    Russell Thomas of 400 Wellington St., N., Kitchener, died on Thursday at his home at the age of 78.

    Mr. Thomas was born Nov. 3, 1891, at Bloomingdale. He was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area.

    He was employed with Hogg Fuel and Supply Co. Ltd, for 35 years prior to his retirement, in 1958. He was a member of First Mennonite Church and served overseas in the First World War with the Canadian 133rd Infantry Battalion and attained the rank of sergeant.

    He was predeceased by his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Thomas, and his wife, the former Clara Shantz; two sons, Edward and William and one daughter, Clara, three brothers, Harold, Warren and Arthur and one sister, Mrs. Albert (Jessie) Moser.

    Surviving are five sons, Walter, Kenneth and Grant, all of Kitchener and Milton and Russell, both of Ayr; three daughters, Mrs. John (Lillian) Neilly of Kitchener, Mrs. Edward (Barbara) Giilck of Conestogo and Mrs. Harry (Mary Lou) Falkenstern of Waterloo; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Jane) Gies of New Dundee and Mrs. Agnes Livoch of Detroit, 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    WALTER A. THOMAS 1928 - 2009 Walter passed away, peacefully, at his home, on Sunday, September 27, 2009, in his 82nd year. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (nee Weaver) on June 16, 1989; his parents, Russell and Clara (Shantz) Thomas; brothers, Milton and Russell and two infant brothers, Edward and William; infant sister, Clara; brother-in-law, John Neilly; and sister-in-law, Elspeth (nee Gladstone). Survived by his children, David (Gerri), Heather (Terry), and Gary; grandson, Shawn (Jackie); and great-grandchildren, Maddison and Wesley. Also survived by brothers, Ken (Mary), Grant (Laura) and sisters, Lillian, Barbara (Eddie), and Marylou (Harry). Walter was a longtime service employee of J.M. Schneider. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Walter during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, October 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 9:30 a.m., followed by interment at Memory Gardens, Breslau.     The death occurred peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Willett Hospital, Paris on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 of Russell Howard Thomas of Ayr. He was in his 74th year.

    He was born in Kitchener and was son of the late Clara Mabel Shantz and Russell Arthur Thomas.

    Mr. Thomas resided with his brother Milton and his family on Piper Street, Ayr for the past 53 years. He was a retired employee of Uniroyal.

    He was a special uncle to Bonnie and George Bell of Woodstock, Bob at home, Paul of Cambridge, Gail and Frans Michiels, Diana and Larry Struthers, Ted and Cathy, all of Ayr; great uncle of Terri, Mark, Renee, Jo-Anne, Rebecca, David, Jordan, Ruth, Ben, Jennifer, Susie, Jonathan, Kristin, Karly and great-great uncle of 9; dear brother of Walter, Ken and Mary, Lil Neilly, Mary Lou and Harry Falkenstern, all of Kitchener, Barb and Ed Giilck of Cologne and Grant of BC.

    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Elspeth Thomas.

    Cremation has taken place.

    A private family memorial service was held at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home.

    GIILCK, Barbara (Thomas) 1938-2021

    Passed away peacefully at Pine Meadow Nursing Home, Northbrook in the early morning of Friday, January 22, 2021 at the age of 82. Barb is now in eternal rest and is reunited with her devoted husband Edward of 60 years.

    Survived by her brother Grant Thomas. Also survived by her brother-in-law Harry and sister-in-law Mary Thomas. Barbara is also be remembered by many nieces, nephews and the Giilck family. Predeceased by her parents Russell and Clara Thomas (nee Shantz) her brothers Edward (in infancy), Milton, Walter, Russell, Kenneth, Billy (in infancy) her sisters Mary Lou Falkenstern, Lillian (John) Neilly and Clara (in infancy).

    Visitation will be held at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 10:00 - 11:00 am with Covid-19 restrictions in place (please call to make a visitation appointment) followed by a private family service in the Chapel. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.
