Mrs. Jane Anderson

An aged and highly esteemed resident of New Hamburg passed away last Friday, June 26th, in the person of Mrs. James Anderson, mother of Dr. R. W. Anderson. Her death was due to old age, but complications due to a fall hastened her demise. The deceased was in her 85th year and was born in Beverly Township and after her marriage to Charles Anderson, she resided for some years on Manitoulin Island. Previous to her marriage, she taught school for ten years. Her husband predeceased her by thirty-five years. Twenty-two years ago she came to New Hamburg and had since made her home with her son, Dr. Andersen. She was a Methodist in religion and a ardent church worker. She leaves two sons, Dr. Anderson, of New Hamburg, and C. B. Anderson, of Seaforth, besides one sister, Miss E. Pentland; of Ottawa.

The funeral was held on Monday afternoon with Rev. A. E. Pletsch of the Evangelical Church in charge of the service. Interment took place in Riverside Cemetery.

ANDERSON, RAYMOND WALLACE was born near Barrie at Anton Mills in 1883. He received his preliminary education on the Manitoulin Island where his father was involved in lumbering. He graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto with a silver medal, in 1904. Following postgraduate work in England he commenced practice in Plattsville in association with Dr. J. L. Brown. In 1909 he moved to New Hamburg, having purchased the practice of Dr. John Brodrecht. His home was in the former residence of Senator Merner, at present the Waterlot Restaurant. He married the daughter of Dr. Brown of Plattsville in 1912. He died on September 30, 1933 following a lengthy illness.

He was interested in sporting activities, in particular harness racing, in which field he was well known for his string of racers.

DR. R. W. ANDERSON

NEW HAMBURG, Ont. The funeral of the late Dr. Raymond Wallace Anderson was held here yesterday afternoon. he doctor had been in ill health for some time and it wa slast Saturday morning that he passed to his reward. He was born at Anton Mills, near Barrie, nearly 51 years ago but at an early age moved with his parents. to Little Current, Manitoulin island where his father conducted the first lumber mill on the island.

Following two years of high school at Little Current he obtained his matriculation at the Galt Collegiate institute, It was in 1904 that he graduated from the University of Toronto in medicine, with honors obtaining the silver medal. He then took a post graduate course in medicine in London, England. Following his return to Canada he spent five years with his father-in-law the late Dr. J. L. Brown in Plattsville before coming to New Hamburg to start what be came an extensive practice.

He was not only known throughout the district as a doctor but as a prominent sportsman as well. He was especially interested in harness horse racing. He was president of the first black fox ranch to start in this district which took the name of the New Hamburg Fox Ranch. He also owned the deer which roamed the streets of the village for several years. He was a member of the hunters club.

Dr. Anderson Called By Death

The Village of New Hamburg and surrounding community is mourning the death of a beloved citizen and medical advisor in the death of Dr. Raymond Wallace Anderson, who passed away on Saturday morning, September 30th, in .his 51st year. Though fighting a battle of illness for a period of years he remained on his feet almost to the last and attended his patients as long as his broken health allowed. An attack of pneumonia finally summoned him just a few days after he took to his death bed. In the death of Dr. Anderson the village lost a fine and outstanding man. Imbued with the sympathy and kindness, so characteristic of doctors, he won the love and esteem of his fellowmen and his passing is poignantly regretted.

Dr. Anderson was a great lover of athletic sports and made a hobby of horse racing, having a string of harness race horses for years, which he sent to the race meets throughout the province. He was interested in the New Hamburg Fox Farm, one of the first to be established in Ontario.

The late Dr. Anderson was born at Anton Mills (near Barrie) in 1883, but spent his boyhood days at Little Current, Manitoulin Island, whither his parents moved in his infancy, his father becoming prominent in the lumber industry. After two years study in the Little Current high school he matriculated from the Galt Collegiate Institute and graduated in Medicine in 1904 from Toronto University, being an honor graduate and also a silver medallist. Following his graduation he took a post graduate course in London, England. Dr. Anderson entered his professional career in Plattsville as associate doctor with Dr. W. L. Brown and in 1909 came to New Hamburg, purchasing the practice of the late Dr. John Brodrecht and purchased the former home of the late Senator S. Merner in the centre of the town, where he resided and had his office. During his twenty years residence here he won a large practice in town and adjoining community, which he cheerfully served in his professional capacity.

The late Dr. Anderson was married in 1912 to Miss Jessie Brown, daughter of the late Dr. J. L. Brown, of Plattsville, later a resident of this town. He leaves in bereavement his sorrowing wife, a brother, Bruce Anderson, of Seaforth, and a sister, Mrs. Wm. Jenkins, of Ottawa. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from his late resi- dence. Service at the house, was conducted by Rev. Mr. E. G. Dale, pastor of the local Baptist Church. The graveside rites were held under the auspices of the Oddfellow Lodge of which deceased was a member. The lodge members attended in a body and the service was also conducted by Rev. Mr. Dale, a fellow member and by Bro. Roy Luckhardt. The pallbearers were: Wm. Jenkins, Ottawa, H. O. Hawke, Galt, R. C. Puddicombe, O. H. Becker, Bill Harvey and Ed. Merner, New Hamburg.
