    Mystery Cloaks Woman's Death
Said Injuries Caused By Car Mishap; Police Blame Unknown Assailant

Toronto, Dec. 24 - The death occurred yesterday under mysterious circumstances of Mrs. Lydia Stubbs, 38, who passed away at the General Hospital yesterday. The woman had repeatedly declined to give details on what caused injuries from which she was suffering. All she would say to doctors and others was "in a car accident, hurt in a car accident", naming D'Arcy and Queen streets. Doctors said that it was unlikely that her injuries were caused in a motor car accident, and it has also been pointed out that the two streets mentioned by her do not intersect. An inquest will be held. One theory is that the woman was the victim of a vengeful "Jack the Ripper" type of assault and that she is shielding the assailant. Police investigating the case first questioned three men and heard vague stories of drunken brawls. It was thought she had been murderously assaulted during one of these.

Apparently Mrs. Stubbs was hurt about Tuesday night of last week. It is thought she remained in her apartment on Gerrard street, under medical attention until Sunday. As her condition grew grave, her physician ordered her to the hospital. Doctors informed her late yesterday that there was small chance of her recovery, but she refused to make any further statement
