LICHTY, Rev. Samuel
Rev. Samuel Lichty, 64, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of the Linwood district, died on Sunday, January 1, in Phoenix after a long illness.
Born on August 24, 1902, in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Lichty. He was an Amish Mennonite minister and also farmed and did carpentry work in the Linwood district before moving to Phoenix two years ago. He was a member of the Conservative Mennonite Church, Millbank.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Schmucker, whom he married March 29, 1925, in Ohio; six sons, Jacob , of Wellesley; Daniel and Norman, both of R.R. 1 Linwood; Amos, of R.R. 1 Millbank; Samuel, of Heidelberg; and Emanuel, of R.R. 1, Wellesley; six daughters, Mrs. Sylvester (Nancy) Sauder, of California; Mrs. Carl (Anna) Kirby, of New Brunswick; Mrs. Mahlon (Mary) Gerber, of R.R. 1, Millbank; Mrs. Orville (Catharine) Godson, of Kitchener; Rebecca, of Toronto, and Ruth, of Phoenix; one brother, Jacob, of Wellesley; four sisters, Mrs. Katie Kuepfer, of Milverton; Mrs. Noah (Nancy) Gascho, of Aylmer; Mrs. Noah (Lydia) Roes, of R.R. 1, Milverton, and Mrs. Nicholas (Mary) Jantzi, of R.R. 1, Wellesley; 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one son, three brothers and two sisters.
The body will arrive from Phoenix late Thursday and will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lichty, of R.R. 1, Linwood, afternoon on Friday. A family service will be conducted at the home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at the Conservative Mennonite Church, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Valentine Nafziger and Rev. Kenneth Brenneman will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

She was born 75 years ago in Uniontown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Samuel Z. and Mary (Schmucker) Lichty. Mary was a member of Milverton Conservative Mennonite Church, Milverton. Beloved wife of Mahlon Gerber who she married 56 years ago on May 6, 1953. Loving mother of Sharon (Arnold) Yoder of Gadshill, Marlene (Paul) Strubhar of Kenabeek, Lynn (John) Schapansky of McBride, B.C., Jean (Reuben) Derstine of East Berlin, Pa., Terry (Karen) Gerber of Sunbury, Pa., Lucy (DeWayne) Schrock of Odon, Ind., Teresa (Lamar) Haldeman of Danville, Pa., Stewart Gerber of Brantford. Sadly missed by 40 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Lovingly remembered by sisters, Nancy Roth of Ft. LICHTY, Wayne Clare -- Of Millbank, passed away suddenly, Monday morning, as the result of a car accident on County Road 11, Wellesley Township. He was born in Mornington Township 20 years ago, the son of Amos and Dorothy Lichty of Millbank. He was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church; sang in the men's chorus and taught Sunday school. Was employed with Home Hardware Ltd., in St. Jacobs, Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Fern and Marcia, both of Millbank, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lichty, of Wellesley and maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Chris J. Gerber of Millbank. Friends may call at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, Wellesley. The family will receive friends this evening from 7-9 and Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9. At noon Thursday, May 19, the remains will be removed to Maple View Mennonite Church for the service at 2: 30. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Alvin Leis and Rev. Jacob Roes officiating.

Donna Elaine, 3 ½ and her 2 ½ -year- old sister Darlene Ann, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lichty of RR 1, Linwood, will be buried in the cemetery at the Nafziger Amish Mennonite Church at Poole which they attended.
The bodies are at the home of the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Kuepfer of Millbank, where a family service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Nafziger Church by Bishop Mose Nafziger.
The girls were natives of Wellesley Township.
