    Jacob E. Bowers, "the second son of Cyrus and Elizabeth (Eby) Bowers, was born October 10th, 1841. He spent his boyhood days on the farm, near Berlin, Ontario. After having acquired a fair common school education at home, he entered the Toronto University, choosing the Arts Course, from which in due course of time, he graduated with honors, the faculty conferring upon him the degree of B. A. He afterwards entered the Michigan University, at Ann Arbor, choosing the Medical Course. After his graduation from Michigan University, at which he stood a very creditable examination, he located at St. Peter, Minnesota, having been appointed Superintendent of the Insane Asylum at that place. From here he went to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he enjoyed a very lucrative practice. From here, after the decease of his father-in-law, Mr. Walbank, he moved to Duluth, Minnesota, where he is having an extensive practice in his profession. He is married to Kate Walbank and has had a family of two children, both of which died in infancy."
