Christian Schneider, "was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, May 28th, 1804. When two years of age his parents moved to Canada and settled in Doon, Ontario, where he was raised. On December 5th, 1825, he was married to Anna (No. 2104), daughter of John and Anna (Schowalter) Cressman. She was born June 18th, 1803, and died July 12th 1887. Shortly after their marriage they moved about a mile south of Breslau where he was the proprietor of the large farm now in possession of his youngest son, Absalom. he is the only one of his father's large family that is still living, and is yet quite strong considering his great age. His mental powers are good yet and he seems to enjoy the best of health but is anxiously waiting for the time to be called home to the mansions beyond. Since the decease of his wife he resides in his own house on the old place, having a housekeeper. His family consisted of eight children".

Berlet's Corners - The funeral of Mr. Moses Snyder whose death occurred in the railway accident in Berlin Monday evening, June 3rd, took place Thursday morning and was very largely attended, there being about one hundred and forty rigs.

Moses, Schneider, of Wilmot, Instantly Killed by a Train in Berlin.

His Wife Fatally Injured

The people of this district were shocked, last Monday evening, to learn the sad news that Mr. and Mrs. Moses Schneider, who have lived for half a century on their farm near Berlet's Corners, were run into by a Galt train at a crossing in Berlin that afternoon.

It appears the old couple were returning from attending a Mennonite convention. Mr. Schneider, being partly deaf, did not hear the warning whistle or the frantic screams of friends behind him. The train dashed into his buggy, smashing it to atoms, killing the horse, grinding Mr. Schneider's body almost to a pulp and horribly bruising his aged wife. She was at once taken to the hospital but so many bones were broken and her other injuries were so serious that no hopes of her recovery are entertained.

Deceased was between 70 and 80 years of age, most of which time had been spent on the homestead, lot II. con. 1, Wilmot, where he earned a competency for his family and gained a character for honor and Christian nobility which few attain.

We understand the funeral is to occur today at the Mennonite church between Philipsburg and St. Agatha.

No Blame Attached to Rallway Employees

Jury Recommends Grand Trunk to Erect Gates at Crossings.

WERE COMING TO BERLIN TO DE- POSIT $200 IN THE BANK.

Moses K. Snyder and his aged life partner left their large, well cultivated farm, in Wilmot township, with its neatly appointed home, shortly after noon on Monday, to come to Berlin. Their mission was a two-fold one - Mr. Snyder wanted to have his measure taken for a new -suit of clothes, and in his inside coat pocket there was a roll of ten $20 bills, which he was going to deposit in the Savings Bank and add to the credit balance of $1,444.61. They drove to town in one of those aquare top buggies-one of which belongs to nearly every Old Mennonite family. The faithful old horse jogged slowly along, and bye and bye they came to town along Albert-st. Whether the occupants of the buggy were dozing or were interested in conversation is not known; but certain it is, they were oblivious of the danger that lay in the fast approaching train, and which proved to be, for one of them, at least, the Messenger of Death.

The train, bound for Galt, pulled out of the Berlin yards at 2.37, and was travelling at its ordinary speed, observing the usual whistle signals for the different crossings. The collision came with a frightful crash, the tender, which was ahead, catching the horse about midway. The buggy did not cross the track, being hurled against the whitewashed fence, breaking it down, and crashing the vehicle into a mass of kindling wood.

Mr. Snyder suffered almost instant death, his head being terribly smashed. He breathed his last just after being carried into the house. He appears to have been either struck by the train or hurled against the post of the fence. His body lay be side the track, having not crossed it. Mrs. Snyder was carried or thrown about 40 feet further, where she was picked up, apparently at the point of death. The horse, which was disembowelled, was spitted on a large stump fully fifty feet from where the collision took place, and over twenty feet from the track.

The train was brought to a stand- still as soon as possible and the bodles carried to Mr. Chr. Hopp's reisdence, near by. Coroner Lackner was telephoned for, from Bramm's mill, and he, with Dr. Kalbfleisch, was soon on the scene. Examination showed that Mr. Snyder was past all earthly help- but Mrs. Snyder was partially conscious. She had sustained several broken ribs, the left arm was fractured near the elbow and she had two cuts on her head. She told her brother, Samuel S. Bowman, that they had left home to bring some money to Berlin to bank, but could not remember whether they had done so. She asked her brother to see if the money was still on her husband's body, and if so, to take charge of it. The brother asked Mr. J. K. Master to look through the dead man's clothes, and in the inside pocket of his vest, was found a savings bank book and $200-ten $20 bills. The book showed a credit balance of $1,444.61; the last deposit having been made in December last. The watch in his vest pocket was still going, and showed 5.20 when taken from his prostrate form.

Mrs. Snyder's injuries were dressed and she was conveyed to the Hospital in a hack, accompanied by her brother and Dr. Kalbflelsch. The remains of her life partner were entrusted to Undertaker Surarus.

The scene of the fatality was visited by hundreds of citizens as soon as the news spread, and morbid curiosity attracted far more women and little girls, than men, who crowded into the Hopp house in swarms to look upon the ghastly sight.

Deceased has a family of seven children surviving: they are, Amos, near Baden; Christian and Noah, at Hespeler; Samuel on the homestead, and Moses. The daughters are Mrs. Noah Bechtel, at Waldau, and Miss Sarah. There is only one brother living- Absolom, at Breslau; and two sisters -Mrs. Tobias Bowman, near Hespeler, and Mrs. Honsberger, New Dundee.

Coroner Lackner called an inquest for 10 o'clock on Tuesday.

THE INQUEST.

The coroner had the following gentlemen sworn in as jurors:

They visited the residence of Mr. Hopp and viewed the corpse of the old man, as well as the spot where the collision took place. After this, the coroner gave the relatives permission to prepare the remains for burial.

The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 o'clock from his late residence to the Shantz church, two miles west of St. Agatha

The Jury came hack to Berlin and took the evidence in the Grand Central.

The Evidence.

Walter Jones, fireman on the Galt train, was sworn, and said: My run is from Galt to Elmira: my train ran between Berlin and Galt yesterday afternoon; it is due to leave Berlin 2.50; yesterday we were seven minutes late; when we are late we try to make up time and were doing so in this case; when we are on time we run about a mile in three minutes - yesterday we were running between 30 and 25 miles an hour. I have no instructions regarding the speed to be run in the town limits. The engine whistled for Albert-st. crossing: we are to whistle a quarter mile before each crossing, and the bell is to be rang continuously until the cross is made; the whistle was blown about half way between the two crossings.
I was on the right side going down; first saw the buggy when we were past the bank to our right. The rig was about ten feet from the track; I gave the signal to stop, and the engineer threw down the brake. I saw the engine strike; the horse had pretty well crossed over. All I could see of the people was the woman's head: our train could have stopped in about 150 yards; we were about 25 yards away from the crossing when I gave the signal to my mate. We came to a standstill about 100 yards past the crossing; the man was lying beside the track on the road. I do not think the man saw the train coming: we could not try to make up our seven minutes from the station to Albert-st. I rang the bell.


J. W. Mitchell.-1 am engineer on the G.T.R. running from Elmira to Galt; went from Berlin to Galt on Monday afternoon: we were seven minutes late; left station at 2.57; instructions are to whistle at the different whistling posts, which are about 400 yards from the crossing; I whistled for the Albert-st. crossing as we crossed the Mill-st. crossing. My fireman told me we were going to strike a rig, about 30 or 10 yards from the crossing. I closed off the throttle, put down the brake and stopped the train; generally run from 20 to 25 miles an hour: were not going any faster than usual; have no special instructions to speed within the corporations. Have to keep the bell ringing for all crossings: Jones was doing this yesterday. The road is not a dangerous one.

G. Whitlock-Conductor I heard the whistle blow and felt the application ol the brakes, near the crossing: he was in the coach punching tickets as the time; heard the whistle for Albert-at. crossing.

Samuel B. Schneider-I saw the accident: I was on Mill st. at the time: saw the train cross Mill-st; had a full view of Albert-st crossing; heard the train whistle just before crossing Mill-st. Did not hear the bell ring. I saw the rig near the crossing; first about three or four rods from the track: the horse was walking the persons could easily see the train they had looked; I saw the train strike the rig; do not think the horse or driver saw the train, which struck both horse and rig. I do not think the Grand Trunk is to blame; I think the train was going its ordinary rate.

Mrs. Blankstein, living near Albert- st., crossing, saw the accident. Heard the train whistle three times. Saw the people drive by her house; both man and woman were awake.

The Verdict

The Jury decided enough evidence had been heard and draw up the following verdict:

We, the Jury empanelled to enquire as to the death of Moses K. Snyder, find that the deceased came to his death by being struck by & Grand Trunk engine on the Galt Branch, and that no blame is attached to any of the railway's employees in consequence of this accident.

Your Jury feel that, owing to the numerous accidents that have occurred in Berlin within the last few years at various crossings, the Grand Trunk Railway should provide gates for all crossings in Berlin.

SNYDER. - On the 23d of Oct. 1900, in Wilmot Twp., Ont., Bro. John K. Snyder, aged 63 years, 11 months and 17 days. We trust that according to his desire he went home to his resting place "to die no more." He suffered with Bright's disease over a year. Sometimes he had much pain, but was not confined to his home long. He was present at our recent communion meeting not long before his death, thus expressing his faith in the great atonement accomplished by the death and suffering of our Lord. He was married to Veronica Shantz, Mar. 26, 1861. To this union were born eleven children, one of whom died in infancy. He leaves a widow, ten children and eleven grandchildren. Buried at Shantz's grave yard, in Wilmot, Oct. 25th, 1900, followed by a large concourse of friends to his last resting place. Funeral services were conducted at the house by A. S. Cressman and by Joseph Nargang at the grave. In the meeting house the services were conducted by Orphan Wismer in English, from I Pet. 1: 24, 25, and in German by Noah Stauffer from 2 Cor. 5: 1.

Mr. John K. Snyder, a well-to-do and highly respected farmer of Wellesley died at 1.10 on Tuesday, after a lingering illness. Death was due to heart failure, brought on by many months of suffering from dropsy, and Bright's disease. He sustained a paralytic stroke a year or more since. Deceased was about 60 years old and was well thought of by all for his sterling integrity, industry and kind heartedness.

Snyder.--Absalom C. Snyder was born Sept. 2, 1841; died at his home in Breslau, Ont., June 7, 1913; aged 71 y. 9 m. 5 d. He was married to Elizabeth Cressman over 50 years ago and to this union were born 2 children, Lovina and Ozias. Lovina preceded him to the spirit world some years ago. There are left to mourn his departure his wife, 1 son, 10 grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Services were conducted by Enoch Bauman and Oscar Burkholder

Snyder. -Amos B., son of the late Moses K. and Lydia (Bechtel) Snyder, was born in Waterloo, Co., Ont., Sept. 30, 1854; died Dec. 26, 1937; aged 83 y. 2 m. 26 d. He was married to Mary Ann Kuntzenhauser Feb. 18, 1879. This union was blessed with 6 sons and 2 daughters. His beloved wife died March 7, 1896. Three sons died in infancy, Eli died in 1909 and Hannah in 1924. He stayed at the home of his daughter Lydia (Mrs. Joe Shantz) where he died after a brief illness. He leaves 1 daughter (Lydia), 2 sons (Isaac from the old homestead, and Arthur of near Wilmot Centre), 11 grandchildren, 3 brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 29 at the Shantz Church by Orphen Wismer and Manassah Hallman, and at the house by Moses Roth. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Bechtel Mary Ann, daughter of the late Moses K. and Lydia Snyder, was born Feb. 9, 1859 in Wilmot Tp., Ont.; died Feb. 4, 1932; aged 72 y. 11 m. 26 d. She was married to Noah C. Bechtel Mar. 7, 1882. This union was blessed with 6 daughters and 4 sons (of whom eight survive): Moses, Sarah Ann, Eden, Owen, Herbert (died 1912), Lucinda, Edna, Ida Elizabeth and Nettie. One brother, Samuel, also preceded her in death. She united with the Mennonite Church shortly after marriage and remained a faithful member until death. She had been an invalid for the last thirteen years, due to the effects of rheumatism. She bore her infirmity patiently, and was seldom heard to complain. She was a beautiful example of patience, meekness, and humility. The last three weeks of her life she suffered a general breakdown. She slept peacefully and calmly away. She leaves her husband, 4 brothers (Amos, Noah, Moses, and Christian), 1 sister (Sarah), 8 children 40 grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home by Bro. J.W. Witmer, and at the Latschar Mennonite Church at Manheim, Ont., by Bishop M.S. Hallman. Burial in adjoining cemetery.

Snyder-Christian B., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses K. Snyder, was born in Wilmot Twp., Jan. 12, 1862; passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ephraim Knetchel, Petersburg, Ont., April 19, 1944; aged 83y. Bro. Snyder's death was due to a heart attack a few days previous. He suffered from a weak heart for a number of years. He was married to Esther Bechtel who predeceased him June 4, 1940. To this union were born one son and 3 daughters; Percy, Rosebank; Edna ( Mrs. Ephraim Knechtel); Avon ( Mrs. Willard Witmer), Rosebank; and Ida (Mrs. Simon Hallman,) Kitchener, Ont.; who along with one brother (Moses), 28 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren all survive him. Bro. Snyder was a member of the Latschar church for many years. He was a quiet man, but he gave a silent testimony wherever he went because of his consistent life as a Christian. "He being dead, yet speaketh" Funeral services were conducted April 21 at his home in charge of Bro. Lorne W. Schmitt and at the Latschar Mennonite Church by Brethren M.S. Hallman and Lorne Schmitt. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Noah Snyder

Seriously ill for the past year, the death took place yesterday at the home of Waterloo Township of Noah Snyder in his 78^th year. The late Mr. Snyder was born in Wilmot, coming to the district when a young man and has reside here ever since. He was a faithful member of the Hagey's Mennonite Church. He is survived by his widow Nancy Rudy, one son, Alvin, at home, and town brothers, Christian and Moses at Mannheim. The late Mr. Snyder is resting at the H.K. Stager Funeral Home, Preston, until Thursday at 2 p.m. at which time removal will be made to the residence, Waterloo Township, for the funeral on Friday. Private serviced will be held at the residence at 2 p.m. after which public service will be held in Cressman's Mennonite Church, Interment will be in Cressman's Cemetery.

Snyder, --- Moses B., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses K. Snyder, was born near Baden, Ont. He passed on to be with the Lord, after an illness of 2 years, May 7, 1953, at the home of his daughter, New Hamburg, Ont.; aged 78 y. 2 m. 22 d. In December, 1903, he was married to Mary Wimer. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers (Amos, Sam, Christian, and Noah) and 2 sisters (Mary-Mrs. Noah Bechtel and Sarah.). Surviving are his wife, 3 children (Howard, Kitchener, Ont.; Gladys-Mrs. Lloyd Cressman, New Hamburg, Ont.; and Norma---Mrs. Gordon Shantz, New Dundee, Ont.). Jesse Parker, Norwalk, Ohio, who was raised in the home, and 10 grandchildren. He was converted in early life and united with the Shantz Mennonite Church. During the time of his membership at First Mennonite and at Erb Street he faithfully served the Lord while he loved and followed Him in a quiet and humble spirit of devotion. Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, Ont., in charge of J. B. Martin, assisted by Peter Cassel and C. C. Cressman.

NEW HAMBURG - Following an illness of two years, Moses B. Snyder, 78, died today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Cressman of New Hamburg. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses K. Snyder and was born near Baden, Feb. 15, 1875. He farmed for many years at RR 4, Stratford. Formerly a member of the King St. First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, he was more recently a member of the Erb St. Mennonite Church, Waterloo. His marriage to the former Mary Wismer, who survives him, took place in Dec. 1903 in Hespeler. He was the last surviving member of his family. His four brothers and two sisters predeceased him. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Howard of Kitchener and two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Gladys) Cressman of New Hamburg and Mrs. Gordon (Norma) Shantz of New Dundee. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. J.B. Martin of Waterloo will be in charge. The body is at the Ratz Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener until 5 p.m. Friday when removal will be made to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Cressman of New Hamburg, where they will remain until noon Saturday

Simon S. Cressman, 35 Pandora Ave., a resident of Kitchener for twelve years, passed away at his home on Monday afternoon in his 79th year, following a paralytic stroke. Deceased spent many years in Blenheim and 14 years at Baden. He is survived by a wife, one: brother, Christian, of Oxford. One daughter and a brother, Levi, predeceased him.

The funeral took place today (Thursday) with services at the home and at Sterling Avenue Mennonite Church, of which deceased was a member. Interment was made in the East End Mennonite cemetery. Rev. U. K. Weber, pastor of the church, officiated.

Cressman.-On Sept. 14th, 1894, in Blenheim Twp., Oxford Co., Ontario, Bro. Levi Cressman. He was born October 1st, 1858, and was aged 35 yrs., 11 mo., 14 d. He died of typhoid fever and pneumonia. A sorrowing widow and five small children are left, who mourn not as those who have no hope. He was buried in the Blenheim Mennonite cemetery on Sunday, September 16th, followed to his last resting place by a large number of people. Funeral services were conducted at the house by Bro. S. Gehman and at the church by Bro. J. Nahrgang in German, from Matt. 24: 44, and by Bro. I. A. Wambold in English, from Isa. 38: 1.

Bowman.-Benjamin Bowman was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Jan. 15, 1858; died at his home near New Hamburg, Ont., Sept. 7, 1936, after an illness of seven and a-half months; aged 78 y. 8 m. 23 d. Nearly 53 years ago he was married to Hannah Shantz. This union was blessed with 5 children, who with their mother survive him. This was the first time their home was visited by the messenger of death. The children are Weston of Toronto, Aaron on the homestead, Tobias of Kitchener, Minerva (Mrs. Titus Rosenberger) of Sask., and Annie at home. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, 4 brothers, and many other relatives and friends. He was a member of the Mennonite Church for many years and was seldom absent from church services until he was physically unable to attend. He lived in Waterloo Co., all his life with the exception of eleven years, when he with his wife and family lived in Michigan. Before he passed away he left testimony that all was well and that be was ready to meet his Lord. Funeral services were held Sept. 10 at the home and the Geiger Mennonite Church with Bros. M. Hallman and M. H. Roth in charge. The body was laid in the adjoining cemetery, there to rest till He comes.

Dilman S. Bowman passed away at the home of his son, Leslie Bowman, 81 Krug Street, early today after a short illness. Mr Bowman was 79 years of age. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tobias Bowman he was born in Wilmot Township, Oct. 23, 1862. He was a member of Bethany Mennonite Church. Mr. Bowman was married May 27, 1883, at Doon to Catherine Baer who survives him with four sons, Leslie, Harvey, and Myron of Kitchener and Vernon of Toronto, one daughter, Mrs. T. H. Cochrane, Sunnyside, and three brothers, Levi Bowman of Kossuth, Tobias of Nut Mountain, Sask., and Enos, also in Saskatchewan. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at Bethany Mennonite Church at 2: 14. Interment will take place in Hagey Cemetery, Preston. Rev. C. N. Good, pastor, will officiate. The remains will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

Hunsperger.-Delman, son of Moses and Elizabeth (Snyder) Hunsperger, was born in Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., April 20, 1870; died at his home Jan. 11, 1949; after a lingering illness, aged 78 y. 8 m. 21 d. He spent his youth in Wilmot Twp. On Dec. 10, 1902, he was married to Lydia Ann Nahrgang, also of Wilmot. They lived their entire married life in the vicinity of Preston, Ont. In early manhood he accepted Christ and united with the Mennonite Church. The greater part of his life he was in fellowship with the Wanner congregation, where he was a member at the time of his death. Surviving are his wife, 2 daughters and one son (Mary-Mrs. Cecil Gingrich, Kitchener, Ont.; Edna, senior at Goshen College, and Enan, who lives on the home farm), 6 grandchildren, and one sister (Mrs. Lovina Cober, Stayner, Ont.). One brother and 3 sisters (Veronica, Susanna-Mrs. David Geiger, Hespeler, Ont.; Magdalena, Kitchener; Jonas, Wilmot Twp.) predeceased her. Funeral services were held at the Wanner Mennonite Church on Jan. 13, in charge of J. W. Witmer, assisted by Merle Shantz. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Dilman Hunsperger

PRESTON, Jan. 11. Former Preston resident and resident of Waterloo Township, for the past 42 years, Dilman Hunsperger, died at his home, at 12: 30 this morning, at the age of 78 years. He had been ailing for 18 months, but had been seriously ill only a few days. Born in Wellesley Township, Mr. Hunsperger, resided there until his marriage, 46 years ago, when he made his home, in Preston, residing here four years and then moving to the farm in Waterloo Township, where he resided until the time of his death. He was a member of the Wanner Mennonite Church. Surviving is his widow, the former Lydia Ann Nahrgang; a son, Enan, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Mary) Gingrich of Sunnyside and Miss Edna Hunsperger at Goshen College, Ind. and a sister, Mrs. Lovina Cover of Stayner. The body will rest at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home, until 1 o'clock, Thursday, then at Wanner Mennonite Church for service, at 2: 30. A short service will be held at the family residence, at 2 p.m. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Ephriam S. Snyder, 88, died at his home in Baden on Tuesday. Born in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John K Snyder, he farmed north of Baden for many years. He was a life-long member of Shantz Mennonite Church. His marriage to Emma Horst took place in North Easthope in 1885. Surviving are three sons, Homer and Edgar, Baden; Harley of Glendale, Calif.; and three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Elmina) Holwell and Mrs. Clara Schmidt, both of Baden, and Mrs. Percy (Margaret) Hofstetter, Plattsville; three brothers, Irvin Snyder, Baden; Dilman Snyder, Waterloo, and Herman, North Easthope; four sisters, Mrs. Nelson (Barbara) Shantz, Miss Annie Snyder and Mrs. Noah (Fannie) Snyder of Waterloo, and Mrs. Elam (Olivia) Axt of New Hamburg. Twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 2.30 p.m. with private service at the home, followed by a public service at Shantz Mennonite Church at 3.00 p.m. with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. L. H. Witmer, pastor of the church will officiate.

Dilman S. Snyder, 83, of 125 Erb St. West, Waterloo, died Feb. 25 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John K. Snyder and a native of Wilmot Township. He farmed at RR 2, Baden, until his retirement in 1946 and had lived in Waterloo for the past 14 years.

Mr, Snyder was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden.

He married Ida Weber in 1908 and she died in 1943. He married Nora Hunsberger in 1946 and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, John W. of RR 2, Baden, and Ralph C. of Vineland; two daughters. Mrs. Clayton (Vera) Shantz and Mrs, LeRoy (Alice) Good of RR 2, Baden; a brother, Herman of Kitchener; three sisters, Mrs. Nelson (Barbara) Shantz of Elmira, Mrs. Noah (Veronica) Snyder and Annie of Waterloo, and 14 grandchildren. Two sisters and four brothers predeceased him.

Lovina Cressman

Lovina Snyder, daughter of Bro. Absalom and Sister Elizabeth (Cressman) Snyder of Breslau, Ont., was born June 8, 1864; was married to Bro. Moses S. Cressman, Sept. 20, 1882. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. The surviving children, her husband, parents, brother and large circle of relatives and friends mourn not as those who have no hope, for Sister Cressman united with the church in her early youth and was a faithful member until she was called home, on the 1st of October, 1906, at the age of 42 Y., 3 M., 23 D. Her remains were laid to rest on the 3d in the graveyard adjoining the Cressman M. H., Breslau, where services were conducted by Bish. Jonas Snider of Waterloo from Rev. 14: 13 and by Pre. I. A. Wambold from Phil. 1: 21. The esteem in which Sister Cressman was held was shown by the unusually large concourse that gathered at her burial, not nearly all of the people being able to get into the meeting-house. Sister Cressman suffered for some time of dropsical affection, but seemed to be improving until suddenly she became worse and soon passed away. May God bless our bereaved brother and his children, as well as the parents, brother and the other relatives.

Snyder.-Ozias, son of Absalom C. and Elizabeth (Cressman) Snyder, was born at Breslau, Ont., Nov. 13, 1866; died at his home in Breslau July 8, 1930; aged 63 y. 7 m. 25 d. Jan. 29, 1890, he was married to Anna Betzner of Breslau, who died in 1893. This union was blessed with two daughters, Elenora and a child who died in infancy. Sept. 15, 1897, he was married to Barbara S. Burkholder of Markham, who died in 1908. To this union were born a son (Elvin) and 3 daughters (Ada, Edith, and Katie Florence who died in infancy). Feb. 19, 1911, he was married to Matilda Snyder of New Dundee, who died in 1925. He is survived by a son (Elvin, missionary in Argentina), 3 daughters (Mrs. Enoch Bauman, Mrs. Abner Rudy, and Ada at home), 2 grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. He united with the Church in May, 1891. His quiet, consistent example, as a brother and Sunday school teacher, was appreciated by the loved ones and many friends. While the family felt keenly the absence at the funeral of Bro. Elvin and his wife in South America, they were somewhat comforted to know he had received the message announcing his father's death and were able to have word again from Elvin on the day of the funeral, the cablegram reading as follows: "Deeply grieved to hear the sad news. Accept sincere sympathy. We condole with you in our mutual and great loss. See word of comfort in II Tim. 1: 10. We continually remember you in our prayers." Funeral services were conducted at the home by Bro. Newton S. Weber, followed by Bro. S. F. Coffman. Bro. Weber spoke briefly at the church on Dan. 12: 3, after which Bro. Jonas Snider preached the funeral sermon. Text, I Cor. 15: 54. Remains laid to rest in cemetery adjoining Breslau Church, where the services were held.

Shantz.-Sarah Ann, beloved wife of Herman Shantz and eldest daughter of the late Jacob B. Schmitt, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Jan. 12, 1870; was married to Herman Shantz Jan. 1, 1891. This union was blessed with 3 sons and 6 daughters. She was the first of her family to answer the death summons from on high. Disease gripped her body and for 18 months her health gradually failed and she fell peacefully asleep on the morning of Feb. 1,1937; aged 67 y. 20 d. She leaves her deeply bereaved husband, 3 sons, 6 daughters, 19 grandchildren, 3 brothers, 3 sisters,. and many relatives and friends. May God comfort the bereaved family. As a mother in the home, she tried to lead her family into the fold of Christ. May God reward her labors. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit. That they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them." Funeral services were conducted Feb. 1 by Bros. Orphen Wismer and Manassah Hallman at the Shantz Church near Baden. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

On Feb. 26, 1908 he was married to Ella Shantz, who survives. Also surviving are 4 sons (Weston, Lowville, N.Y.; Elvin and Wilfred, Kitchener, Ont.; Elroy, Preston, Ont.), 3 daughters (Winifred - Mrs. Morgan Witzel, and Mary, Baden, Ont.; and Leona - Mrs. Camley Harbridge, Gravenhurst, Ont.), one brother (Emmanuel, Petersburg, Ont.), and 3 sisters (Mrs. Jeremiah Good, New Hamburg, Ont.; Mrs. David Shantz, of Baden; and Mrs. John Boshart, Watertown, N.Y.). He was a member of the Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden, Ont., from the time of his youth. Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at the home and at the Shantz Church, in charge of L. H. Witmer and C. C. Her husband, Joseph Shantz, died May 15, 1942. Mrs. Shantz was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church. Surviving are two sons, Vernon, and Wayne, both of RR 2, Petersburg; two daughters, Mrs. David (Louise) Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. David (Alice) Cressman, RR 2, New Hamburg, and six grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from her home, RR 2, New Hamburg, to Geiger Mennonite Church for services at 2: 30. Rev. Moses H. Roth, pastor, will officiate. Snyder - Bro. Eli Snyder, eldest son of Bro. Amos Snyder of Waterloo Co., Ont., was born March 17, 1887; died Jan. 16, 1909; aged 21 y. 10 m. Burial in Shantz's cemetery. He leaves a sorrowing father, two sisters and two brothers to mourn his early departure, his mother having died thirteen years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Bish. Jonas Snyder in German from Matt. 24: 44, and Bro. Orphan Wismer in English from Luke 12: 40, both brethren having chosen the same text. "Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh." Bro. Eli died very suddenly. He left his home on Saturday evening in company with several others to make a short visit at their neighbor's but barely reached the place when he began to feel sick and asked his brother to fetch the doctor. With the assistance of his sister he walked into the house; they got him into a rocking chair and he died in a few minutes without another word. He died of heart failure. What a loud call to the young, and not only to the young but to us all to "prepare to meet our God." This again shows to us the brevity of life. Life is uncertain and death is sure. But I am glad we need not mourn as those who have no hope. Bro. Eli united with the church several years ago, and we trust our loss is his eternal gain. May God comfort the bereaved family

Arthur Snyder, of 48 Brewery Street, Baden, died April 9 at the Lakeview Nursing Home, Kitchener, at the age of 72 years.

The late Mr. Snyder was born June 16, 1895 in Wilmot Township. He was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church, Baden.

He is survived by his wife, the former Lilly May Witmer, whom he married September 22, 1920, at Mannheim. Also surviving are one son, Vernice, of Baden; three daughters, Mrs. Delfred (Pearl) Bechtel, and Mrs. Henry (Ethel) Roth, both of Baden, and Mrs. Lorne (Ruth) Bowman of Waterloo; a brother, Isaac, of Baden; 22 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Ray, in 1947.

The funeral service was held Thursday afternoon at Geiger Mennonite Church with Rev. Lester Bauman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Owen S. Bechtel of RR 2, Kitchener, died today at the K-W Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 80. Born in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah Bechtel, he farmed in the township until his retirement in 1952. He was a member of Mannheim Mennonite Church. His first wife, the former Melissa Knechtel, died in 1936. Survivors include his second wife, the former Margaret Gingerich; five sons, Clinton of Kitchener, Leonard of Doon, Delfred of Baden, Eldon of Preston, and Lloyd of Doon; three daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Elsie) Eby, Petersburg, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary June) Willsie, Kitchener and Mrs. David (Avon) Burkholder, Edmonton; a brother Eden, Kitchener; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Knarr, Preston, Mrs. John (Ida) Shantz, Breslau, Mrs. Edna Lugibihl, Pandora, Ohio, and Mrs. Roy (Nettie) Snider, Milverton; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ruby, in 1939 and by two sisters and two brothers. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home from noon Friday until noon Saturday. The service will be conducted at the Mannheim Mennonite Church at 3 p.m. Saturday by Rev. Gordon Bauman. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Donations to the Ontario Mennonite Mission Board will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

Owen S. Bechtel of RR 2, Kitchener, died last Thursday at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital at the age of 80.

Born in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah Bechtel, he farmed in the township until his retirement in 1952. He was a member of Mannheim Mennonite Church.

His first wife, the former Melissa Knechtel, died in 1936.

Mrs. Isaiah Dettweiler

Mrs. Isaiah Dettweiler, 67, of RR 2, Breslau, died Sunday at her home after a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 1, 1893, in Wilmot Township, a resident of Breslau for the past 41 years, she was a member of the Cressman Mennonite Church, Breslau. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah Bechtel, the former Lucinda Bechtel married Isaiah Dettweiler Nov. 20, 1918, in Waterloo Township.

Surviving besides her husband are four sons, Harold and Glenn of Breslau and Ward and Clarke of Preston; four daughters, Mrs. Laverne (Margaret) Good, Ruby and Norma, all of Breslau and Mrs. John (Mary) Sayer of Carstairs, Alta.; two brothers, Eden and Owen Bechtel both of Kitchener; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Knarr of Kitchener, Mrs. John Shantz of Breslau, Mrs. Edna Lugibihl of Pandora, Ohio; Mrs. Roy Snyder of Millbank and 16 grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Wed- nesday when removal will be made to Cressman Mennonite Church, Breslau. Friends may pay their respects until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery and Rev. Carl J. Rudy will officiate.

Mrs. John H. Shantz

Mrs. John H. Shantz of Breslau died on Tuesday of last week in hospital at Boise, Idaho, while on vacation in Western Canada and the United States. She was 75.

Mrs. Shantz was the former Ida Bechtel, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah Bechtel. She was born in Waterloo Township and lived in Breslau for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Breslau Mennonite Church and the women's missionary service auxiliary..

Surviving are her husband; one son, Lowell of Breslau; five daughters, Mrs. Morgan (Mae) Baer of RR 2, Baden, Jean Shantz of Scarborough, Mrs. Norman (Ella) Gascho of Breslau, Norma Shantz of Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisburg, Va., and Mrs. Arnold (Helen) MacDonald of North Augusta, Ont. and one brother, Eden Bechtel of RR2, Kitchener.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Alvin (Edna) Lugibihl of Pandora, Ohio, Mrs. Roy (Nettie) Snyder of Milverton and Mrs. Sarah Knarr of Preston, and 16 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

She was in failing health with a rheumatic heart, but was not considered serious until the last six days, when she was stricken with the most servere form of St. Vitus dance, which brought the end speedily. Mr. Snyder was a member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, where he served for many years as Sunday school teacher, chairman of the stewardship board and church council. He was one of the founders of the Mennonite Credit Union. A retired employee of Bell Canada and former general manager-treasurer of the Ontario Telephone Employees Credit Union. From 1942 to 1945, he served in England with Corps of Canadian Fire Fighters. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, until noon Tuesday, when removal will be made to First Mennonite Church for funeral service at 3 p.m., with Rev. Glenn Brubacher and Brice Balmer officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Donations to the Mennonite Central Committee as expressions of sympathy, would be appreciated. She was a member of the Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. She was the daughter of late Levi Cressman and the former Leah Schmitt. Sister of John of Cambridge, Mrs. Effie Snyder of New Hamburg; six nieces and eight nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her parents; one brother, Ervin and one sister, Mrs. Joseph (Sadie) Steckley. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W. ,Kitchener, after 2 p. m. today, until noon Thursday, when removal will be madeto Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, for funeral service at 3 p. m. , with Rev. Steckly. - Sister Sadie Cressman, beloved wife of Bro. Joe J. Steckly of near Carstairs, Alta., died on Oct. 11, 1925. She was born near Kitchener, Ont., on July 30, 1887. She leaves a sorrowing husband and three children (Irene, Lyle and Merl), also a mother, sister, and two brothers, in Kitchener, Ont. She had cancer but on taking treatment in Linden, Ont., hope was held out for her recovery. She came home just about six weeks before her death happy to be in her home. Sister Sadie was of a cheerful and loving disposition, so is greatly missed by her many friends. She was patient in her suffering and expressed her longing to depart and be where there is no more pain. The funeral was held on Oct. 16, Bro. N. B. Stauffer of Aldersyde preaching an impressive sermon. Bro. N. R. Weber and the home minister, Bro. H. J. Harder, assisted. Sadie was laid away to await the call of her Lord, in the cemetery near the church where she was used to worship.

PRESTON, April 29— Edwin Bowman, 62, life-long Preston resident, died at the K-W Hospital yesterday, failing to recover from a recent operation. Born in Waterloo Township he had lived in Preston since early childhood, coming here from Doon. For the past 50 years he was employed at the Canadian Office and School Furniture, and was foreman of the cabinet room. A member of St. Paul's United Church, he was elder of the session for a long period of years, was formerly treasurer of the Missionary and Maintenance for many years and was a member of the local 1.0.0.F. Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Ida Jane Roesgen; a daughter, Helen; and a sister, Mrs. Samuel Shantz, Preston. Two brothers, Clayton Bowman of Aylmer, Quebec, and Milton Bowman, of Detroit and a sister, Mrs. Cyrus Shantz, predeceased him. The remains are resting at his residence, 516 Hamilton Street, until Monday, at 10 am., The funeral from the Stager-Pass Funeral Home, will be held on Monday at 2.30. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery.

A well-known farmer of Wilmot Township, Aaron Bowman of Preston, died Saturday in South Waterloo Hospital. Galt. He was 75.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bowman, he was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Selinda Cressman; two sons. Stanley of RR 2. Petersburg and Delton of RR 2. New Hamburg; two daughters. Mary of Kitchener and Anna of Toronto: one brother. Weston of Kitchener, one sister, Annie of Kitchener and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his twin hrother and a sister.

Funeral service was held at the Geiger Mennonite Church on Wednesday

Burial was held in the church cemetery.

TOBIAS BOWMAN

Tobias Bowman, Kitchener died January 23 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief Illness. He was 75.

Bom in Wilmot Township Dec. 6, 1892, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bowman. He has been a Twin City resident for the past 44 years, he was a member of First Mennonlte Church and had been employed by the Kitchener Coal Co. Ltd. for 40 years before his retirement in 1962.

Surviving are his wife, the former Sybilla Schweitzer, whom he married in Kitchener Dec. 19, 1917; one son, Robert G. of Kitchener; one daughter, Dorothy, also of Kitchener; two brothers, a twin, Aaron, and Weston, both of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Minerva Rosenherger of Nipiwan, Sask., and Annie of Kitchener, and two grandchildren.

The service was held at First Mennonite Church Kitchener, Thursday afternoon. Rev. Robert N. Johnson, minister of the church, and Rev. F.W. Zinck, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, officiated. Temporary entombment was made in Woodland mausoleum, and burial will follow in First Mennonite Cemetery.

Beniah Bowman (March 14, 1886 - April 13, 1941) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Manitoulin in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1918 to 1926 and Algoma East in the Canadian House of Commons from 1926 to 1930 as a United Farmers member. He was born in Waterloo County, Ontario . He was elected in an 1918 by-election held after the death of Robert Roswell Gamey , becoming the first member of his party to sit in the provincial assembly. He was re-elected in the 1919 provincial election in which the UFO staged an upset victory to form a coalition government with Independent Labour MLAs. Bowman was Minister of Lands and Forests in the provincial cabinet from 1920 to 1923. He broke with the majority of UFO MLAs in Ontario following the 1923 provincial election when what had become known as the Progressive Party chose non-farmer William Edgar Raney as its leader. Instead, he and two other UFO MLAs sat as their own rump caucus, apart from the Progressives. Bowman left provincial politics in 1926 to enter federal politics and was elected as a UFO MP for Algoma East to the Canadian House of Commons . In the 1930 federal election , he ran unsuccessfully for re-election as a Liberal in 1930.

Nuptials

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Barr, of Long Bay, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Sept. 1st, when their youngest daughter, Miss Mary B., was united in marriage to the Rev. Mr. Bowman, of Owen Sound, in the presence of about fifty guests.

At three o'clock the bridal party took their place under a neatly arranged arch of evergreens and flowers, and the bride, who was given away by her father, looked very pretty dressed in white Persian trimmed with lace insertion and wore a knot of bridal wreath flowers in her hair and carried a boquet of white China Asters.The bridesmaid, Miss M. Bowman, sister of the groom, wore a suit of white linen and looked very charming. The groom was able supported by Frank S. Paisley, cousin of the bride. Rev. Mr. Fretz, of Spring Bay, tied the knot.

After the ceremony the company sat down to a dainty repast prepared by the bride's mother, which everyone enjoyed and did ample justice to.

After remaining a few days with the bride's parents, the happy couple left Berlin, Hamilton and other points east. The bride's traveling suit was of blue ladies cloth and hat to match.

Mr. and Mrs. Bowman were the recipient of many beautiful present, chiefly silverware. Everybody joins in wishing the young couple a long and prosperous life.

Beniah Bowman Dies in Toronto on Easter - Had been Ill for some time
Head of Dept. of Lands and Forests in the Drury Administration - 1941


In poor health for some time, Beniah Bowman, who was Minister of Lands and Forests in the U.F.O. Government of Ontario, from 1919 to 1923, died in Toronto on Easter Sunday.

Mr. Bowman, who had been a resident of Manitoulin Island since 1911, entered politics in 1918 when he was elected to the Ontario Legislature as an independent farmers' candidate at a bye-election. He was again returned to the Legislature in 1919 and was appointed Minister of Lands and Forests under Premier E.C. Drury and held that position till the defeat in the general elections of 1926 when he ran as Liberal candidate for Algoma East.

Mr. Bowman was of United Empire Loyalist stock, was born in Waterloo County and received his education in the Public schools of Doon and Hespeler. Since 1911 he had been engaged in farming at Long Bay, near Gore Bay, Manitoulin. He was interested in lumbering and fishing industries and was connected with the Blind River Pine Co.

Homer Snyder

Following a brief illness, Homer Snyder of R.R. 2, Baden, passed away at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital last Saturday afternoon, at the age of 66 years. The deceased was a son of Mrs. Ephraim Snyder and the late Mr. Snyder and was born in Wilmot Twp. on June 7th, 1886. Following his marriage to Annie Kennel of Shakespeare on March 28, 1917, he resided on Erb's Road, north-east of Baden. He is survived by his widow, and one son, Ward, of Kitchener, and his mother. A daughter. Mrs. Howard (Hilda) Shantz, predeceased him in July of this year.

Also surviving are two brothers, Edgar, Baden; Harley, Glendale, Cal., three sisters, Mrs. Walter Holwell, Mrs. Clara Schmidt; both of Baden, and Mrs. Percy Hofstetter, Plattsville. He leaves five grandsons.

Funeral services were held at the Shantz Mennonite Church, north of Baden on Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Bruce Amy, pastor of Lisbon Evangelical-United Brethren Church, of which deceased was a member. Burial was made in the Lisbon Church cemetery.

Mrs. Snyder, was predeceased by a brother, Delton in 1982 and is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Snyder of Baden. Mrs. Snyder, was born in Wilmot township, the daughter of the late Ervin Snyder and the former Nancy Nahrgang. She was a member of the Wanner Mennonite Church and a strong supporter of many of the church's institutions and programs. Mrs. Snyder was especially interested in the Women's Missionary and Service Auxiliary, was an active church and community historian and a life member of the Maple Grove Women's Institute.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Oct. 23, from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday afternoon, from 2: 30, until time of service in Wanner Mennonite Church at 4 p.m. Interment Wanner Mennonite cemetery.

Baden Man Dies 3 Days After Crash

STRATFORD - A third person has died as a result of injuries in a two-car collision on Highway 7 and 8, three miles south of Stratford, Tuesday. Delton N. Snyder, 58 of Baden, driver of one of the cars died in Stratford General Hospital early today. Rev. George Lamont of Knox Presbyterian Church, Mitchell, and his wife, Kathleen Ruth, 47, were instantly killed. Mr. Snyder had been reported in good condition following the accident. Born March 6, 1903 in Wilmot Township, he was the proprietor of Snyder Transport Limited and a director of Toronto Milk Transporters.

He was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden, and vice-president of the Baden Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his wife, the former Beatrice Miller, whom he married in Kitchener in 1927, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sylvester (Betty) Yantzi and Mrs. Vernice (Myrtle) Snyder, both of Baden; his father, Ervin, of Hespeler; one sister, Mrs. Oliver A. Snyder, of Hespeler, and seven grand-children. A son Donald Bruce, predeceased him in 1947. The body is resting at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Monday when it will be removed to Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden, where Rev. Leslie Witmer will conduct the service at 2: 30 p.m. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Reier - Sister Agnes, wife of Bro. Reinzie Reier, after five months of illness, passed to be with the Lord on the evening of Dec. 13, 1934. She was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Sept. 19, 1887, and had reached her 48th year. She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, Ont. She is survived by her husband, 1 son (Eldrid of near Kitchener), 3 daughters (Erma, Alice, and Doris, all at home), her mother (Mrs. Barbara Shantz of Waterloo), 3 brothers (Clayton Shantz, Troy, N. Y.; Lorne Shantz, Waterloo, and Clarence Shantz of Detroit, Mich.), and 1 sister (Mrs. John Lichty of Waterloo). She was a consistent Christian, dying in the gracious assurance of the Gospel. She was an interested mother in the welfare of her home. Her interest in the Church was constant. For many years she was caretaker of the Church building. This brought her into contact with the many activities of the church. Thus she was well known. She will be missed in the home and circles beyond, especially for her cheery disposition, in spite of clouds, keeping that steadfast gaze and trust in God. May the Lord sustain, and guide the family in spite of their great loss. The services were in charge of the pastor, Bro. C. F. Derstine. Theme, "The Inescapable Appointment" (Eccl. 8: 8). Bro. Manasseh Hallman, a former pastor, assisted in the service. All services and burial at the First Mennonite Church.

Reta peacefully passed away at Spruce Manor Nursing Home in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan on the morning of September 17, 2011. She is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Snyder, of Waterloo, brother-in-law Lyle and Jean Shantz; sons Ross (Betty) and Neil (Corinne); five grandchildren Troy (Heather), Ryan (Sarah), Cory, Reagan, and Renee (Ryan) Campbell; as well as five great-grandchildren Libby, Callum, Tully, Kellie, and Evlyn all of Saskatchewan. Reta was born at Waterloo, Ontario as the third of four children. She married Arnold Shantz from Guernsey, Saskatchewan, November 6, 1943. Reta and Arnold moved back to Saskatchewan in the spring of 1946 to begin a long career in farming near Guernsey where they partnered with Lyle (Arnold's brother) and his wife Jean. Sharon Mennonite Church was Mom's spiritual home for many years. She was faithful in serving in so many aspects of the church community. Her faith in God was most vividly expressed as she lived her life each day. She thoroughly enjoyed her family and friends as well as her hobbies of gardening, caring for her yard, and quilting. Her quilts were amazing and frequently brought many bids at the annual MCC sale in Saskatoon. She loved having her family and friends visit from Ontario. She was a wonderful Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Reta's life at the Philadelphia Mennonite Church near Watrous, Saskatchewan on Friday, September 23 at 2: 00 p.m. The family would appreciate if memorial donations were made to THE GIDEONS. A private family interment will be at the Sharon Church Cemetery at 10: 30 a.m. Friday morning.

Predeceased by her brother, John W. Snyder (May, 1991); sister, Alice Good (January, 1982); in-laws, Leota and Ed Feick, Lloyd and Beatrice Shantz, Vernon Witmer, Ward and Mabel Shantz and two grandchildren, Chad Roeder in November, 1977 and Traci Stager in February, 1996. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Her generous deeds were appreciated by many who received her casseroles, salads and baked goods at many times during the year. She had a great love of flowers, quilting, gardening and ceramics.

Friends may call at the Westmount Funeral Home and Chapel, 1001 Ottawa St. S., today (Monday), 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Pioneer Park Christian Fellowship Mennonite Church on Wednesday, August 21, 1996 at 2 p.m. Interment at the Shantz Mennonite Cemetery.

He was born in Wilmot township 75 years ago, a son of the late Dilman Snyder and the former Ida Weber. He had farmed at RR 2, Baden until his retirement and was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden, where he had been involved in the church activities all of his life. John was a member of the Gideons for over 20 years.
Beloved husband of Mabel Yoder whom he married October 5, 1941. Lovingly remembered by his children, Paul and his wife Florence, James and his wife Mary Lou, J. Keith and his wife Patricia, all of RR 2, Baden, Mary Lou Baechler of New Hamburg, Nancy and her husband Roy Wilhelm of Waterloo. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren; one brother, Ralph and his wife Eileen of Vineland Station; one sister, Vera and her husband Clayton Shantz of Cambridge (P). John was predeceased by one sister, Alice (Mrs. LeRoy Good).
