In 1858 they moved on the old 'Burkholder Farm' one mile north of the town of Waterloo, where they resided until October 14th, 1875, when they moved to Woolwich Township, one mile north of Floradale. Here they still reside. Their family consisted of seven children"'

Funeral of One of County's Pioneers

Elmira, April 22. - The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon of Mrs. Jesse Snyder. A service was held at the home of Mrs. Lehnen, Kitchener, after which the remains were taken to Zion church, Elmira. Interment followed in the Elmira Union cemetery. Rev. J. P. Hauch of Kitchener conducted the service in the absence of Rev. Mr. Brown of this town. The deceased was 82 years of age. She and the late husband, for over 45 years had resided on the homestead near Floradale and previously on a farm north of Waterloo. In 1901 they removed to Floradale. The husband passed away two years later. During the last fourteen years Mrs. Snyder had resided with her daughter, Mrs. Lehnen of Kitchener. Previous to her marriage she was known by the name of Susannah Burkholder. The children who survive are: Albert of Glenallen; Edward, who lives on the old homestead; Addison B., of Elmira, Jesse of Floradale; Mrs. Albert Lehnen and Mrs. Joseph Shantz of Kitchener. Twenty-three grand children and 5 great grandchildren are numbered among her descendants. Mrs. Snyder's brothers predeceased her but her three sisters survive. These are Mrs. Henry Erb, of Bridgeport; Mrs. Eliza Bricker of Yale, Michigan, and Mrs. Amos Erb, also of Michigan.

FORMER GLENALLAN MERCHANT IS DEAD
MR. A.B. SNYDER PASSED AWAY IN KITCHENER ON FRIDAY LAST
In the death of A.B. Snyder, which occurred in Kitchener last Friday night, one who had been closely associated with this countryside for many years passed away. The late Mr. Snyder suffered a stroke about three weeks ago, and again about three days before his death, the paralysis being due to hardening of the arteries.
The late Mr. Snyder was born near Waterloo sixty-two years ago. On his marriage to Miss Louisa Ruggle, sister of Mr. A. J. Ruggle of Floradale, he went to the state of Kansas and took up farming. On his return to this country he took a position in Mr. Ruggle's store at Floradale. Later he purchased a general store at Glenallan and for fifteen years he carried on business there where he was most favorably known to the entire community.
About a year and a half ago he moved to Kitchener to live in retirement, and here he resided until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, but no children. There are two sisters and two brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Albert Lehman of Kitchener, and Mrs. Joseph Shantz of Kitchener. The brothers are Messrs. Edward and J. B. Snyder, both of Floradale, and Addison of Didsbury, Saskatchewan.
The funeral took place on Monday last from Kitchener to Elmira. Interment taking place in the Elmira cemetery.

The death occurred of the late Edward B. Snyder at his home near Floradale last Thursday, following a lingering illness. He was born near Waterloo, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Snyder. After his marriage to Elizabeth Schneider in 1894, he took up farming near Floradale. Surviving are his widow, four sons, Lloyd on the home farm, George of Montreal, Walter of Manheim and Howard of Bloomingdale, five daughters, Viola, Mrs. Irvin Mohr of North East Hope, Irla, Mrs. Orville Shantz of St. George, Nellie, Mrs. Amos Shoemaker of Kitchener, Vera, Mrs. Clayton Mohr of Philipsburg and Myrtle, Mrs. Eldon Kreuger of Kitchener, two brothers, Addison Snyder of Elmira, Jesse Snyder of Floradale, two sisters, Mrs. Susan Lehnan and Mrs. Martha Shantz, both of Kitchener, 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon with a short service at the house to the Floradale Evangelical church for services and burial was made in the Elmira cemetery. Rev. E. N. Mohr of Elmira and Rev. G. F. Barthel of Kitchener were in charge of the service. A very large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral.

Elmira - July 19, Addison B. Snyder died at the Elmira Private Hospital, Saturday a.m. after a short illness at the age 82 years.

A son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Jesse Snyder of Waterloo, Mr. Snyder was born May 28, 1866. He married Elizabeth Ann Weber who predeceased him in Jan. 1936.

In 1941 he married Helen Schwartz, who survives with two sons, Arthur D. Snyder of Woodbridge and Wilfred W. Snyder of Didsbury, Alta; one daughter Mrs. U. B. (Laura) Dengis of Buffalo, N. Y.; one brother, Jesse B. Snyder of Floradale; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Tues afternoon 2: 30 p.m., Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church, Elmira. Rev. A. E. Pletch and Rev. E. M. Gishler will conduct the services. Interment will be made at the Elmira Cemetery. The body will rest at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor until Tues. afternoon, 1 p.m. o'clock when removal will be made to the church. Friends are requested to pay their respects prior to the service.

Born in Floradale, son of the late Edward Snyder and Elizabeth (nee) Schneider.

Beloved husband of the late Adeline (nee) Kreuger. Loving father of Rev. Lynn, PhD. of Mount Vernon, Ind. and Grant and Sandy of Kitchener; special grandpa to Cindy. Debbie and Brenda. all of Indiana, Kelly of Kitchener and Mark of Victoria B.C. Walter is survived by one sister, Myrtle Kreuger of Kitchener and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Snyder of Kitchener and Roberta Snyder of Elmira.

Walter was predeceased by brothers, Lloyd, George and Howard and sisters. Viola Mohr. Nellie Shoemaker. Vera Mohr and Erla Shantz.

Walter was a lifetime member at Calvary Memorial United Church and the Victory Class. Walter farmed near Mannheim for 25 years and worked at Canadian Blower and Forge (Howden Fan) for 20 years, retiring in 1973. Walter enjoyed his retirement travelling around the world.

Visitation will be held at the Edward R. SHANTZ, Rev. Ward M. - Peacefully, went home to be with his Lord at Emmanuel Village on Friday, August 21, 2009. Rev. Ward Montford Shantz, aged 98 years. 43 years of his life were devoted to active ministry in the Evangelical Missionary Church. When he entered the ministry in 1933 he served as the pastor at Alymer Missionary Church, Toronto and Gormley Churches. In 1943 he became the founding Principal of Emmanuel Bible College, and served in this capacity for the next 10 years. Rev. Shantz had B.A. and B.D. degrees from The University of Western Ontario, a B.Th. from Marion College, Indiana and a M.A. degree from Winona Lake School of Theology, Indiana. Ward was elected Vice General Superintendent for the United Missionary Church for North America in 1955 and continued in this office until the merger with the Missionary Church in 1969. He served the Ontario District as district superintendent from June 1953 - June 1970. He then moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he became the assistant director of overseas missions for the Missionary Church at the denominational headquarters. Upon his retirement in 1976, he returned to Kitchener. His final years were happily spent at Emmanuel Village Residence. Beloved father to Dr. David and his wife Dr. Carolyn Shantz of Ortonville, Michigan, and Marion and her husband Ray Houlding of Kitchener. Loving grandpa to Catherine Smith and her husband Jay, Dr. Cynthia Shantz and her husband Gregg Walker, Meredith King and her husband Derrick, and Jason Houlding and his wife Brandi. Third K-W Area Man in 2 Weeks Dies From Fall

Ralph Mohr, 44, Tumbles 12 Feet At St. Mary's High School Project

A 44-year-old Kitchener man was killed last night in a fall, the third K-W area man to die in such a manner in two weeks. Ralph Mohr a cement finisher on The St. Mary's High School building project was the third. He tumbled 12 feet to his death while spreading a tarpaulin last night. Other two local men to die as a result of falls were Edwin A. Dotzert, 67, of 83 Dorset St., Waterloo; and Lloyd G. Beisel, 42, of 135 Guelph St., Bridgeport.

SECOND VIOLENT DEATH

Mr. Mohr was the second member of the Mohr family to die violently. A brother, Ross Mohr, drowned at Port Rowan seven years ago. Mr. Mohr, an employee of Oscar Wiles and Sons, Ltd., was helping Arthur and Donald Wiles, sons of the company owner, to spread a tarpaulin over recently finished work because of rain. "No one apparently saw him tumble but I saw him hit the cement floor head-first" Arthur Wiles said. "An ambulance crewman said he detected a faint pulse but he must have died a few moments later," he added. It was Mr. Mohr's job to check on cement laid each day and to cover newly laid areas in case of rain. He had been an employee of the company for four years. A bachelor, he lived at 260 King St. East.

TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

His body was taken to K-W Hospital, where a postmortem was conducted today. Surviving are five brothers, Robert of Stratford. Clifford and Willard of North Easthope, Alfred of St. Jacobs and Gerald of Stratford; and four sisters, Mrs.; Mahlon Ruby and Mrs, Howard Herold, both of RR 1, Shakespeare, Mrs. Fred Rose of Walton, and Mrs. Earl Tieman of RR 1, Tavistock: His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Mohr of North Easthope Township. Mr. Mohr was born July 21, 1916, in North Easthope. He served overseas during the Second World War. The body will be at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, after 9 o'clock tonight. The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2: 30 p.m, with Rev. John M. Zimmerman of St. Mark's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be In the Evangelical United Brethren-Cemetery, Oetzel.

Mrs. Mahlon Ruby, 49, of 58 John Street, Tavistock, died Saturday afternoon at Stratford General Hospital where she had been a patient four weeks.

She was the former Ruby Mildred Mohr, and was born in North Easthope Township on Jan. 1, 1920, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Mohr. She was married to Mr. Ruby in 1939, and had resided in South Easthope Township until coming to Tavistock a year ago. Mrs. Ruby was a member of the Tavistock Mennonite Church.

Besides her husband she is survived by three sons, Howard, Fred and Carl, all of Tavistock; five brothers, Robert Mohr, RR 4 Stratford; Clifford Mohr and Willard Mohr, both of RR 1 New Hamburg; Alfred Mohr, St. Jacobs; and Gerald Mohr, 76 Waddell St., Stratford; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Verna) Herold, RR 1 Shakespeare, and Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Tiemens, Tavistock. There is one granddaughter, Kim Ruby, Tavistock. One son, Verle, died in 1967.

Funeral service was held at the Tavistock Mennonite Church on Tuesday with burial in the East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line.

She was born in North Easthope township 68 years ago, a daughter of the late Irvin Mohr and Viola Snyder.

Loving mother of Jean and her husband Henry VanderHayden of Monkton, Edward and his wife Colleen of Tavistock, Susan and her husband Jeff Wagner of Tavistock and Sharon and her husband Dick Lupton of RR 3, Stratford. Sadly missed by her grandchildren, Derek and Nicole, Kyle and Calvin, Melissa and Angie, Fraser and Mackenzie; dear sister of Clifford and his wife Mae of Tavistock, Willard of RR 1, New Hamburg, Alfred and his wife Phyllis of St. Jacobs, Gerald and his wife Elaine of Stratford and Verna Herold of RR 1, Shakespeare. Ross Mohr Drowned In Long Point Bay

Ross Mohr, 22-year-old North Easthope farmer, drowned in Long Point Bay near Port Rowan on Wednesday afternoon when he fell into the water from a fishing launch while making a cast. Mr. Mohr was with a party of nine men on a fishing trip and it is said he was standing on the seat of the launch when he tried to cast. His companions dove for more than an hour before recovering the body in 10 feet of water. All attempts to revive him failed. In the boat with Mohr when the accident occurred were Nelson Schmidt, Francis Hartleib, Howard Herold, Wilfred Martz and Don Brenneman, all of the Shakespeare district and Roy Bricker and Don Currah of Tavistock, and the guide, Stepher Rohrer of Port Rowan. The body was brought to the Futher-Omand Funeral Home here. Coroner Dr. 0. A. Archibald of Port Rowan, who investigated the drowning, said an inquest was unlikely. The unfortunate victim was well known in New Hamburg and district. He was a son of Mrs. Irvin Mohr and the late Mr. Mohr and was born in 1930 in North Easthope. He had attended Burnside school and was a member of Oetzels Evangelical United Brethren Church. Some time ago he purchased the Ephraim Mohr farm in North Easthope where he resided. He was unmarried. Surviving besides his mother are six brothers, Ralph, of Durham; Robert of South Easthope; Alfred of Kitchener; Clifford and Willard of North Easthope; and Gerald, Shakespeare; four sisters, Mrs. Mahlon (Ruby) Ruby and Mrs. Howard (Verna) Herold, R.R. 1, Shakespeare; Mrs. Fred (Mabel) Rose, of North Easthope, and Miss Dorothy, of Stratford, and his grandmother. Mrs. Ed. Snyder of Floradale. His father died about seven years ago. The body will be at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home until Saturday noon when removal will be made to Oetzels Ev. U.B. Church where a memorial service will be held at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. Bruce Amy will be in charge of the service and interment will be in Oetzels Cemetery.

SOEHNER, John D. Passed away after a gallant struggle with many health issues on Monday, May 17, 2010 in his 71st year. John Soehner of Elmira is the beloved husband for 45 years of Gael Soehner (nee Matthews); loved father of Heather Uttley and her husband Steve, Chris (Skip), and Jody and his wife Jenny all of Elmira; devoted grandfather of Kyle and Alexander Uttley, Phebe Fritz-Soehner, Danny and Desi Soehner; dear brother of Gladys Archibald of Alma and Ruth-Ann Rae of Waterloo. Also lovingly remembered by his motherin- law Pearl Matthews of Loring, Ontario. Predeceased by his parents Gertrude and Clarence Soehner of Floradale. John was the owner/ operator of C.H. Soehner Insurance for over 45 years. He was a charter member of the Elmira Kiwanis Club and was still very active with the club. Throughout his life he was an avid supporter in many ways of minor hockey in Elmira/Woolwich.
