    SELKE, CSJ, Sister Enid Died peacefully at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O'Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario, December 17, 2018 in the 77th year of her religious life. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank Joseph Selke and Mary Agnes (Schmidt) Selke, her sisters Blanche and Evelyn and her brothers John and Frank D. Selke Jr. She is survived by her sisters Delphine (Condon) and Geraldine Selke and lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends and sisters in community. Sister Enid grew up in St. Monica's parish in Toronto and attended St. Joseph's College School, where she was taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph. In 1941, she entered the congregation and served in the ministry of education as a teacher and principal in Toronto, St. Catharines and Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Sister Enid lived the charism of the congregation as she brought love and unity to many situations. Gifted as a teacher and organizer she continued to use her talents for teaching outside the formal classroom in Kapuskasing, Ontario. While there, in 1986, in memory of her late father, Sister Enid, in collaboration with others, founded the Frank J. Selke Memorial Resource Centre for pastoral education and adult faith development. She was treasured by many of the people of Kapuskasing and the surrounding area, where she ministered for 34 years. In 2016, as Sister Enid's health began to decline she had to leave her mission in Kapuskasing and return to Toronto. Recently, she has resided at Sisters of Joseph Care Centre, where she prayed for the needs of new Canadian families struggling to make their home in Toronto, among other needs. Visitation will take place at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O'Connor Drive, Toronto, ON, on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at 2 O'Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario.     Died at Hamilton

    The death occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, last Friday morning of Sister Mary Alphonsine, daughter of Mr. Nicholas Schmidt and the late Alphonsine Fischer at the age of 30 years and 10 months. About three weeks ago she took ill with an attack of inflammatory rheumatism which affected her heart and caused her demise. She was born in Birnamwood, Wisc., but spent her school days in New Hamburg and later moved with her parents to Kitchener. About eight years ago she joined St. Joseph's Order at Hamilton and for the past three years had charge of the office in St. Joseph's Hospital. The news of her death was received with deep regret by her many relatives and friends in New Hamburg. Surviving are her father, Nicholas Schmidt, and five sisters, Anna, Clara and Elaine, all of Kitchener; sister M. St. Pius, Hamilton, and Mrs. Frank J. Selke, of Toronto, and four brothers, Emil, of New Hamburg, Thomas and Raymond, of Kitchener, and Edward, of Timmins. The funeral was held on Monday morning. The funeral mass was sung by Bishop McNally, assisted by Fr. Benninger, of Hamilton. A large circle of priests, doctors, Sisters, nurses and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The pallbearers were: William Collin and F. McTaggart, of Kitchener, John Fischer, Vincent Scherer, Jerome Scherer and Alex Brenner, of New Hamburg. Following the funeral service at St. Joseph's Chapel, the remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph's R.C. Cemetery, Hamilton.
