    Notes:

    John Detweiler was born in Canada, October 1, 1857. He came to Michigan with his parents when 8 years old. He lived the greater part of his natural life near Caledonia. He married Martha Nogles. To this union were given seven children; of this number three survive: Ephraim of Grand Rapids, Freeman and Mrs. Harvey Shook of Caledonia, Michigan. His second marriage was with Sarah Warner, who with two brothers, three sisters, and six grandchildren,survive. The funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren Church in Caledonia. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Holy Corners. The Rev. C. L. Snyder officiated.

    Dettwiler. - Joseph, son of Abraham and Barbara (Koch) Dettwiler, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Sept. 8, 1860; died Nov. 9, 1940; aged 80 y. 2 m. 1 d. He was blessed with good health, never having required the services of a physician during his lifetime, until about 10 months ago his health began to fail and about 4 months ago, after a doctor's examination it was discovered that cancer had developed. When a young man he joined the Mennonite Church and was faithful to the end. In 1882 he married Elizabeth Leinbach. This union was blessed with 5 children. One son preceded him to death in 1911. There remain to mourn his passing his widow and 4 children (Amanda Wilson of Kingman, Alta.; Noah of Limon, Colo.; Aaron of New Paris, Ind.; Malinda Dettwiler at home); also 1 brother (Abraham, of St. Jacobs, Ont.), and 1 sister (Elizabeth of Goshen, Ind.), 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Three sisters and 2 brothers preceded him in death. At the age of 3 he moved to Michigan with his parents and lived there until 1910, when he moved to Youngstown, Alta., with his family. In 1924 he moved to Kingman, Alta., at which place he lived until his death. He had a deep desire for spiritual things, always attending the place of worship whenever it was possible to do so. Funeral services were conducted in the home and at the Salem Mennonite Church, Nov. 12. Services in charge of Bros. M. D. Stutzman and J. B. Stauffer. Texts, Rev. 14: 15; Psa.36: 9. Burial in near-by cemetery.

    Dettwiler.-Abraham K., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham W. Dettwiler, was born near Floradale, Ont., Oct. 20, 1862; died at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., after a brief illness, May 4, 1949; aged 86 y. 6 m. 14 d. He spent some of his early years in Michigan, took up residence in St. Jacobs, Ont., in 1913 and lived there until his death. On March 12, 1893, he was united in marriage to Veronica Sauder, who preceded him in death nearly twelve years ago. To this union were born 8 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. Surviving are 3 daughters (Sevilla, St. Jacobs, Ont.; Mrs. Annie Ramer. Markham, Ont.; and Laura-Mrs. Eden Cressman, St. Jacobs), 2 sons (Enos, West Montrose, Ont.; and Reuben, Floradale, Ont.), one sister (Mrs. Elizabeth Culp, Wakarusa, Ind.), 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church from his youth. Funeral services were held at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church on May 6, in charge of Roy S. Koch.

    DETTWILER, Malinda. Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." A resident of Fairview Home, Cambridge since 1953, in her 97th year.

    Malinda was born in Brutis, Michigan.

    Predeceased by her parents, Joseph K. and Elizabeth (Lienbach) Dettwiler; sister, Amanda Wilson, brothers, Noah L., Aaron and Solomon. Malinda was the last surviving member of her family. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

    Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10, 1995, with viewing and visitation prior to a brief service at Fairview Centre Auditorium, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge, at 10:30 a.m. Further viewing and visitation at 1:30 p.m. at Countryside Mennonite Fellowship, Hawkesville, prior to funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Burial to follow at Hillside Mennonite Cemetery, Hawkesville.

    She resided at Fairview Mennonite home.

    She was a daughter of the late A.K. Dettwiler and Veronica Sauder; sister of Laura Cressman of Elmira.

    She was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.

    Burial will be in the St. Jacobs Mennonite cemetery.

    Donations to Fairview Mennonite home would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

    Dettwiler, -- Reuben, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Dettwiler, of St. Jacobs, Ont., was born in Brutus, Mich., July 6, 1901; passed away Jan. 16, 1951; aged 49 y. 6 m. 10 d. On Dec. 12, 1923, he was united in marriage to Ella Weber. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving companion, 3 children (Fern-Mrs. Osiah Horst, Manheim, Ont.; Leeta-Mrs. Melvin Horst, West Montrose, Ont.; and Gladys, at home), also 4 grandchildren, 1 brother (Enos, West Montrose), 3 sisters (Mrs. Annie Ramer, Markham, Ont.; Laura-Mrs. Eden Cresssman, and Sevilla, both of St. Jacobs.), and a wide circle of relatives and friends. His death was caused by an attack of pneumonia and a stroke caused by an attack of pneumonia and a stroke. He was ordained to the office of deacon at Elmira, Ont., Dec. 15, 1929; five years later Nov. 11, 1934, he was ordained a minister; May 11, 1947, he was ordained a bishop. The funeral was held Jan. 19 at Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel, conducted by Moses Roth, followed by a service at the Floradale Church with O. D. Snider and J. B. Martin in charge. Interment was made in the adjoining church.

    CRESSMAN, Laura (Mrs. Eden M.) - It is with a sense of joy and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother to her Heavenly Home. Laura (Dettwiler) Cressman, in her 103rd year, of Chateau Gardens, Elmira, died peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2008. She has gone to join her dear husband, Eden Cressman (1975) and infant daughter, Beatrice (1934). She was the mother of Naomi and Milt Shoemaker of Elmira, Mary and Marshall Musselman of St. Jacobs, Violet Martin of Floradale, Calvin and Janice Cressman of Elmira. She was the proud grandmother to three generations of grandchildren. She is also survived by many of her extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, A.K. and Veronica (Sauder) Dettwiler; two brothers, Enos Dettwiler and Rev. Reuben Dettwiler; two sisters, Sevilla Dettwiler and Annie Ramer; three brothers in infancy; three great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Lloyd Martin. Laura's family will receive friends and relatives at the Elmira Mennonite Church on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steven Janzen and Pastor Renee Sauder officiating, followed by interment in the St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery. In her memory, donations to Mennonite Central Committee or Chateau Gardens Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Chateau Gardens for the love and compassion they gave our mother during the years she spent there. It was much appreciated.     BAER, Pauline (nee Dettwiler) Of Elmira and formerly of Moorefield, passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on Saturday, January 3, 2015, in her 84th year.

    Beloved wife of the late Curtis Henry Baer (2001).

    Dear mother of David Baer and his wife June of Boston. Loving grandmother of Alyssa. Loved sister of Mahlon Dettwiler of Bloomingdale and Carl B. Dettwiler and his wife Ellen of Elmira. Sister-in-law of Mae Baer of Wellesley, and Erma Meadows of Stratford. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews neighbours and friends.

    Predeceased by one grandson Nathaniel in infancy, one sister-in-law Erma Dettwiler, and brothers-in-law, Morgan Baer, Elmer Baer, Orval Baer, Wayne Baer, and Roy Meadows.

    The family will receive friends at the Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Rev. Dale Bauman will conduct the Funeral Service in Community Mennonite Fellowship, Drayton on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1 p.m.

    Spring interment Bethesda Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Mennonite Central Committee or Community Mennonite Fellowship, Drayton, would be appreciated by the family.

    Cressman. - Beatrice Faith, beloved little daughter of Eden and Laura (Dettwiler) Cressman died Nov. 30, 1934; aged 4 m. 2 d. Beatrice was never very robust, but was sick only two days with pneumonia. She leaves her sorrowing parents, 3 sisters (Naomi Loretta, Mary Elinor, and Violet Arletta), 3 grandparents, and many other friends. The funeral was held Dec. 2 from her home to the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church for services, Bro. Moses Brubacher and Bro. Curtis Cressman having charge. Interment in the Conestoga Cemetery.
