    Notes:

    Snyder, Zenas, son of the late John and Isabel (Cassel) Snyder, was born near New Hamburg, Ont., Nov. 29, 1877; died at his home in New Hamburg, Aug. 5, 1958; aged 80 y. 8 m. 7 d. In 1900 he married Lavina Cressman, who preceded him in death in 1916. To this union were born 3 children; two died in infancy. One daughter (Arminta-Mrs. Ralph Honsberger, Vineland, Ont.), survives. On Feb. 5, 1919, he married Effie Cressman, who survives. From this union one son and 4 daughters survive (Mildred-Mrs. Jacob Regier, New Hamburg; John, Waterloo; Beulah-Mrs. Willard Cressman and Alice, Vineland; and Nellie-Mrs. Willis Martin, Elmira). Also surviving are one brother and 2 sisters (Oscar, Shoal Lake, Man.; Savilla-Mrs. Edwin Gabel, Kitchener; and Phoebe-Mrs. Walter Hofstetter, Plattsville), 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was a member of the Beihn Church where he rendered faithful service as church chorister, Sunday-school worker, and church trustee. Funeral services were conducted at the Beihn Church, Aug. 9, by Irvin Cressman and Curtis C. Cressman, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    JOHN SNYDER 1921-2009 Passed away at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at age 88. Beloved husband of Irene for 58 years; loved father of Stephen, and Anne; loving grandfather of Julianne and Kalinda; dear brother of Buelah Cressman (Willard), Alice Snyder, and Nellie Martin (Willis), and a brother-in-law of Jake Regier. Predeceased by sisters, Arminta Hunsberger and Mildred Regier. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held in the chapel of the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. Condolences for the family and donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre may be arranged through the Funeral Home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.     BRUBACHER, Vernon Snyder Passed away at Innisfree House in Kitchener on January 23, 2019, age 90 years. Vernon was born in Wilmot Township on January 27, 1928, the son of Abner and Arminta (Snyder) Brubacher. He is survived by his wife Eva, whom he married on August 2, 1956, their three children, Jeff Brubacher (Sandi Li) of Vancouver, BC; Doug Brubacher (Pamela Power) of Ottawa, ON; and Jan Brubacher (John Francois Beylard) of Tofino, BC; and their six grandchildren, Jasmine, Julian, Jennifer, Kate, Neil and Lucie. Also surviving are his siblings, Marjorie Jackson (Joe), Lewis (Lois), Lloyd (Edelene), Eva Good (Jim) and one step-sibling, Hugh Honsberger (Zoe). He was predeceased by his parents Abner Brubacher (d. 1942) and Arminta (Brubacher) Honsberger (d. 1996), his sisters Agnes (d. 1930), Eileen (d. 1936), Mary (d. 1986), Dorothy Snyder (d. 2013), his stepfather Ralph Honsberger (d. 1996) and step-siblings Charlotte Romagnoli, Madeline Thomson, Keith Honsberger, Joan (Liz) Jahncke, and Margaret Chester. After graduation from grade eight, Vernon worked at home on the farm where he was born. In 1945, some two years after his father's death, the family moved to Vineland Station where, for five years, Vernon worked in a greenhouse operation to provide income and housing for the family. In 1952, after his mother married Ralph Honsberger, Vernon went back to school. He graduated from Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in 1953 and from Waterloo College (now Wilfrid Laurier University) in 1957. Vernon entered the teaching profession that year. He taught at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate for five years; then studied at Goshen Biblical Seminary, Indiana from which he graduated in 1965. Then Vernon returned to Ontario and taught at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School until his retirement in 1987. He was actively involved in church and community, serving on various boards and committees including Wilmot Seniors Woodworking & Craft Club, New Hamburg Thrift Centre Board, Mennonite Historical Society of Ontario, Conrad Grebel University College, Mennonite Central Committee Canada, Rockway Mennonite Collegiate, and Mennonite Historical Society of Canada. Vernon was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church in New Hamburg, where he served as assistant pastor (1965-1968). He also served as interim pastor at Hunta Mennonite Church, Hunta, ON for two years (1990-1992). Vernon had a love of travel, a characteristic that he passed on to his children. When their children were young Vernon and his wife Eva took them on numerous camping trips in Ontario, the Maritimes, northeastern United States and the west coast. Following retirement, Vernon and Eva travelled to India and Nepal, Europe, the Middle East, Haiti and to communities across Labrador. They often travelled to visit their children and grandchildren in Ottawa, ON, and in Vancouver and Tofino, BC. Visitation will be at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 1 - 3 and 6 - 8 p.m. A funeral service and reception will be held at Hillcrest Mennonite Church on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. A private interment service will be held at Nith Valley Mennonite Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to MCC, Nithview Home, or a charity of one's choice.

    BRUBACHER. Agnes Lorene, only daughter of Abner and Arminta Snyder Brubacher, was born near New Hamburg, Ont., July 5, 1929; died Jan. 13, 1930. She leaves besides her parents, one brother (Vernon), 3 uncles, 7 aunts, 2 grandfathers, and 1 grandmother. One grandmother (Lavina Snyder) preceded her in death. She suffered only a few days from grippe. Funeral services were held at the house by Osias Cressman and at Biehn's church by Curtis Cressman. Text, II Sam. 12: 23. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

    Died - Mr. and Mrs. Abner Brubacher have the sympathy of the community in the death of their 6 months old daughter, Agnes, who died on Sunday last after a few days illness from an attack of pneumonia. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from their residence in Wilmot to Bean's Church and Cemetery.

    Brubacher.-- Ada Eileen, daughter of Abner and Arminta (Snyder) Brubacher, died June 15, 1936; aged 11 months. Death was due to complications following whooping cough. She leaves sorrowing parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters, 1 sister having predeceased her six years ago. Our hearts are made sad since the Lord claimed this jewel but we are resigned to His will. Funeral services on June 18 at her parents' home near New Hamburg, Ont., and at the Beihn Mennonite Church, conducted by Brethren M. H. Roth and Curtis C. Cressman.
