    DOUGLAS WALLACE TRUSSLER

    Douglas Wallace Trussler of Kitchener passed peacefully on Monday July 11th at University Gates LTC, Waterloo. He is mourned by his wife of 75 years Elizabeth Mae (nee Wagler), children D. Scott Trussler (Karen), June Mary Sage, and Dianne Judith Trussler (Brent Heard), grandchildren Aaron deBoer (Raquel), Adam deBoer, Alison Sage (Armando), Lia Privat (Trent), Joel Trussler (Karen), Samuel Trussler (Brittany) and six great grandchildren Logan, Ethan, Claire, Emma, Hayden and Ivy. Doug was predeceased by his parents Oliver Samuel and Minnie L. Trussler, and by his siblings Oliver (Sonny) Trussler and Bette Elaine Wagler.

    After enlisting in 1941, Doug served his country during the Second World War with the Highland Light Infantry and landed at Normandy, France on D Day, June 6, 1944. He drove a Bren Gun Carrier as the Allies progressed through France and Belgium and liberated Holland. Following his discharge from the Canadian forces in 1946, Doug owned and operated, along with his father and brother, Trussler's Esso on King St. in Kitchener until its closure in 1980. Subsequently Doug worked for Mutual Life (now Sunlife) for several years. After retiring Doug continued to enjoyed weekly breakfasts with his long-time friends. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Lake Nipissing and salmon fishing on Lake Ontario. Douglas was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his good nature.

    Doug's family wishes to thank the staffs of Trinity Village Retirement Studios and University Gates L.T.C. for the professional and compassionate care that Douglas enjoyed over the past few years. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Royal Canadian Legion Branch #50 would be appreciated and may be submitted to Memory Gardens, 2723 Victoria St. N., P.O. Box 67, Breslau, ON N0B 1M0.

    A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens on Friday July 15th at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Chapel.
