    C. Leslie Vincent, Leading Ayr Citizen

    A well-known retired Ayr businessman, and former district farmer, Charles Leslie Vincent passed away in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt, on Tuesday morning. He was in his 74th year. Mr. Vincent had been hospitalised for a week following a coronary attack, and his demise resulted from a second seizure. Active in Community Centre Project One of Ayr's outstanding public-spirited citizens, Mr. Vincent was identified with many worthwhile projects. He was one of the most active members of the building committee when the Ayr Community Centre was erected in 1948, and was also on its original trustee board.

    Owned Implement Business 30 Years


    Mr. Vincent was one of the village's senior businessmen, operating a farm implement business here for 30 years, until retiring two years ago. Moved to District 50 Years Ago Born on his parents' farm in East Zorra Township, he was a son of the late Charles Vincent and Mary Jane Cowing. He moved to this district in 1906, where he farmed on the 9th concession of Blenheim on the land now owned by Donald Robson.

    Farmed in South Dumfries 40 Years

    A year later he moved to the farm on the 6th concession of South Dumfries now owned by James Buck, where he was a successful farmer for 40 years. During this period he established the implement business in Ayr, and moved here eight years ago to devote his entire time to it. Upon his retirement it came into the hands of his two sons, but Mr. Vincent retained a keen interest in its welfare.

    Noted Plowman

    As a farmer Mr. Vincent developed extraordinary skill with the plow and was among the leading competitors in plowing matches in the district. He was one of the early members of the North Dumfries Plowmen's Association, and his service to the organisation was rewarded with an appointment as honorary life director.

    Kept. Prizewinning Horses

    Mr. Vincent had an experienced eye for horses, and during his farming career always stabled handsome drivers and light horses. They were often among the prize-winners at district fairs and shows. While in South Dumfries he was a valued member of the Townline Community Club. Mr. Vincent was a member and regular attendant of Knox United Church. He formerly served on the board of managers.

    The Survivors

    Surviving, besides his widow, the former Flora Ball, are a daughter, Mrs. Gordon McConachie (Helen), Brantford; two sons, Warren and Marlon, Ayr; two sisters, Mrs. Sherman Harding (Teresa), Marion, Mich., and Mrs. Harold Walk-er (Clara), Woodstock, and two brothers, Walter of Ottawa and Earl of Saskatoon, Sask. Five grandchildren also survive. His wife by a former marriage, Helen Kersell Knight, predeceased him in 1918. Funeral on Thursday The funeral will be held from Knox United Church on Thursday at 2.30 p.m., with interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Notes:

    Passed away peacefully at his home in Ayr, Ontario with family by his side on Sunday, May 1, 2022. He lived his lifetime in Ayr and at 98 years of age, still resided alone at his condo home. Family events, activities and Facebook chats were a joy to him, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid card player, well-respected businessman, philanthropist, sports and community supporter.

    Beloved husband of Laura Vincent (nee Hamilton) (2012) and loved father of: Douglas (Grace) in Woodstock, Darlene in Toronto, Joyce (David) in Blenheim, Joan (Cliff) in Cambridge and David (Teri) in Ayr. Grandpa to: Tracey, Rob, Tom (2010) Suzi, Mike, Randy, Laurie, Ashley and Christina. Also, "GGV" and proud great-grandfather to 21 of his precious jewels: Mikaela, Madison, Mack, Sawyer, Holden, Andrew, Keira, Aidan, Claire, Malakai, Declan, Rowan, Cooper, Tessa, Harper, Wyatt, Josephine, Jase, Sadie, Eli, and Tripp. Brother and business partner of Marlen (Jane) (2012).

    During his lifetime, he was very involved in the Ayr and North Dumfries community, as Councillor and Chair of many Community Projects. He Chaired a successful International Plowing Match Tented City, 150th Ayr Sesquicentennial Event and establishment of Kirkwood Apartments. In addition, he was a major supporter of minor sports, the Ontario Champion Ayr Rockets and Centennials hockey teams.

    Warren spent his career serving the agriculture industry, developing Vincent Farm Equipment Ltd. into, one of Canada's top CaseIH and BRP (Bombardier) dealerships, with six locations. In addition to many industry and supplier awards, he was an Ontario Agriculture Hall of Fame Inductee and Waterloo Region Citizen Honouree. He also served as President of both the Canadian and Ontario Farm Equipment Dealers Association, and Canada Director for the North American Industry Association.

    Despite his recent challenges in life, he always maintained a positive and supportive attitude with a smile and kind word for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

    Karen Louise Vincent Passes

    Private funeral service for Karen Louise Vincent, 19-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marlen Vincent, who passed away at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, on Thursday afternoon, was held at the W. O. Ball Funeral Home on Sunday. Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan conducted the service. Interment followed in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Douglas Vincent and Glenn Dance of Ayr, Bill Teller of Paris and Robert Kipp of Waterloo. She is survived by her parents; a brother, Bryan; a sister, Lynda; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dance, Ayr, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. L. C. Vincent of Ayr.
