Mr. Matthews was born in Peel Township and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Matthews. He farmed in Peel Township until 1936 when he moved to Elmira. He was a member of Wesley United Church, Elmira. and the Conestoga Masonic Lodge. Drayton.

Surviving are his wife, the former Muriel Malloy. whom he married in 1910 at Hamilton. three nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by one brother Norman.

The body was at the Dreisinger Funereal Parlor. Elmira. where ';i'e service was held in the chapel Sunday at 2: 30 p.m Rev.. M.E. Reuber and Rev. Howard Brox officiated. Burial was in Elmira cemetery.
