Lehman.--Susannah, daughter and eldest child, of Abraham and Anna Wideman, was born Sept. 3, 1876, near Floradale, Ont.; died Oct. 16, 1932, at her home near Dodds, Alta.; aged 56 y. 1 m. 10 d. Death was caused by a complication of dropsy, enlarged heart, and diseases of the kidneys and liver. Sister Lehman was united in holy matrimony with J. K. Lehman at Sibley, Iowa, Feb. 9, 1898. This union was blessed with 8 children--5 boys and 3 girls, 1 girl (Christina) died in infancy. The sons are Joseph, Alvin, Oliver, David, and Melvin. The daughters are Irene (Mrs. Ezra Stauffer) and Mary (Mrs. Roy Roth). Her mother preceded her to the spirit world in 1925 and her father 11 months ago. With her husband she moved to Mayton, Alta., March 11, 1901, where they made their home until March 11, 1915. Then they moved to Hubbard, Oreg. There they resided until the Fall of 1917, when they returned to Mayton, Alta. The following spring (1918) they moved to the Tofield district, where they remained until the time of her departure. She leaves a loving husband, 5 sons, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Sister Lehman united with the Mennonite Church in the fall of 1901, of which she remained a faithful member to the time of her departure, faithfully discharging her duties as a minister's wife (her husband having been ordained to that office since 1906). Sister Lehman was much interested in caring for the sick. Many days and nights were spent in caring for sick persons. The Sister failed in health about a year ago, but her health was again restored sufficiently in the spring so that she was able to attend communion services. Late this summer she took a turn for the worse and during the latter weeks especially she suffered severe pain almost continually day and night. She expressed a desire to depart and be with Christ, stating that her Savior could not come too soon to take her Home. On Sunday afternoon her request was granted and she found rest. Funeral services were conducted at the Salem Mennonite Church, conducted by Bro. Isaac Miller of Mazeppa, Alta. (Texts Psa. 91; Jas. 4: 14), also by Bro Henry Harder of Didsbury, Alta. (Psa. 116: 15), assisted by the home ministers. Interment in cemetery near by.

Wideman - Abram H., son of the late Abraham B. and Anna (Hembling) Wideman, was born in Osceola Co., Iowa, Aug. 24, 1891; died Oct. 27, 1939; aged 48y. 2m. 3d. He with 3 others in a car were on their way home from a S. S. Conference held at Duchess, Alberta, Oct. 22, where he had been enjoying himself, feeding on spiritual food. On the way home they were caught in a severe snowstorm 37 miles east of Calgary. After great difficulty they found refuge in a farm home, and stayed there 2 1/2 days because of the impassible roads. He was taken seriously ill at this home, and as soon as possible was rushed to the hospital in Calgary, where he died a day and a half later, death caused by cerebral hemorrage. He was unconscious until death relieved him. Why one who was so much needed in the home was taken so suddenly is hard to understand, but sometime, somewhere, these mysteries will be unfolded. He was married to Hattie Kilmer Dec. 15, 1911. To this union were born 5 sons and 4 daughters: Floyd, Kenneth, LaVern, Delmer Allen, Ronald, Alice Louella at Kitchener, Ont.; Arvilla Nancy, Vera (Mrs. Lloyd Yoder), and Bernice LaVonne. He leaves his loving companion, 9 children, 1 grandchild, 3 brothers (Ed, Sheridan, Oreg.; Ivy and Menno, Tofield), 3 sisters (Mrs. Milton Sitler, Mrs. Will Boettger, Mrs. Lee Roth). His parents, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters predeceased him. He with his parents moved to Mayton, Alberta in 1901. After his marriage he moved to Suffield where he homesteaded. He lived there 2 years, moving back to Mayton, where he resided until 1918, when he moved to Tofield. From 1923 to 1927 he lived at Petoskey, Mich. He returned to Tofield for 2 years and then from 1929 to 1932 he again resided at Petoskey. The remaining years he lived at Tofield where he resided until his death. Bro. Wideman united with the Mennonite Church in his youth, remaining a faithful member until death. His children are all members of the church of his choice with the exception of two who are yet in their tender years. The funeral services, conducted at the home and at Salem Mennonite Church were largely attended. Brethern J. B. Stauffer and M. D. Stutzman in charge. Text, Job 30: 23. Buried in Mennonite Cemetery.

KITCHENER - The founder of Charcoal Group of Restaurants has died. He was 93.

Delmer Wideman, who went by Del, started the 42-seat restaurant called the Charcoal Pit in 1956, renamed as the Charcoal Steak House two years later.

To keep up with the business' growth, the restaurant first moved above HiWay Market in a 250-seat venue and then moved to its current location on King Street East in 1976.

Wideman created The Library Lounge, and cocktail nights hosted at the Charcoal Steak House, which is known as Martini's today.

He also founded the Lower Deck, where Del's Italian Kitchen is now located.

Wideman also played a big part in creating the Eat 'n' Putt restaurant and entertainment complex and its successor Pioneer Sportsworld.

"It was Del's ability to 'think big' that solidified him as a hospitality industry icon who laid the groundwork for a thriving family business that never strayed from his core beliefs of excellent service and top quality cuisine," read a statement from Charcoal Steak House that was posted to Facebook.

Wideman retired in 1991 and his two sons, Tom and Tim, run the Charcoal Group of Restaurants today.
