Lehmon Shirk "(Nephew to Peter Shirk of Bridgeport, Ontario) son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Good) Shirk, was born in Canarvon Township, Lancaster County, December 20th, 1860. On November 8th, 1877, he came to Canada and made his home with Mr. Peter Shirk where he served his apprenticeship as a miller. After having served his apprenticeship he remained in the services of Mr. Shirk until November, 1890, when he received the appointment of head miller of the German Mills by the proprietors, William Snider & Co., in whose employment he has been up to the present. On June 10th, 1885, he was married to Magdalena, Daughter of Aaron and Mary (Snider) Kraft. To them are born two children"

LEARN. Mrs. Laura S. - On Thursday, Jan. 28, 1982,. at her, residence, Heritage House, St. Jacobs, Laura Learn, aged 95 years.

She was born in Bridgeport and was first president of the Waterloo branch of the VON. Mrs. Learn. was a member of First United Church, Waterloo and the United Church Women.

She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lehman Shirk, wife of the late Arthur Learn: mother of Robert and Mary (Mrs. James Dettweiler), both of Waterloo. Also survived by three grandchildren. Penny, Patricia and Peter and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased, by one sister.

A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Learn in the chapel of First United Church, Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. R.H. McColl officiating. Interment Waterloo Mount Hope cemetery.

MARY J. DETWEILER 1917 - 2009 Passed away on Tuesday, January 6 in Toronto. Mary was a member of the First United Church in Waterloo. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Learn and the beloved wife of the late James R. Detweiler who preceded her in 1997. She was also predeceased by her brother, J. Robert Learn. She is lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends are invited to share their memories of Mary with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Friday, January 9, from 2 to 2: 45 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
