Shantz, Saloma, daughter of Jacob B. and Saloma [should read Magdalena] Schmidt, was born in Waterloo, Ont., June 23, 1882; died at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Ont., Aug. 2, 1972; aged 90 y. 1 m. 10 d. On May 17, 1905, she was married to David Shantz, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons (Lorne and Stanley), one daughter (Eileen--Mrs. Gordon Burkhardt), 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. One son (Walter) preceded her in death. She was a member of the Shantz Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held Aug. 6, in charge of J. Lester Kehl and Leslie H. Witmer; interment in Shantz Cemetery.

Shantz, Lorne - On Wednesday, Aug 7, 1991 as the result of an accident. Lorne Shantz of Baden. He was formerly of RR 2 Baden, where he had farmed prior to moving to Baden. Lorne was born in Wilmot Township, 85 years ago, a son of the late David Shantz and the former Saloma Schmitt. He was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church. Lorne had served the church and the community in various ways, including; director of Mennonite Aid Union, Federation of Agriculture, Vesper Springs Manor and the Baden Chamber of Commerce. He had also been a Wilmot Township school board trustee and president of the Baden Seniors. Beloved husband of the former Ada Wismer, whom he married September 22, 1931; dear father of Ralph and his wife Dorothy of RR 2 Baden, Marilyn and her husband Laurence Martin of Scottsdale, PA, Clare and his wife Marlene of St. Agatha, Harold and his wife Judy of Milverton, and Doreen of Windsor. Sadly missed by 10 grandchildren; one brother, Stanley of RR 2 Baden; one sister Ilene Burkhardt of Kitchener; three sisters-in-law, Lydia Shantz of Baden, Elmina Wismer of New Hamburg, Maude Wismer of Kitchener. Lorne was predeceased by one brother, Walter; one sister-in-law Doris Shantz and one brother-in-law, Gordon Burkhardt. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 7 p.m. today (Friday) and until Sunday at noon when transfer will be made to Shantz Mennonite Church for the service at 3 p.m., with Pastor Doris Gascho and Pastor Jim Loepp Thiessen officiating. Baden man dies in crash

BADEN (Staff)- A Baden man is dead and his wife in stable condition after a car-pickup truck accident on Highway 7 Wednesday afternoon.

Lorne Shantz, 85, died at the scene of the crash, police said.

His wife, Ada, 82, who was a passenger in his car is in stable condition at K-W Hospital.

Cambridge OPP said Shantz was southbound on Wilmot Township Road 16 and he had stopped for the stop sign at Highway 7.

He then proceeded on to the highway into the path of a westbound pickup truck driven by Charles Miles, 36, of Tavistock. Miles received minor injuries. Highway 7 was closed for 2 ½ hours.

Shantz was the father of two girls and three boys, including Ralph Shantz, the former mayor of Wilmot Township, said Wilmot Coun. Harold Schmidt.

Shantz was a trustee of the Shantz Mennonite Church in Baden, a former school trustee and one-time director of the Baden and District Chamber of Commerce, Schmidt said.

Shantz.--Walter, son of David and Saloma Schantz, was born in Wilmot Township, Ontario, May 20, 1909; passed away Sept. 14, 1946; aged 37 y. 3 m. 25 d. On Nov. 7, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lydia Zehr, who survives. Also surviving are his parents, one daughter (Patricia), one son (David), 2 brothers (Lorne and Stanley, both of Baden, Ont.), and one sister (Ilene--Mrs. Gordon Burkhardt, Kitchener, Ont.). In his youth he united with the Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden, of which he remained a member until death. Funeral services were held at the home and at the church, in charge of L. H. Witmer and M. H. Roth. Interment as made in the adjoining cemetery.

STANLEY SHANTZ 1920 - 2009 Went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in his 89th year. Loving husband of Eral (nee Cressman). Devoted father of Jeanne Leis, Lois Broda (Tom), Ross Shantz (Jean) and Larry Shantz (Cindy). Step-father to Paul Brubacher (Marilyn), Elizabeth Setzkorn (Claude) and Margaret Griffin (Dan). Stanley had nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer Shahi (Arsalan) and their children Dustin and Cameron, Jody Broda (Dana Fewkes), Tim Broda (Amy) and their children Kaylynn and Natalie, Brent Shantz and his son Darien, Laura Shantz, Kristie Fontaine (Herb), Jason Shantz (Kayla) and their children Alexis and Zoey, Amber Shantz and Carlie Shantz; as well as nine step-grandchildren, Jonathan, Danielle, Charlotte (Travis), Rebecca, Matthew, Andrew, Sonya, Loni and Bronwyn. Stanley was Canadian grandpa to Rahim and Narges Atabakhsh and their daughter Maral, and Nader and Pegah Fathi and their children Kiara and Kasra. Survived by his sister, Ilene Burkhardt; sisters-in-law, Alice Wideman, Mabel Stott (George), Margaret Dettweiler (Harold), Florence Karcher (Don) and Florence Krieder (Roy). Predeceased by his first wife, Doris (nee Hachborn) in 1991; his son-in-law, Ralph Leis in 1998; his parents, David Shantz and Salome (nee Schmitt); brothers, Lorne Shantz (Ada) and Walter Shantz (Lydia); brother-in-law, Gordon Burkhardt and two step-children, James and Charlotte in infancy. Visitation was held at Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Dr., Cambridge on Sunday, January 4 from 2-4 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, January 5 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, 1310 King St., St. Jacobs on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 11 a.m., the Revs. Mark Diller Harder and Claire Osinkosky officiating. Reception will follow the service in the Church Hall. Interment in Shantz Mennonite Cemetery.
