    Shantz, -- Ezra, son of John D. and Elizabeth (Steiner) Shantz was born Sept. 12, 1869; died March 22, 1955; aged 85 y 6 m. 10 d. On Feb. 19, 1893, he was married to Annie Loucks, who preceded him in Dec., 1952. He was ordained deacon of Shantz Church in 1911 and served faithfully for many years. Surviving are 6 sons (John of Breslau; Elmer of Kitchener; Eldon of New Dundee; Jacob and William of Baden, and Joseph of Wellsley), 3 daughters (Katherine-Mrs. Alvin Lantzer, Goshen, Ind.; Sarah-Mrs. Leonard Horst, Newbury, Ont., and Mary, Baden, Ont.), 2 sisters (Sarah-Mrs. George Weber, Lizzie-Mrs. Solomon Gehman), 23 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 26 at the Shantz Church, Baden, Ont., conducted by L. H. Witmer, M. H. Roth, and C.C. Cressman, with burial in adjoining cemetery.

    SHANTZ, John H.

    On Monday, April 14, 1980, at Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, John Henry Shantz, in his 86th year, formerly of Breslau.

    Survived by his son, Lowell of Route 2, Walkerton; his five daughters, Mrs. Morgan (Mae) Baer of Route 2, Baden, Jean of Scarborough, Mrs. Norman (Alice) Gascho of Breslau, Norma of Route 2, Baden and Mrs. Arnold (Helen) McDonald of Route 1, Cornwall; his two brothers, Elmer of Kitchener, and Eldon of Flesherton; his two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Sarah) Horst of Newbury and Mrs. Alvin (Mary) Lantzer of Goshen, Ind.; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, the former Ida Bechtel in 1969; three brothers, Jacob, Joseph and William; a sister, Catherine; and a granddaughter, Barbara Gascho.

    He was a member of the Breslau Mennonite Church and had been employed at Uniroyal (General Products Division) Ltd. for 28 years, until retiring in 1959.

    Friends called at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, until noon on Thursday, then at Breslau Mennonite Church, for the funeral service. Rev. Erwin Wiens officiated. Interment in the Breslau Mennonite Cemetery.

    Mr. Shantz was a member of Zion United Church and was a route salesman with Burkhardt and Westside Dairies for 35 years.

    Beloved husband of the former Eva Bachert, with whom he celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary, January 9. 1989. Dear father of Dorothy and her husband Nicholas Harder of Waterloo; brother of Eldon Shantz of Kitchener and Mrs. Mary Lantzer of Goshen, Ind. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, June Dietrich, John Harder, Anne and her husband Robert Shells, Kathryn and her husband Gordon Young and Patricia Harder and his great-grand-children, Charles and Dorothy Dietrich and Jay Shells.

    Predeceased by his parents, Ezra and Anna Shantz; four brothers, John, Jacob, Joseph and William and two sisters, Catherine and Sarah.

    Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, after 7 p.m. Tuesday, continuing until the funeral and committal service in the Ratz-Bechtel Chapel. on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Damen Welsh officiating. Interment Woodland cemetery.

    Memorial donations to the Arthritis Society, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Reception to follow in the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. We love you, Poppy and will miss you.

    Shantz, Jacob A., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Shantz, was born in Indiana, June 7, 1903; died at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, Aug. 31, 1963; aged 60 y. 2 m. 24 d. In 1927 he was married to Nettie Groff, who survives. Also surviving are 5 sons (Vernon, Leon, Glen, Carson, and Peter), 6 grandchildren, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. He was a member of the Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at the Erb Street Church, Sept. 3, in charge of J. B. Martin, assisted by Leslie Witmer.

    JOSEPH ERWIN SHANTZ

    Joseph Erwin Shantz, 59, RR 1, Wellesley, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener.

    Born in Wilmot Township, Oct. 11, 1908, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Shantz. He was a member of the Wellesley Community Missionary Church and for the past 23 years he has worked at Kitchener.

    Surviving are his wife, the former Esther Dorsch whom he married Aug. 2, 1938; two sons, Burnell, Kitchener; Larry, Wellesley; two daughters, Miss Joyce and Miss Lyla, both of Kitchener; four brothers, John, Breslau; Elgin, New Dundee; Elmer, Kitchener; William, Vineland; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Sarah) Horst; Newbury; Mrs. Alvon (Mary) Lantzer, Goshen, Ind.

    The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at Wellesley Community Church with temporary entombment following in St. Paul's Cemetery Chapel. Later burial will take place at Oetzel's Church cemetery at Philipsburg. Rev. Lynn Snyder and Rev. T. Losch officiated.

    Joseph married Esther Adeline Dorsch 2 Aug 1938. Esther (daughter of Archibald Frederick Dorsch and Emma Rebecca Schmidt) was born 11 Jul 1909, North Easthope Twp., Perth Co., Ontario, Canada; died 6 Mar 1975, Kitchener, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; was buried , Rushes Cemetery, Wellesley Twp., Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada.
