BAUMAN. - Enoch S. Bauman, eldest son of Martin H. and Rebecca (Shantz) Bauman, was born July 18, 1860; died Jan. 16, 1918; aged 57y. 5m. 29d. In 1883 he was married to Veronica Martin, which union was blessed with 11 sons and 2 daughters, of whom 3 sons have preceded him. For several months he had been failing in health, and on Nov. 21 an operation was attempted but not performed, because the number of cancers they found at once showed that it would be of no avail. From that time on he gradually failed until the end. He took it all very patiently, was completely resigned to the will of the Lord, and looked forward with joy to the glad reunion with the many loved ones gone before. Nearly 24 years ago he was ordained to the ministry, and filled his office faithfully, preaching the Word with great earnestness and power. He occupied a place that will be hard to fill, and a sorrowing congregation craves the prayers of the Church at large. A sorrowing companion, 8 sons, 2 daughters, step-mother, 5 brothers, 1 sister, with a large number of relatives and friends remain to mourn his departure. Funeral Jan. 19, 1918, conducted at the house and grave by Abram Gingerich, and at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church by Oscar Snider and Jonas Snider. Menno M. Brubacher

BAUMAN. - Silas Bauman was born in Waterloo Twp., Waterloo, Co., Ont., Aug. 27, 1861; died Jan. 21, 1913; aged 51y. 4m. 25d. He was married to Lydia Ann Groff in 1886. To this union were born 9 sons and 4 daughters. Two of the oldest sons preceded him to the world beyond. He leaves a sorrowing widow, 11 children all at home, an aged father, 6 brothers, 1 sister, and a large community of neighbors and friends. He was converted in his early years and joined the Mennonite Church and remained a faithful member. He was ordained to the office of deacon 16 years ago and performed his duties faithfully. He was ailing for a few months and by examination of the doctors it was found that a growth in the stomach was the cause. The doctor told him his case was serious. He was consecrated to the Lord and set his possessions in order and waited patiently for the end. He was in sound mind within three hours of death. He chose his text, I Pet. 1. He also appointed A.B. Gingerich to preach in German and O.D. Snider in English. Funeral Jan. 24 was largely attended and long to be remembered. Buried in the cemetery adjoining his home. The beyond was more precious to him as he drew nigh. He expressed himself, "Death shall not destroy my comfort, Christ shall guide me through the gloom."

BAUMAN - Ira S. Bauman was born July 14, 1865; died Oct. 14, 1935; aged 70 y. 3 m. he accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his twentieth year and was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church until his death. On Feb. 9, 1890, he was united in marriage to Matilda Groff who survives him, with 7 children: Martha (Mrs. Albert Habermehl) of Conestoga; Emma of West Liberty, Ohio; Leander of Kitchener, Ont.; Melvin of Windsor, Ont.; Fannie, Ilde, and Roy at home. One infant son predeceased him. A life of true devotion to God and self-denying service to his fellowmen has been brought to a close, but we are comforted in that we know, that which was sown in corruption shall be raised in incorruption, and that which was sown in weakness shall be raised in power. "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection, on such the second death hath no power but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him forever." The funeral services were in charge of Bro. J. B. Martin, assisted by Noah Hunsberger, C. F. Derstine, and Jonas Snider. Texts, Rev. 22: 4 and John 13: 36. The body was laid to rest in Waterloo Mennonite Cemetery.

BAUMAN. - Osaias Bauman was born Dec. 4, 1883; died at his home in Elmira, Ont., March 17, 1941; aged 57 y. 3 m. 13 d. Feb. 22, 1910 he was married to Angeline Lichty. This union was blessed with one son, who died in infancy. His wife also predeceased him fourteen years ago. June 6, 1933, he was married to Emma Wideman, who survives him, also 8 sons (Lester, Enoch and Abraham of Breslau; Ira and Clarence of New Jerusalem; Daniel of Elmira; Clayton of West Montrose; Nelson of Waterloo), and 1 sister (Mrs. George Musselman of Floradale). Bro. Bauman was not in the best of health, but did not think it serious until on March 6 he suddenly suffered a stroke, from which he failed to rally and passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17. He joined the Mennonite Church in his younger years and remained faithful to the end. Funeral was held March 19 from his home to the Church at Elmira. Bro. O. D. Snider was in charge of the service. Burial in Three Bridge Cemetery, near St. Jacobs, Ont.

ONIES BAUMAN

Mr. Onies Bauman, 57, passed away at his home, 20 Mill Street, Elmira, early Monday morning, March 16, after suffering a stroke on March 6. He was born in Woolwich township and had farmed in the Jerusalem and Peel sections for approximately 19 years. He has been a resident of Elmira for the past nine years.

Surviving are his beloved wife, one son, Lester, seven brothers, Enoch and Abraham of Breslau, ha and. Clarence of Jerusalem, Dan of near Elmira, Clayton of West Montrose and Nelson of Waterloo, and one sister, Mrs. Melinda Musselman of near Elmira.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p. m. with private service at his late residence, to Elmira Mennonite church for public service. Burial was made in Conestogo (Three Bridges) Mennonite cemetery,

Musselman.-Malinda, daughter of the late Enoch and Veronica (Martin) Bauman, was born near Elmira, Ont., March 17, 1885; passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Angus B. Martin, near Elmira, on March 20, 1944; aged 59 y. 3 d. In the year 1919, she was married to George L. Musselman who predeceased her 12 years ago. Surviving are 2 sons* (Abner and George of near Elmira), 2 daughters (Saloma, wife of Angus B. Martin, Elmira; Edna, wife of Edward Francis, Waterloo), 9 grand-children, and 7 brothers (Enoch, Ira, Dan, and Clarence of Elmira; Abram, Breslau; Clayton, West Montrose and Nelson, Kitchener). Sister Musselman had been ailing for almost 2 years and bore her sufferings with Christan patience. She had a true Christian character. Her cheerful disposition and acts of kindness won for her many friends. She united with this Mennonite Church in her youth and always took a keen interest in the various activities and welfare of the Church as long as she was able. She loved her Lord much and trusted in Him. And with her confidence in Him who had redeemed her, she passed peacefully away. Funeral services were held at the Elmira Mennonite Church by Bros. Reuben Dettwiler and O. D. Snider. Interment in Martin's cemetery. [children mentioned are step children]

IRA BAUMAN The death occurred on Tuesday, October 9, of Ira Bauman, King St., Elmira, after a short illness, at age 63. Born in Woolwich Township on January 5, 1893 son of the late Mr. Enoch Bauman, he married the former Ermina Musselman on October 29, 1919. She survives. Also, one daughter, Mildred, of Elmira. Six brothers, Enoch of Water-loo, Dan, Clayton and Clarence of Elmira, Abram of Breslau and Nelson of Kitchener also survive. Four brothers and two sisters predeceased him. He was a member of St. Jacobs Mennonite Church. Remains rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlour until Thursday at 12 noon, thence to St. Jacobs Mennonite Church for memorial service at two o'clock. Burial was in St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery. Rev. R. S. Koch and Rev. H. S. Bauman. officiated.

Four years ago he began to suffer with catarrh of the stomach and bowels (at which time he also made his peace with God). The last two years he also suffered much of rheumatism, but was a means to prepare him more fully for his heavenly home. During his suffering he made the Bible his book of comfort and consolation. Bauman.-Isaiah G., Breslau, Ont., was born near Floradale, in Waterloo Co., Aug. 11, 1890; died at the K. and W. Hospital Feb. 19, 1939; aged 48 y. 6 m. 9 d. Death followed a few days after an operation which revealed a cancer. He accepted Christ as his Saviour in youth, joined the Mennonite Church, and remained an active member until death. He was united in marriage to Hettie Martin of Maugansville, Md., on Jan. 1, 1926. To this union were born 5 children: Doris, Mahlon, Mary, Leonard and Martha, all of whom survive. He is also survived by his widow, his mother, 6 brothers (Norman, Irvin, Silas and James of Ohio; Edmund of Markham, Ont., and Oliver of Breslau, Ont.) and 2 sisters (Louida of Toronto, and Salome of Kitchener). Funeral services were held Feb. 22 from the Dreisinger funeral parlors at Elmira, conducted by Bro. Oscar Burkholder. Public services were held at Floradale Mennonite Church. Bro. Reuben Detweiler and Bro. Oliver Snider preached. Texts, Amos 4: 12 and II Pet. 1: 11; selected by him as the basis for the sermons to be delivered at his funeral. He wished others to known in his life and in his death that in Christ is our salvation; in Him we are justified. Interment in North Woolwich Mennonite Cemetery.

Bauman.-Ada Bauman, daughter of Mrs. Silas Bauman, was born Dec. 6, 1896; died at her home near Floradale, Ont., Oct 4, 1924; aged 27 y. 9 m. 28 d. She leaves to mourn her loss, a mother, three sisters and seven brothers. She became sick June 29, 1924, and patiently endured her suffering until she quietly passed away. At the age of twelve she became a member of the Mennonite Church and served her Master till her death. The last four years she was engaged in teaching at her home school. Her heart was in her work. Though not very strong, she used her strength for the good of others. The funeral services were held Oct. 8, at the Woolwich Mennonite Church, near her home. The services were conducted by Brethren Abram Gingrich and Oliver D. Snider. The texts were Matt. 20: 15, first clause and Psalm 48: 13, 14. During the services her pupils sang the hymn, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." Her remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. "The golden gates were opened wide. A gentle voice said, 'Come,' And angels from the other side Welcomed our loved one home."

Salome Bauman: teacher and role model, was born 27 March 1909 on the family farm north of Floradale, Ontario to Silas Bauman (27 August 1861-21 January 1913) and Lydia Ann Groff Bauman (27 November 1862-8 May 1949). She was the youngest in a family of 13 -- nine boys and four girls. The family was one of the few in the Floradale community that did not go with the Old Order Mennonites in the division of 1889. Silas and Lydia Ann became charter members of the Floradale Mennonite Church, and Silas was ordained as a deacon in 1896. Both Silas and Lydia Ann were regular contributors of articles to the Herald of Truth and the Gospel Herald. The early death of Salome's father from cancer in 1913 (as well as the deaths in 1907 and 1908 of the two oldest sons) meant the family was poor.

Despite her difficult early years, the family encouraged Salome to further her education, and she boarded for a time in Elmira in order to attend "Middle School." After Lydia Ann moved to Kitchener with the youngest children in the mid-1920s, Salome finished her high school at Kitchener Collegiate Institute, and graduated with the highest marks in Waterloo County. After a year of normal school she taught first grade in the public school system for 12 years....

BAUMAN, Leander Groff -- Of 37 Gatewood Rd., Kitchener, on Monday, Oct. 29, 1984 as the result of a stroke, 87 years old. Born on February 5, 1897, on a Waterloo County farm on what is now Northfield Drive, near Conestoga Mall. Son of the late Ira S. Bauman and the late Matilda (Groff) Bauman. A much loved and respected member of the community, Mr. Bauman graduated from Euler Business College. His whole business career was spent in various capacities at the Waterloo Trust and Savings Company, now Canada Trust, where he was manager of the mortgage department when he semi-retired in 1962. He fully retired in 1968 after 50 years of company service. He enjoyed golfing alley bowling and curling. A charter member of the K-W Granite Club. He chaired the Lea Bauman Senior's Bonspiel for over 20 years; active in Zion United Church, he was an elder, board member, Sunday school superintendent and represented the church at various conferences. Mr. Bauman was treasurer of the K-W Skating Club and treasurer of the former K-W Orphanage Board. His hobby was writing poetry. Mr. Bauman is survived by his wife, Bernice (nee Hunstein); a daughter, Helen (Powell) and her husband Thomas; a son, Kenneth and his wife Betty Thompson-Bauman, Grandchildren, Richard, Sandra, Susan Powell and Douglas Bauman, all of Kitchener, Mrs. Vicki Evans of Los Angeles, Calif. and a special friend to Susan, Patricia and Judy Thompson. Also survived by one brother, Melvin of London, Ont.; two sisters, Emma (Mrs. A. Erb) and Fannie Bauman, both of Cambridge. He was predeceased by a brother, Roy and sisters, Martha and Ilda. SERVED CITY, ROY BAUMAN DIES AT 75

Roy Bauman, a Waterloo alderman for 19 years, died Monday night at age 75. Bauman, of 43 Melbourne Crescent, Waterloo, died in K-W Hospital after a short illness. First elected to council in 1957, Bauman had served under five mayors and was chairman of almost every committee. Of his long career on city council, Bauman once said, "When I was younger, I really enjoyed debating. I guess you could say it was almost a hobby of mine." Bauman worked for the Economical Mutual Insurance Co., for 50 years, beginning in 1923. He retired as senior accountant in 1969. During that time he helped the country grow from a staff of 12 in one office to 475 at the head office amd 11 branches across Canada. Bauman was born on a farm on what is now Northfield Drive, Waterloo, to Ira Bauman and the former Matilda Groff. He taught adult Sunday school and was a member of Emmanuel United Church. He ran his own six-acre fruit farm from 1938 to 1964 and sold his products at the Waterloo Market. He was also secretary of the Waterloo Horticultural Society, treasurer of the Ontario Pennsylvania-German Society of Breinigsville, Pa. He married the former Catherine Devit and had two daughters. Mr. Bauman's body will be at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, after 7 p.m. today. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel United Church, Bridgeport Road West, Waterloo

Roy G. -- At the K-W Hospital in Kitchener on Monday, Jan. 4, 1982, Roy G. Bauman, aged 75 years, of 43 Melbourne Cres., Waterloo. Mr. Bauman was born in Waterloo and was a son of the late Ira Bauman and the former Matilda Groff. He was employed as an accountant at Economical Mutual Insurance Company, Kitchener for 50 years, until his retirement eight years ago; he was a member of Emmanuel United Church, Waterloo; a teacher of the adult Sunday School class and a representative to Waterloo Presbytery; he served on the Waterloo Council for a total of 19 years, from 1958 to 1976; was a member of the Pennsylvania-German Society of Breinigsville, Pa. and treasurer of the Ontario Pennsylvania German Folklore Society and secretary of the Waterloo Horticultural Society. Survived by his wife the former Catherine Devitt; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Art Reimer) of Shelburne, Ont. and Mrs. Mary-Lynn Dyck of Kitchener; brother of Leander (Lea) of Kitchener, Melvin of London, Ont., Mrs. Emma Erb and Fannie Bauman, both of Cambridge. Also survived by one granddaughter, Laurie. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Henry Dyck and his granddaughter Shelley Dyck and two sisters, Martha and Ilda. Mr. Bauman's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, after 7 p.m. this evening. Martin M. Bauman, of Wallenstein, 63, died suddenly Wednesday of last week at the K-W Hospital. He suffered a stroke the previous night. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bauman and was born in Woolwich Township March 30, 1897. In 1920 he married Rebecca Martin, who survives. Mr. Bauman was a member of Hawkesville Gospel Hall. Also surviving are three sons, Addison and James of Wallenstein, and Adin of Medicine Hat, Alt.; two daughters, Mrs. Reinheart (Alma) Frede of Wallenstein and Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Martin of Heidelberg, four brothers, Urias of Hawkesville, Henry of Elmira, Noah of Wallenstein and David of RR 1 Waterloo, two sisters, Mrs. Israel Hoffman of RR 1, Waterloo and Mrs. David Hoffman of Heidelberg and 18 grandchildren. Four sisters and two brothers predeceased him. The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, until 5 p.m. on Friday when removal was made to the Bauman home for the funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday. A private service was held at the home. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Shantz. - Vietta Shantz, oldest daughter of Ivan and Irene Shantz was born Mar. 13, 1921; died Jan. 30, 1928, after suffering intensely of meningitis for two weeks; aged 6 y. 10 m. 17 d. She leaves behind to mourn her early demise father, mother, 1 sister, one brother, and 3 grandparents, besides other relatives. Vietta will be missed in her home because of her cheerfulness and helpfulness, always showing a thoughtfulness beyond her age, especially in caring for those younger than she and in doing the little duties around the house. While she keenly is missed by her parents, yet they hope to meet her again some day in that land of blissful rest.

FEICK, Beatrice March 11, 1927 - February 27, 2012 Beatrice Habermehl Feick was born to Albert and Martha Habermehl on March 11, 1927 at St. Jacob's, Ontario. Her life's journey took her to Northern Ontario, Toronto, Elora and Cottam, Ontario, Luseland, Saskatchewan and finally to Saskatoon. In each place she made many friends and blessed many lives. She experienced numerous challenges in her life but always found a way to make the best of them and even to overcome them. Though they lost two of their own children, Beatrice and Ed were adopted as mom and dad by someone in almost every community in which they lived. Growing flowers, stitching quilts and doting on her grandchildren were her passions, and she always had time for anyone who came to visit. Beatrice died Monday, February 27 at Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of 57 years, Ed Feick, her son Dave and his wife Joanne and their children, Carissa and Eric Boschmann, Jason and Scott, her sisters: Alice Weber and friend Ray Erb, Doris and Bill Ermel, in-laws: Eileen Habermehl, Don Snider, Aileen Feick, Jim Feick and Liz Shiell, Grace and Edward Snider, many nieces and nephews and their families as well as many, many dear friends.
