Edward A. Gambling

PRESTON, Edward Alfred Gambling, 81, of 212 Laurel St., Preston, died Wednesday, at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt. He had been confined to hospital for two weeks. Born in London, England, he came to Preston in 1912. He was an engineer at the local Public Utility Commission, for 32 years and has been retired for the past eight years Mr. Gambling received the first medal given by the PUC for saving a child's life, in Preston. He was a member of the IOOF lodge and Encampment and served in the First World War. Mr. Gambling was an Anglican and a past president of the local Canadian Legion. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Elizabeth Angell, in July 1958 and one daughter Elizabeth, in 1930. Surviving are one son, Edward of Preston, three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Louise) Murray of Preston, Mrs. Willard (Dorothy) Rohr of Kitchener and Mrs. Beattie (Ethel) Gibson of Detroit; one brother, James of Preston and one brother and two sisters in England, four grandchildren. The body will he at the Stager-Barthel Funeral Home, where service will he conducted Saturday, at 2 p.m. Burial will he in Preston Park Lawn Cemetery. Rev. R. T. Appleyard, will officiate.

Of 109 Oak St., Preston, at the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, April 5, 1972, James Gambling, beloved husband of Rose Churchward and dear father of Lewis, Jack, David, all of Preston and Helen (Mrs. Ken Smart) of Preston; also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Gambling came to Preston from Greenwich, England, in 1919, served in the British Army in World War One and in World War Two in the Veterans Guard of the OPP of Canada, member of the St. John's Anglican Church, Preston. Resting at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, where funeral service will be conducted Saturday, at 2 p.m. Interment in Park Lawn cemetery.

Maudie Gambling, beloved wife of the late Jack Murray (1982), dear mother of Joyce and her husband Lloyd Elrick of Cambridge. Lovingly remembered by 2 grandchildren, Chris and Angela and her husband Jamie Szabatiu, all of Cambridge and 2 sisters, Dorothy and her husband Willard Rohr and Ethel Gibson, all of Kitchener. Predeceased by her parents, 1 brother, Ted Gambling and 1 sister, Elizabeth Bilton. Mrs. Murray was born in England and was a long time resident of Cambridge. She worked at Canada Trust, Preston for a long time and retired in 1968. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, on Tuesday, 7 - 9 p.m. The Funeral and Committal Services will be conducted by Rev. Beth Bower, at the Funeral Home, on Wednesday, February 2, 1994, at 1: 30 p.m. Interment following in Park Lawn Cemetery, Cambridge. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.

ARTHUR GAMBLING

After a short illness the death occurred Saturday afternoon of Arthur Floyd, infant on of Mr. and Mrs. James Gambling, 152 Maple street. The child, who was in his ninth month, had been ailing from a summer illness. The funeral took place this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock with Rev. Walter Bagnall of St. John's Anglican church officiating. Interment was made in Preston cemetery.
