    Notes:

FISCHER, George It is with heavy hearts and deep appreciation for a life well lived, we announce the death of George Fischer, a truly special man -- devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, constant provider, hard worker, charming rogue, cartoonist and Blue Jays fanatic. He died January 22, 2015 at St. Mary's General Hospital, just two months shy of his 87th birthday. For 66 of those years, he was the beloved husband and constant companion of Betty (nee Woolner). Proud father of Doug Fischer and his wife, Kathy, of Stratford, Linda Fischer (Princess) of London and Connie Beamer (Snig) and her husband, Dave, of New Westminster, B.C. He loved his grandchildren: Brenda Hannela and her husband, Ryan, of Surrey, B.C.; Drew Fischer of Toronto; and Adam Beamer and his wife, Helen, of Surrey. Enchanted by his great-grandson, Benjamin Hannela, and excitedly looking forward to the birth of his great-granddaughter in early March. George was born and raised in Kitchener in a loving Depression-era family and at 14 left school for a job at Boehmer Box. A year later, he began working at the Merchants Rubber (later Dominion Rubber, then Uniroyal) where he stayed for 36 years doing a wide variety of jobs with pride and a strong work ethic. Cutbacks forced him out of a job at age 51, but undeterred, he soon found work at C.N. Weber Supply, where he remained until 62 -- this time leaving when it suited him. In all, he was in the workforce for 48 years. After retirement, George and Betty enjoyed many winters in Florida, where they developed a network of new friends. He also pursued with vigour his lifelong passion for drawing, producing two books on the history of cartoons. And, with Betty, he became a rabid Blue Jays supporter. George was predeceased by his father, William, in 1968 and his mother, Laura, in 2005. Sadly missed by his surviving sisters, Ruth Clarke (Milt), Dorothy Eckert (Jerry) and Janet Fiddler (Jim) and predeceased by his only older sister, Marie Taylor (Reg) in 2011. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and friend Larry Woolner. The family thanks the staff of the Respiratory Unit at St. Mary's for their excellent care and attention. Special gratitude is extended to nurse Jocelyn Poole for her great kindness, compassion and skill in making George's final hours comfortable and peaceful. George's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A service to celebrate George's life will take place on Tuesday, January 27th in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
