Curtis C. Cressman.

    FRITZ, June It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family of June Fritz (nee Ament) share the news of her passing. June went peacefully in her sleep at the age of 74, following a lengthy battle with cancer on Friday, April 21, 2017. She will be deeply missed by daughter Shelley Fritz, Grandson Jake Bailey (Brooke), her sisters and brothers Joyce Barrass (Alan), Jeanet Martin (Tom), Bill Ament (Pat) and Keith Ament (Ellen) as well as her many nieces and nephews. June was a very private person who lived life on her own terms yet she never hesitated to help someone if it was within her power to do so. June was a source of love, support and strength and her passing has left a huge void in our lives. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her family and close friends that she's left behind. At June's request there will be no funeral or memorial services. For anyone wanting to make a donation in her memory please contact the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
