ARNDT, Clarence - Passed away peacefully at Saint Luke's Place, Cambridge (Hespeler) on Monday, July 17, 2006, at the age of 88 years. Clarence, a son of the late Alvin and Lillian May (Dahmer) was born in 1917 in Kitchener and, in childhood, moved with his family to Glen Christie. He grew up with two brothers, Orval and Bob and sisters Myrtle (Owens, Koenig), Helen (Hagarty), Audrey (Beaver), Reta (Durnford) and Joyce (Sootheran). He married Lorraine Cutting in 1940. She predeceased him in 1986. They had three children, John (Joyce) of Kitchener, Don (Judy) of Mississauga, and Janine Shantz (Malcolm) of London. Clarence's family includes seven grandchildren, James, Laurel, Bryce, Trevor, Julia, Jennifer, and Andrew and seven great-grandchildren. For the past number of years, he has enjoyed the companionship of Grace Cutting while living at St. Luke's Place. When Hespeler United Church wanted to rebuild, Clarence was on the Building Committee of what would become Saint Luke's United Church. This committee had the foresight to erect a fully accessible church and attained enough property for the eventual development of St. Luke's Place. He was also a Sunday School teacher, serving as the superintendent for a period of time, and was an elder at Saint Luke's Church for many years. Clarence served in the RCAF during the War stationed at Camp Borden. Afterwards, he returned to Dominion Woollens and Worsteds, becoming a foreman of the finishing room, and eventually superintendent of Silknit. For a number of years, Clarence was elected to the Hespeler School Board. He was a longtime, active member of the Hespeler Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 272 and participated for many years in its Horseshoe League. He was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. In 2005, he bowled his last game after fifty-five plus years on various bowling teams. He played an excellent, serious game of golf and belonged to several local clubs. Euchre and cribbage were his favorite card games. Always a competitor, he showed no mercy to opponents in any of these activities. In the summer, Clarence's garden on Maple Street was a beautiful place. He tended his roses and vegetables with great care, and the Arndt verandah[sic] was often a meeting place for many families and friends. Clarence will be resting at the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge, where his family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday) with a Legion service to be held on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Saint Luke's United Church. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to Saint Luke's United Church and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Clarence married Lorraine E. Cutting 1940. Lorraine (daughter of James Robert Cutting and Hilda Sauder) was born 1920; died 1986; was buried , New Hope Cemetery, Hespeler (Cambridge), Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet]
