    Bender, John Y., son of the late Daniel H. and Magdalena (Yantzi) Bender, was born in East Zorra Twp., Ont., Apr. 20, 1892; died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Jan. 16, 1969; aged 76 y. 8 m. 27 d. On June 20, 1918, he was married to Mary Jantzi, who died Jan. 4, 1953. Surviving are one son (Daniel), 3 daughters (Elfrieda - Mrs. Rudy Steinman, Laura - Mrs. Willis Lichty, and Selma - Mrs. Nelson Roth), 11 grandchildren, one brother (Allan), and one sister (Elizabeth - Mrs. Nicholas Kuepfer). He was preceded in death by 3 sisters. He was a member of the Maple View Church, Wellesley, Ont., where funeral services were held Jan. 19, with Chris O. Erb and Alvin Leis officiating.

    John I. Bender

    John I. Bender of 61 Brewery St., Baden, formerly of Kingwood, died today at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, after a brief illness. He was 76.

    Born in East Zorra Township April 20, 1892, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel H. Bender. He farmed near Kingwood, retiring to Baden in October, 1952. He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley.

    His wife; the former Mary Jantzi predeceased him Jan. 4, 1953. He was also predeceased by three sisters.

    Surviving are one son, Daniel of Wellesley and three daughters, Mrs. Rudy (Elfrieda) Steinman, Mrs. Nelson (Selma) Roth, both of RR 2, New Hamburg and Mrs. Willis (Laura) Lichti of RR 1, New Hamburg. Also surviving is a brother, Rev. Allan Bender of Wellesley and a sister, Mrs. Nicholas (Elizabeth) Kuepfer of Millbank. There are 11 grandchildren.

    Funeral service was held at Maple View Mennonite Church on Sunday. Burial took place in the church cemetery.

    Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley was in charge of arrangements.

She was born 86 years ago in Wellesley Township and was the daughter of the late John I. and Mary (Jantzi) Bender. Beloved wife of 67 years of Nelson H. Roth. Dear mother of Ralph and wife Margaret Roth of Tavistock, Renee Schmidt of Wellesley and John Schmidt of Listowel and Rudolph (Rudy) Roth of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Randall and Carrie Roth, Rosalee and Brent van Staalduinen, Russell Roth, Ryan and Melissa Roth, Andrea Schmidt and Brian Thomas, Melanie and Jeffrey Hall and her great-grandchildren Benjamin Roth and Kayle Roth.

    Remembered by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Florence Baechler, Harvey and Hilda Roth, Wallace and Betty Roth, Viola and David Brubacher, Earlus and Delores Roth. Selma was predeceased by her sisters Elfrieda and husband Rudy Steinman, Laura and husband Willis Lichti, brother Dan and wife Agnes Bender, brothers-in-law Earl Baechler, Raymond and wife Clara Roth, sisters-in-law Olive Roth, Teresa Soroka, nephew William Lichti, niece Marlene Baechler and nephew-in-law Ronnie Benedict. Selma was a member of Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. The interment will take place on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Cemetery, Baden. The funeral service to celebrate Selma's life will follow at 3 p.m. at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg with Pastor Marshall Eizenga officiating. Dan was born in Kitchener 78 years ago. Son of the late John I. Bender and the late Mary Jantzi. He was a member of the Wellesley Mennonite Church and farmed near Kingwood, coming to Wellesley in 1966. He was also employed at the Grand River Hospital from 1968 to 1992.Beloved husband of the late Agnes L. (Roi) Bender, who predeceased him December 8, 2003. Dear father of Stan Bender and his friend Dana of Kitchener, Nancy and her husband Ray Haarsma of Petersburg, Steven and his wife Chris Bender of Wellesley, Carol and her husband Dan Soucy of Kitchener and Paul Bender of Wellesley. Loving brother of Selma and Nelson Roth of New Hamburg.
