    "Josiah Shoemaker, for years a well known resident of this city, died at his home, 49 Bingeman st., early today following a lingering illness. He was in his 75th year.

    The late Mr. Shoemaker was born in Waterloo Tp., the s/o the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Shoemaker. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Church.

    Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Erma, at home, eight sisters, Mrs. Edith Quickfall, Mrs. E. W. B. Snider, Mrs. Charles Lips, Mrs. Orphen Latsch, and the Misses Matilda, Susannah, Angeline and Lydiann, all of Kitchener, and by one brother, Irwin Shoemaker, also of this city....."

    "Mrs. Edith Quickfall, 76, of 101 David St., died Tuesday at KW Hospital after a lengthy illness.

    Born in Kitchener March 20, 1882, she was a dau. of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Shoemaker. She was a member of Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church.

    Mrs. Quickfall was predeceased by her husband, A.C. Quickfall, Nov. 15,1928, and one son, Richard, in April 1943.

    Surviving are one son, Clark of Kitchener; four daughters, Miss Evelyn Quickfall and Mrs. Harold (Ellen) Berlet of Kitchener, Mrs. Wallace (Pearl) Simms of Mimico and Mrs. Arthur (Eileen) Dahms of Waterloo; two sisters Miss Susannah Shoemaker and Mrs. Louisa Latsch of Kitchener.     SHOEMAKER, Miss Erma -- On Sunday, May 17, 1981, at K-W Hospital. Erma Shoemaker, aged 83 years, of Sunnyside Home, formerly of Bingeman Street, Kitchener. She was a lifelong resident of Kitchener; her father, the late Josiah Shoemaker and her mother, the late Martha Kensinger. A member of Bethany Missionary Church, the WCTU and OMS Inernational and the Leprosy Mission. Lovingly remembered by her cousins and friends. The funeral service was held today at 2 p.m. in the Ratz-Bechtel Chapel. Rev. C. E. Hunking conducted the service. Interment in First Mennonite cemetery. Eileen (nee Quickfall) Dahms was the beloved wife of Arthur Dahms (1983). She was the dear mother of Fred (Ruth), Ronald (Ruth-Marie) and Mary (George) Hougham. She was predeceased by her siblings, Clark, Evelyn, and Richard Quickfall and Pearl Simms. Eileen was a long-time member of Zion United Church, Kitchener and Dublin St. United Church, Guelph. She wrote her 545 page Memoirs on a computer at age 85.     Murray Fried, a lifelong resident of Kitchener, devoted his life to working with youth. Fried began coaching ice hockey in the early 1950s and in 1959 started the first Atom hockey team in Kitchener, later known as the Bauer Krauts which gained fame across North America for its competitive play and good sportsmanship. Fried coached the team for twenty-one years and managed the team for nine years, encompassing 2,020 games and winning 79 tournaments, Ontario Minor Hockey Association and league championships. Currently he keeps track of 600 Kraut Alumni members.

    In 1975 he received a Life Membership in Kitchener Minor Hockey Association and in 1976 Fried was selected Waterloo Region Sports Executive of the Year. In 1984 he received twenty-five year Service Awards from the Kitchener Minor Hockey Association and the Ontario Hockey Association.

    Fried was also a member of the Scouting Movement for over thirty-five years, including being a Cub and Scout Leader at the 11th Kitchener for twenty years. He was awarded a thirty-five year service pin, the "Medal of Merit", and the "Bar to the Medal of Merit" for outstanding service to Scouting.

    Fried also coached boy's softball beginning in the 1950s and started Kitchener's first Squirt Softball team in 1967. He started Kitchener Minor Softball in 1969 and he was their founding President. He coached the Kitchener Bantams to an Ontario Championship in 1970.

    In 1996 Fried received the Sertoma Club "Service to Mankind Award" for significant and meritorious service to mankind. He was also a founder of the Don Hayes Hockey School; he serves on the Parade of History executive at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium; and he was a member of other sports and Scouting committees.

    His working career in plastics spanned fifty years and he was awarded a Half Century Citation by the Plastic Pioneers of Canada.

    FRIED, Murray Russell Passed away, peacefully, at The Village of Winston Park, in Kitchener, on Wednesday, January 12th, 2005, in his 74th year, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Roseville, in 1931, Murray moved to Kitchener in 1934 and was a lifetime resident who devoted his life working with youth within organizations and helping youth on a one-to-one basis. Murray was an active member of Calvary United Church, since 1934. Survived by his "sister" cousins, Doris Wilson, Helen Radke and Sandi Galbraith; cousins, Roswell and Norwood Cress, Howard Fried, Jack Fried, Ruth Brown, Walter Fried, Myrtle Vanderschoot, Susie Good, Ivy Musselman, Dorothy Shantz, Marguerite Reick, Shirley Schiedel, Dorothy Martin, Don Brodhaecker and Jean Rickert. Predeceased by his loving and devoted mother and bestfriend, Rose in 2002 and by his father, Russell in 1934.Family was important to Murray and he became the Fried Family historian, genealogist and an active member of the reunion committee. Murray's career in Plastics spanned 50 years, 40 as Sales Manager for Mitchell Plastics Ltd. and 10 as a part-time sales rep, for Duron Plastics Ltd. After his retirement from Mitchell Plastics, he was awarded a Half Century Citation by the Plastic Pioneers of Canada. Murray was involved in coaching ice hockey, since the early 1950's and in 1959 started the first Atom Hockey Teamin Kitchener, later known as the Bauer Krauts, which gained fame across North America, playing in 6 provinces and 7 states, for it's competitive, colourful play and excellent sportsmanship on and off the ice. Murray was a former Director of the Don Hayes Hockey Schools and the Kitchener Rangers. He served on the Executive Committee of the Kitchener Auditorium Parade of History and the Parade of History Banquet Committee. Murray also coached boy's softball, since the 1950's and started Kitchener's first Squirt softball team, in 1967 and went on to start Kitchener Minor Softball, in 1969, of which he was thefounding President. He coached the Kitchener Bantams to an Ontario Championship, in 1970. Murraywas a member of the Scouting Movement for over 35 years and was a very active Cub and Scout Leader, at the 11th Kitchener for 20 years. He recently was awarded a 35 year service pin and previously received the "Medal of Merit" and "Bar to the Medal of Merit" for outstanding service to Scouting. Murray served on the Evertors Cub and Scout Camp Property Committeeand the Scam-per Camp Committee for needy boys forfree camping. Murray continued to contribute to Sportsand Scouting throughout his life. Murray was also active in the "Koats for Kids" Program (United Appeal) and the House of Friendship Christmas Hamper Program. He was a member of the Waterloo Historical Society, K-W Field Naturalists, founding member of the K-W Hiking Club, member of the Scouts on Stamps Society International (SOSSI), founder of the Maple Leaf Chapter of Ontario (SOSS1)and a member of the Mutual "Investment" Club for 50 years. Murray also served as the Editor of several Cluband Organization bulletins and newsletters. Murray received the Sertoma Award of Service to Mankind in 1996, was recognized at The Village of Winston Park's Third Annual Community Builder Event, in 1999 for his many volunteer contributions to the community and was inducted into the Waterloo County Hall of Fame in 2004. Murray will be deeply missed by those whose lives he has touched and the list is endless. Friends and relatives were received at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa Street South (at Westmount Road), 743-8900, on Friday, January 14, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and will be received on Saturday, January 15, 2005 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Murray's life will take place at Calvary Memorial United Church, 91 Gruhn St. (at Park and Glasgow) in Kitchener on Monday, January 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Lougheed and Rev.Terry Dunseith officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot in Roseville Cemetery.

    Murray Fried

    Murray Russell Fried passed away peacefully at The Village of Winston Park, in Kitchener, on Wednesday, 'January 12, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was in his 74th year.

    Born in Roseville in 1931, Murray moved to Kitchener in 1934 and was a lifetime resident who devoted his life working with youth within organizations and helping youth on a one-to-one basis. Murray was an active member of Calvary United Church since 1934.

    Survived by his "sister" cousins, Doris Wilson, Helen Radke and Sandi Galbraith, cousins, Roswell and Norwood Cress, Howard Fried, Jack Fried, Ruth Brown, Walter Fried, Myrtle Vanderschoot, Susie Good, Ivy Musselman, Dorothy Shantz, Marguerite Reick, Shirley Schiedel, Dorothy Martin, Don Brodhaecker and Jean Rickert.

    Predeceased by his loving and devoted mother and best friend, Rose in 2002 and his father, Russell in 1934.

    Family was important to Murray and he became the Fried Family historian, genealogist and an active member of the reunion committee.

    Murray's career in plastics spanned 50 years, 40 as sales manager for Mitchell Plastics Ltd. and 10 as a part-time sales rep. for Duron Plastics Ltd. After his retirement from Mitchell Plastics, he was awarded a Half Century Citation by the Plastic Pioneers of Canada.

    Murray was involved in coaching ice hockey since the early 1950's and in 1959 started the first Atom Hockey Team in Kitchener, later known as the Bauer Krauts which gained fame across North America, playing in 6 provinces and 7 states, for its competitive, colourful play and excellent sportsmanship on and off the ice.

    Murray was a member of the Scouting Movement for over 35 years and was a very active Cub and Scout leader at the 11th Kitchener for 20 years. Rested at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, Kitchener. A celebration of Murray's life took place at Calvary Memorial United Church, Kitchener on Monday. Interment in family plot in Roseville Cemetery.
