SCHMALZ, Thomas Joseph Englebert Francis - Passed away peacefully, surrounded in love by his family, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Friday, August 14, 2009, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Daly) Schmalz for 57 years. Loving father of Debra Lou, his "Little Angel in Heaven", (June 28, 1953), Wayne (Linda) of Dorchester, Dave (Sue) of Tillsonburg, Brian (Phyllis), Kevin (Jo Ann), Laurie Kaufman (Steve), all of Kitchener and Karen Rossetti (Fabio) of Etobicoke. Cherished Bappy to Brianna, Ryan, Lindsay, Hayley, Melissa, Kassy, Alanna, Lauren, Madison, Curtis, Patrice, Zeke, Hilary, Shannon, Olivia, Joshua, and Selena. Dear brother to Anne Schmalz of Kitchener, George (Anita) of New Hamburg and brother-in-law of John Robinson (Lois Freeman) of Burlington. Also survived by his siblings-in-law, Ross Daly (Mary) of Watford, Elaine Kramer (George) of Kitchener and Joyce Daly of Oshawa. Loved uncle to many nieces and nephews; and lifetime friend to many. Predeceased by his parents, John Albert and Ludwina (nee Hoffarth); brother, Robert; sister, Bette Robinson; and brother-in-law, Ken Daly. Tom was the District Sales Manager for a National Distiller for 15 years and retired in 1999 as Manager of Laidlaw Compact Division (Ontario). As a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1504, and 4th Degree Knight, Tom served as Faithful Navigator. In addition, Tom was the Knights of Columbus Representative to St. Agatha Children's Village. He served as a Trustee on the Waterloo Roman Catholic District School Board, a Governor of St. Jerome's/St. Mary's High School Board, a Member of the City of Kitchener Beautification Committee and International Fire Safety Ambassador. Tom's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467, www.henrywalser.com Parish prayers 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon and Knights of Columbus prayers 6: 30 p.m. Sunday evening. Prayers will be offered in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 9: 20 a.m. followed by procession to St. Mary's RC Church, 56 Duke St. W., Kitchener, for Tom's Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Fr. Terry McGuire and Fr. Bernie Hayes concelebrating. Interment at Woodland Cemetery followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus, 110 Manitou Dr., Kitchener. Special thanks to Doctors Mutrie, Ho, Strban, Moolman, Jones, the staff at Conestoga Lodge, PRO RESP and Palliative Care Unit, Union Terrace - Freeport Hospital, CCAC for all their loving and compassionate care.
