    Death of Robert Barnett

    One of Oldest Residents of the Village Passes in His 89th Year - Another of Ayr's older residents, passed away on Saturday in the person of Robert Barnett, aged 88 years. His birthday fell on May 7. Mr. Barnett had been in failing health for some time, but his sudden death came unexpectedly. He was born in Dereham township, Oxford county, and came to Ayr from Innerkip 39 years ago. Mr. Barnett worked on the C.P.R. section here for many years and also with J. W. Hunt, coal merchant. During the first world war, he was employed in the Paris munition factory, and for a period of time worked in the factory of the John Watson Mfg. Co. Since 1933 he had lived retired. The late Mr. Barnett was much esteemed by many friends here and was regarded as a good citizen. He was a member of the former Methodist Church. His wife, whose maiden name was Eliza Townley, predeceased him 14 years ago, and he is survived by two children, Miss Mabel and Percy, both of Ayr. -

    The Funeral

    The funeral service was held at his late residence on Hall Street Monday afternoon, with Rev. J. W. Currie officiating. The pallbearers were:-William Barnett, Preston; John Potter, Plattsville; Norman Hamilton, Galt; Robert Dyer, Paris; Ernest Dyer, Paris and Edward Isaac of, Brantford. Interment was in the Ayr Cemetery.

    Death of Mabel Barnett

    A resident of Ayr nearly all of her life, Miss Mabel Barnett, 64, passed away at K-W Hospital on Saturday. She had been in poor health for some time and had been hospitalized on several occasions. She was born in Innerkip, the daughter of the late Robert Barnett and Eliza Townley, and came here as a child. Prior to her illness she had been engaged as an industrial worker. The late Miss Barnett was a member of Knox United Church. She was the last surviving member of her family. A brother, Percy, passed away two years ago.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service was held at the Ball Funeral Home on Monday, conducted by Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan. Internment, was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: J. Howard Reid, Wm. G. Edgar, John Ennis, Norman H. Bennett, Wallace Dance and Anderson Marshall.

    Percy Barnett Passes

    The death occurred in Hamilton General Hospital early this (Wednesday) morning of Percy Barnett aged 58 years. He had undergone major surgery seven weeks ago and later developed complications. Born in Innerkip, he was the son of the late Robert Barnett and Eliza Jane Townley. He came to Ayr with the family 57 years ago where he had resided since. Mr. Barnett was an industrial worker, and latterly had been employed on the village street department. His kindly disposition and even temper won him many friends who will regret his passing. He was a member of the former Methodist Church here and following union, of Knox United Church. In his youth he was a member of the Tuxis Boys, a Methodist Church group. He is survived by a sister Mabel.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service will be held or Saturday at 2.30 p.m., at the Funeral Parlor. Conducted by Rev W. J. V. Buchanan. Interment will be made in Ayr Cemetery.
