Kitchener man identified as victim of single-vehicle crash near Breslau

Investigators have identified him as David Frank Douglas Watters, 47

WELLINGTON COUNTY - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police have identified the driver found dead inside his truck in a wooded area between Breslau and Guelph on Monday.

David Frank Douglas Watters, 47, of Kitchener was discovered by a person out for a walk at around 1 p.m. Monday.

The black Ford pickup truck had left the road where Woolwich Guelph Townline and Lerch Road meet at a hairpin curve; the vehicle crashed into a wooded area and ended up on its side lodged in the trees.

OPP spokesperson Const. Joshua Cunningham said there are currently two ongoing investigations into the collision. The first is the crash reconstruction by members of the OPP, and the second is a coroner's investigation into the cause of death.

"They go hand-in-hand," he told The Record Tuesday morning. Cunningham isn't sure of the status of either investigation.

While it's unclear exactly how long the truck and driver were in the woods, it doesn't appear they were there long enough for the elements or animals to influence the scene, Cunningham said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.
