He was truly an exalted craftsman and he honed his skills as a problem-solver by successfully completing many complex projects. Clare had a special passion for building boats. His first vessels, made in the 1930s out of Coca Cola signs, were launched in the Bridgeport dam reservoir. Subsequent vessels were more seaworthy. His pride and joy was a 28 foot aluminum-hulled cabin cruiser complete with Volvo inboard/ outboard engine which he built from scratch in the early 1970s. Clare founded Parkway Manufacturing Limited in 1959. With the support of Margaret and help from their three sons they developed the Company into a very successful business building patterns, moulds and tooling for the plastics industry. Clients included Admiral International, the Coleman Company, Boeing, Bauer Industries and Perstorp Components. Clare retired when he and Margaret sold the Company in 1993. Clare was a gentleman in the truest sense. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place.
